Nearly 1 fucking hour for this track to download so i could listen to it without stopping.Australian Telstra 3G fantastic broadband is all fucking lies.Piece of shit liars.
I was standing staring at this girl dancing on acid when I thought I know that music and fuck me it was Hawkwind. I was so mashed and up on mushrooms that I started dancing with her. You cant buy moments like that. Westbury, covered in mud and off my tit's..
@ZipButtons LMFAO... you don't say! hahahaha... I can imagine, I had a few run in's with that guy Sid Rawles... once at one of the Rainbow Fayre's near Talgerth and I wanted to park up for ten minutes while I dropped my kids off with their mother... cunt wouldn't let me in...
and at a Mind Body and Spirit in London Earl's Court, when a few of us from Worthing went into his teepee and sat in a circle and commenced to smoke several chillum's... he got very annoyed... LOL Bless him indeed...
@Ashphodelic Last time I saw Sid was about 15-20 years ago at the Greenwich Festival, sat cross-legged in his teepee being fawned on by young female accolites.
He didn't remember me from Adam. We squatted together for three years. Heh!
There is/was many threads on the Tribal Living website about his attitude and behaviour towards young women.
Sorry to be picky but this ISN"T at henge on acid at all.
This was at The Liverpool Stadium on 22 12 1972. with Dave Brock, Robert Calvert, Lemmy, Nick Turner, Dik Mik, Del Detmar and Simon King I've got the album it's off. If anyone's interested it's a compilation of live and studio tracks including the original version of Urban Guerrilla. It's called Hawklords and originally came with a poster. Gatefold sleeve on United Artists released in 1973
ur dead right..doesnt even sound like wot they would play at a henge gig,if u see wot i mean...too much studio work...sounds like the track from in search of space,or doremi-forget which
Sorry again, this compilation you speak about was published in 1976, named Roadhawks (cover by Barney Bubbles), yeas and it contained a Doremi Sticker and of course the famous Roadhawks poster
Featuring the brilliant live "Shouldn't do that" from the Roadhawks LP (remember them?) and at least one CD too, including a bonus track on Space Ritual. Actually recorded at the Liverpool Stadium (not Anfield)22 Dec 72 according to the sleevenotes and not Stonehenge. Still pretty groovy visuals though, and thanks for a splendid track!
I wasnt there, tho I tried the next year and was beatn back by the rozzers. I saw Hawkwind dozens of times in the 80s and they always started with this number. fucking brilliant start to any gig eh?
Shouldn't do that .... is off the album 'In search of space' not Space Ritual. It was recorded for a BBC Maida Vale session on 19 May 1971 for the Sounds of the Seventies show.
Hawkwinds Bassist would later go on to form Motorhead and become the legendary Lemmy Kilmister. The rest of the band fell off the face of the earth in a silver machine.
second and more importantly, i think it's awesome that there are people here who remember the same asshole(sid) from back in the day! haha...that guy must have had a huge impression. was he basically trying to get with these hippy chic's through use of religion? weird...
Wow trippy shit man....turns ya mind into a picasso painting....this was first released on Roadhawks---this is a shit kickin version of you shouldnt do that ...i only wish i had of been there to see it live
I really to agree with what your saying. LSD was and is very bad stuff to be giving to kids. I suppose it is part of life's learning curve but I really do despise a lot of the counter culture types these days. They are same dam irresponsible. My wife was exposed to acid and has never recovered, that was at the Henge and she was only 14 at the time. What gave them the right to push their shit on kids ?
Sorry to hear what happened to yer wife. Growing up, i was surrounded by these people for 20 years! I remember one year at henge, having to lie to my mum about going in to town in order to hitch hike back to london to do o level exams! Just self absorbed, selfish idiots and fucking childish. Music was great tho!
While u were droppin acid I was climbing trees & playing ska music @ the youth club! Sum parents think they love their children, I beg to differ. Thats NOT love. I've only ever ad one acid tab...it was amazing, what a trip..I never needed another one after that, why wud I? ;) xXx Hawkwind still gives me goose bumps tho!
I certinly do and I also agree that the guy was (most likely still is) an utter tosser. Playing red indian in wales. I did have a flinge with a girl from tally at a festival but they were so out of touch with reality it was unreal. Again most of them came from good middle class backgrounds and were playing at "hippy".
