Wow, such a great movie, seriously.

This movie reminds me that I should really be grateful to have such great friends.

We're not like the characters in the movie, but we're "long and close" companions.

I feel like this movie helped me understand my parents better too, and the time they lived in. They didn't grow up in Busan, but it seems like the culture of Korea was so different, and it helped me to see the way they see things today from their time.

i mostly watch US movies since i was born here, but i do watch Korean films/dramas sometimes.

Friend is like the best mafia film i've ever seen. the story of friendship and betrayal was nicely portrayed.

the scene in 1:10 is the most touching moment in the entire film in my opinion.

I watched this like 10 times before I even had a copy with subtitles.

Just on the betrayal tip. I don't think the film showed betrayal. In the end when Dong Su got murdered the whole ordeal stemmed from misunderstanding. Firstly Junsuk never ordered Dong Su to be murdered initially it was his right hand man. And when the first attempt failed Dong Su went for revenge. Dong Su was give a chance by Junsuk however didn't take it.

no wait, i think it was Junsuk who advised Dong Su to leave for Hawaii, which Dong Su disagreed. but after walking out of the club, changed his mind but it was too late.

@gojustyle Actually, DongSu's right hand man killed him thinking that DongSu was accepting the Junsuk's offer and leaving them behind since he requested to go to Airport to give a farewell to another friend who was going abroad for schooling.

@gojustyle Junsuk took the charge of DongSu's murder because as he said, "True gangster shouldn't lose face" when asked by another friend in the jail why he took the blame which he didn't do. Meaning JunSuk took the blame for the murder because he wanted to save JunSuk's face and legacy by letting the whole world know that he wasn't killed by his own man but rather by his rivals. Because getting killed by one of your own man is real lower form of ending a gangster life.

I read an article that Junsuk's real character was released from jail december last year (for murdering his friend, Dong-Su) and married to longtime girlfriend(real character in the movie) in April this year. About 500 gangsters showed up at his wedding & 100 policemen were monitored the wedding. I know the movie is based on true story but I did not think the girlfriend was real character.

oh wow, you missed the best part. The guy you saw in jail Jin sook didn't want to hurt is friend in the rival gang, so he tells him to go to hawaii until things cool down, but when he's telling him this the rival gang had a plan to kill him, but his friends tells them no to do it, so he instead gets killed for treason.

and since Jin sook was there when he was killed he was blamed for it and ended up going to jail, and out of respect he told the court that he was the one who killed him so it doesn't make the other guy look bad in front of his gangster friends. Get it?
