What do I do to build up to that because I cant even to that? I am trying to clime up a wall from a cat leap but can't I have whacked all of the videos on how to but now I need the conditioning.
I was just wondering what muscle-ups are and found this video. It answered my question and caused me to listen to blue scholars for the 10th time today. That is in no way a bad thing
Hey I was wondering and I really really want to know this. do you guys that make these videos and workouts ever lift weights? Like do you do only bodyweight workouts only? Because I have people that tell me that I can't get strong off of only doing bodyweight workouts but I have no way to pay for monthly gym or buy dumbbells at this time. Please repsond!!
@FRJae you can get very strong in your upper body without weights doing the stuff on my channel. getting strong legs without weights is quite a bit harder, but still possible if you do it right. in my opinion, parkour people should do 4 exercises with weights. deadlift, squat, pull up, and dip. mix that with the right bodyweight exercises and parkour and you have a very complete program there.
@DemonDrills Thank you (: but I have one more question is there any other way to do deadlifts without a bar and weights? Do you have a video of a tutorial for it? But thank you it was very helpful!!
@FRJae look at olypmic ring gymnasts. They are phononomly strong, and are also amazing at allot of parkour stuff, such as the vaults flips- and muscle ups- you wont see a better muscle up than one done by a profesional gymnast. They use no weights. It's all done on the rings, a bar, or the floor.

@FRJae I personally never touch weights. For further reference, talk to gymnasts. They are extremely strong and coordinated people that don't touch weights
@fyb3rotik It's kind of hard to teach. You really have to watch the movement and then try it out. I've been working on it and it isn't easy, but if you try to do one arm at a time you can get up. Also try doing them by jumping and working on that strength to pull yourself over.
i have to say tou guys are frickin awesome! iv'e finally found a legit no-bullshit PARKOUR group who know so many exercises! thanks, you really help :D
Is muscle-ups, pull-ups, and kipping pull-ups the only moves you have to practice to increase your abilty to get over high walls and stuff. Or are there any more?
Do have any tips on the transitioning from the pull up to the dip? I can do both as separate exercises, but I have a fair amount of difficulty transitioning.
@jrk987 In parkour you never isolate the upper body, you use everything you have to get up as quickly as possible. This is why you should practice kipping in addition to dead hang pull ups/muscle ups.
i sort of do a muscle up, but when i do them i go up one elbow at a time and i have to rest my chest on the bar so that i can adjust my wrists. what should i do to perfect them?
I can do 25 kipping pull ups in a row and 15 dips, and I still can't do a muscleup. Its that transitioning from a pullup to a dip that I can't seem to manage. Oh well, I guess I'll jus keep workin on my pullups
@gmerit1 Should give a look at russian dips. The kind where you go all the way down, rock back until forearm is nearly horizontal, and reverse to get back up.
Try doing three sets of each to failure then maybe do some tuck jumps and split squats. Generally it takes 2 or 3 days for recovery but your pecs, legs and lats should feel a bit achey the day after a good workout so you'll know. If you want a more muscle mass, pause in the middle of one of your last reps and hold it until you give out, it burns but that means its working haha.
I'm well into sports sceince btw, so if anyone fancies a programme then give me a shout, hope i dont sound like an ass
i personally dont think that going to failure is the best way to go. the last rep should be RIGHT before failure. going to failure just stresses the central nervous system, which increases recovery time without any more strength gain than you would have if you left out the last rep. of course no one knows for sure, and there are varying opinions. i think 3-5 reps and 3-5 sets are better than higher reps when ur going for strength more than muscle mass
That shows an insane amount of strenght. I'm pretty young, well, comaratively, so i'm not sure how that plays on my muscle build but i've been working for almost three months (And have shaped up quite nicely in the time) and can BARELY do a pull up.
yes i am having the same problem. I found that if you lay on ur back on a bench and pull a weight from behind ur head up to ur chest (like the same movement you would do on a wall but on ur back) you can build up your strength. If available there are pull down machines that work the same muscles.
@wolfzz5 The most important element of the muscle-up is to make SURE you get that forward swinging momentum first then as you're swinging back this is when you pull and kick up simultaneously. If you get that forward swinging first this will make it soooo much easier. Good luck!
@tintun2 Uh, yeah, you probably weigh about 115 too. Update, i can now do about 10 pull ups, on a good day, and muscle-ups aren't much different. It's all a relative thing, tintun2. I know guys who can do pull ups all day, but weigh very little. I also know guys who are huge and can lift a LOT of weight, but can't do pull ups to save their lives. It's all just a matter of weight training.
Also, making fun of people on the internet, eh? It seems rather obvious that you're only 14...
it is not the right way to train every day. the muscles you train need time to regenerate. muscles grow not during the training, the grow in the time between the trainings. and before you try to do a muscle up you should have enogh strenght built with pull ups and dips
Strength depends not only on muscular growth, but also strengthening of neurological pathways. This is why there are some people who aren't very big but are incredibly strong (ex. Ivan Chakarov, olympian, 5'11" 200lbs. could easily squat over 3x bodyweight).
Training every day strengthens these pathways. One must build up work capacity over time, but eventually daily or near-daily training is essential for progress.
All elite (national or olympic level) athletes train every day.
chips ups won't help you with parkour or muscle ups, if you want to work on those do pull ups, it works the necessary muscles, keep up the training good luck
start with pull ups and dips. when you can do about 15 of each, you should have the necessary strength to do a muscle up; then you just need to develop some technique.
How long should i do dips and pull ups. I got an iron gym back at christmas so i been doing around 30-50 pull ups and 30-60 dips a week for bout a month.
you should aim for 10-15 consecutive dips (full ROM) and pull ups (pulling the chest all the way to the bar). if you have those numbers, its time to start working on getting the muscle up.
