The most telling video of this crash was from Franchitti's on-board camera. As Franchitti passes the accident, his camera, shooting what's happening behind Franchitti's car, catches Wheldon going up & into the fence. I don't know if you can edit this video to include it after the video's been posted, but take a look at that footage.

It angers me how Indycar's bosses would sanction a race on a track like this with so many competitors. 34 weren't there? This track's about half the size of Indianapolis, and it only has 33 cars on it! Silly, I hope the numbers are reduced accordingly as a result of this accident.

@richard20062006 there was 34 when the race started, 19 were left after the wreck that could still drive.....

@richard20062006 it's not the amount of cars, it's the speed the're driving... but you can't slow them down, the brakes are'nt good enough.

@vitaphone97 It's a combination of both I would imagine. The track was simply too small to field that number of cars. But yes, racing at that speed is always, always going to be dangerous. It only takes one error and, well... need we say more?
