I forgot my hearing protection one day when I went shooting, luckily the range was empty and I had an emergency pair of socks in my truck that I cut up and stuffed in my ears, worked really well too.
Helpful tips for sure. Just curious about the scope set up though, why did you go with rings that high? Do they offer an advantage for distance shooting?
The next time you forget your hearing protection, try sticking a cartridge in each ear. I'm not kidding. It looks silly, but hearing damage is permanent.
I'm sorry to critic, but first of all I find you put up a very pretentious title second of all, 100 yards? I think most people can do that with a snowball!
Thanks for the vid Bro. When I was 17 I lost my hearing for about 4 days form the blast of my 58 cal muzzel loader. It nocked me out. Not Cool! Bring your eat plugs! TSFG
i feel you bro, my ears start to ring with 1 shot out of my 20 gauge with my hornady sst sabot slugs and my rifled barrel wow there load and they kick hard. im pretty accurate with it though lol i hunt at my buddys house and he doesnt use ear plugs so they dont have any so i bring my own lol they think im a girl for useing them but its so worth be able to hear lol
If you forget hearing protection, you probably have a paper napkin from a fast food joint in your glove box. Tear off two corners, roll them up, and you have -20 dB ear plugs. Barring that, you seem to be shooting at a range. Pick up a couple of 9mm pieces of brass and stick one in each ear canal. It's probably good for 10-12 dB of noise reduction, which will probably prevent the irreparable hearing loss that you WILL GET shooting a .308 without hearing protection.
You know your rifle. When you were shooting the 460 I was thinking of the ache in the wrists rather than the ringing in the ears. You are a good rifle shot. However, I do question your technique of cocking the revolver and then setting it to a 90 degree stance while you drop to target.
I know the 308 ammo is cheaper, but why not shoot a 300 wsm? It's more ballistically correct and accurate. And it packs more of a punch. Recoil is little to none. And it holds velocity out to farther ranges than the 308. Just trying to help buddy
Hey, nice post. Just the way we learn it in the army. Shooting with no ear muffs realy sucks.
I shoot the MAG 7.62 every week without muffs and i can hear a shit the next day. :p
Just 1 question, why shooting with a scoop at 100y? Isent that WAY to close? We start shooting without scoop from 200y with the FNC and from 350 with the MAG. Scoop we use at 500y.
So , Ive just read all 26 pages of comments to this vid , and cant find your reply to any of the guys mentioning you pointing your loaded pistol away from the butts , into a carpark with people walking around . funny that!!
At around the 7:30 mark , is that someone walking around by the car in the back ground? you know , the car behind the firing point , where you have a loaded pistol on the bench , pointing back away from the butts , towards the carpark?
A sane person would ask to buy some ear plugs off of someone. Every shooter carries extra ear plugs. A lot of people use ear plugs inside their shooting muffs. Ive never heard of a range that didn't sell ear plugs.
if the high rings are to clear the barrel, then i see about an inch of space between the scope and the barrel. So you can lower your scope 3/4in. and still have plenty of clearance above the barrel. This would also give you a tighter cheekweld, creating a larger contact point which in turn helps stabilize the gun. It also allows the gun to be transitioned quicker since it puts the gun and you closer and tighter together like one large extremity.
I was always taught that you should have more dry fires with you gun than actual shots. It makes sense. And a good trick to help your trigger pull is to balance a quarter on the end of your barrel when dry firing. If it stays on your doing good.. If you can do it with a dime, even better..
@everyone who is talking about scope rings.. The whole idea in scope rings so far as height is to aquire a sight picture without pushing your cheek into your butt stock throwing your zero out the window.. So all the dumb asses on here that are talking about how it is dramatic, go learn something. I am a marine and trust me, it is a necessity to have the proper height for your individual style of shooting to make you more accurate.. not for asthetics..
@WORLOQ1 So are you saying that having too low of rings with a tight cheek weld is bad? I'm sorry but I'm not following what you are saying and I'm interested in improving my shooting. Thanks for the help.
@JUSTANOTHERDAY333333 What you use the rings for in most cases isnt to compensate for anything but aquiring a sight pic. See if you have a high stock and you dont want your cheek shoved into your stock then you go with a higher set ring. It stops you from screwing your zero due to you wont always shove your cheek into the stock the same way so you wont always be moving your zero to the exact spot where you had it, the farther out the further off..
