Do NOT microwave glo-sticks! I did this with my kids, and it exploded just as we opened the door (after only 25 seconds). We had to call 9-1-1, it got in everyone's eyes, and the chemical burns skin. WEAR GOGGLES!!!

Heat speeds up the chemical reaction which produces more light.

For the opposite, you could refrigerate the glow stick and it will get dimmer. Compare the cold one, one at room temp, and the heated one.

I tried that. It ends up creating a bubble and when it bursts, it squirts the liquid all over the inside of the microwave and it stains the color of the stick.