I stayed on a farm in wales, with hippies from Glasto'. I was 12. Sid was doing his usual preaching to little hippie chicks (without his clothes as per') And i told him he was 'full of shit' in front of the whole commune! So much for peace and love.. He dragged me out side and bashed me up. What a cunt. I'd love to catch up with him now.
@PerfectMystery .. he called himself 'sid rules' Self styled king of the hippies! Just a fat old cornish pedo' yocal looking for misguided hippy girls.
so this track was concieved 70/71 fact - this version is 72 space ritual encore with lemmy on bass see dates for tom Crimbles base below 19 May 71 - Maida Vale - You Shouldn't Do That (Turner/Brock) 5:52 - appears on Text Of Festival, Weird 8 Nik Turner (vocals, sax and flute), Dave Brock (vocals and guitar), Dik Mik (electronics), Terry Ollis (drums) with bass duties split between Thomas Crimble (1970) and Dave Anderson (1971).
in response to the comment by adventure66 heres the historical facts - learn them..."You Shouldn't Do That" is an extended piece that they had been playing live from Crimble's time in the band, and he asserts that he should have received a writer's credit for the central bass line on which this is based, a bootleg version of the session can be found on 'The Text of Festival'. later appearing in 1975/6 on the compilation album Roadhawks. ( THIS IS IT Playing here )
LSD, acid, alice d., 'cid, tabs, hits, gellies, papers, dots, L, tickets to the art show... whatever ya call the girl, she is quite the wise mistress, isn't she?
also great live version of "you shouldnt do that"... i dig, my friend, i dig.
wise AND unpredictable, may i add. god i love LSD... just kinda washing around in my head from the join show this saturday... bad night. lots of money spent needlessly, kicked out of a bar, etc. etc... but a great trip and a rewarding experience nonetheless. of course. best. drug. ever.
I have watched this a number of times and it is one of the best dipictions of 'the psychadelic experience' I have ever seen. You have managed to incorporate something organic into it, and also included just enough of the real world to make it seem real.
You really should do a long piece of work - an hour plus - would work wonders
"You Shouldn't Do That" is an extended piece that they had been playing live from Crimble's time in the band, and he asserts that he should have received a writer's credit for the central bass line on which this is based.[, a bootleg version of the session can be found on The Text of Festival. It was the encore for the Space Ritual show but omitted from that album, later appearing in 1975/6 on the compilation album Roadhawks.
This tune is from Roadhawks i so wish they make it into a CD hoping or at least i have the album which i can make to a cd, brilliant fucked up music from Hawkwind
Man i wish the trips i've done were as mental as that, I have at least at still usually see the band, even if they did look like alien amoeba's at the time.
if i remember correctly there was red stars which were ok and microdots which were seeds in plastic but the best of all were the black stars which alloud me to become truely telopathic and see the notes appear in the sky from guitars as they were played, which i thought was cool
Hey, thanks for the info, twystedprism! Almost too good to be true, this! About to get hold of an original US vinyl pressing with the poster cover intact of the Space Ritual, hopefully it's no difference in the mix!? In the same deal, I got hold of a nice UK copy of "Roadhawks" complete with poster. And me who was supposed to keep onto good ol' Crimso being the only acceptable "70'S prog" band around (well, I dug Gong's "1977 Floating Anarchy" for years also, but still...).Ta!!
Well, sorry about the "prog" rap, guess this isn't that much prog, although certainly related, what i'd like to know for now though is that, are there any videos around with The Heads from UK?? They still around??? Where to get their records???

Yeah.. Me and my sister had our first purple Omes at Stonehenge 1980. I was 12 years old. Although she,(my sis') first had acid at 9 years old, back in 1976. No thanks to our mum... who actually gave them to us! Great parenting.
Appreciate the nice words. I'm doing ok these days thanks. I don't begrudge the experience anymore but glad to have finally got away from the abusive people, including mother dearest!!!! How about you. Were u around in those days?
Actually now I'm here could someone please tell me if this is the Roadhawks album?

Yeah.. Me and my sister had our first purple Omes at Stonehenge 1980. I was 12 years old. Although she,(my sis') first had acid at 9 years old, back in 1976. No thanks to our mum... who actually gave them to us! Great parenting.