@WORLOQ1 wat it is there alll bitching about is how the scope moves whithin the rings cause there not great qualitiy, but really, if you cant zero a rifle from your trajectory charts, dont even attempt using a scope
@wheresthecorporal You have the ability to see what rings he has? who makes them and you actually see the scope move with in them, damn bro you have amazing sight..
scope rings are too high, you need a rear sand bag, learn to hand load ammo to find your barrel's accuracy node, glass bed the stock.....the list goes on. keep tryin dude.
2. Did you really lay that .460 down, loaded, facing toward other shooters and the parking lot? If you did, kick yourself in the nerts so I dont have to. Just letting you know, you point that loaded hog at me and we are going to have issues. If not, accept my apologies and agree that safely is the only golden rule on the range!
3. You are obviously skilled at shooting but seriously, no ear protection?
@jaysonvilett weekend warriour or not my friend i have great ability, and just to show how much you know or rather do not the high scope rings are to clear the barrel with the large scope you retard!
@GT03235 plus if you get into the long range stuff, those high scope rings are pretty much required for modifying your trajectory to lob the .308 into the 1000 yard range.
@GT03235 So...couple good things in this video. #1. Cleaning your guns often. Good job, it really helps. Darrel Hollands Witches Brew is the best stuff. #2. You're using your other hand to push the rifle up.
Bad things- #1. Lower your scope another 3/4's of an inch. #2. Get your thumb on the other side of the rifle, and don't use your pinky (both twist the gun when you grip it). #3. You need better contact with your cheek. Overall, okay.
Scopes way to high... bring her doen more to get her closer to the bore.. Cheek wels is to high also.. A Karsten Cheek piece will solve that. I bet it will be way more comfortable to shoot if you do those 2 things.. Other than that good job..
the first thing you need to do if you want to "shoot more accuratly" is get the shortest scope rings you can and a cheek piece to make your eyes even with the scope
You really shouldnt have both eyes open when you go to fire a weapon with a magnified scope. Iron sight and sights like red dots and EO Techs yes but not with a magnified weapon since it puts too much strain on your eyes, especially since one is seeing magnified and the other regular.
What a tool. when you are shooting at distance through a scope your eyes causes conflict due to the diffrent distances. You need to learn the natural zero of the body and get off the stupid talbe because your not going to have one in the field. At 100 yards? you should be shooting at least 500 yards. what kind of gun range sniper are you? Get from the range and get in the field and then learn. I give you two thumbs down.
@loleti94 ive been shooting guns since i was three, get off my ass, i havnt and never will use ear protection, the only thing my ear will need protection from is your bullcrap so shut up.
@ADeerHunter29 - I use to say that to and recently I had an in depth eat test and the left ear was so low on the scale the tester looked at me and said have you done a lot of shooting? In the military etc. So it does effect you as you get older!
@ADeerHunter29 dude there is no "use to it" youre doin more damage to yourself then you think. it would be like not brushing your teeth or not showering at first its great then after awhile when you need medical your not gonna like it so much. (HEARING AIDS) I dont want to be like my dad or granpa who you have to yell at just to have a conversation with
Wow, that's awesome accuracy with the rifle! Especially given that it's with factory loads. Is the rifle bedded and floated or something??
On a more serious note, I'm afraid I do have to agree with what perofish said about the handgun. When I saw you put that loaded gun on the bench with the barrel facing backwards (towards people) my heart almost skipped a beat.
Not trying to talk you down or anything dude, but you really shouldn't do that.
You know, in a pinch for ear protection, you can do what the gunny does and shove a couple of .460 rounds in your ears. Its crude, not pretty, but it works. Good luck
Dam nice group with the 308. I think many people over rate their accuracy. You are one of i few i can say that can truly shoot at sub moa group. Dam i know how it feels when you leave something important at home. And i am the same way , I am not going home to get it. lol
wow.. i agree with perofish > you should not be giving shooting tips. No hearing protection, you left our eye protection on your forehead shooting your Remington, crossed the firing line, and finally, pointed the barrel of the S&W at the people behind you. Terrible video to post..
you should not be teaching anything that has to do with firearms. Your safety is non exsistant and people who know less will imitate you with potentially fatal dividends. If you cant do it right ... then dont do it-- espically when showing others. Your comments to someone stating the same thing speaks volums as the type of person you are. Shooters beware ...
also, dont go without ear protection when you can help it, almost everyone has fast food napkins in the vehicle, just rip a piece off and ball it up, it beats the hell out of nothing.
@GT03235 i guess it depends on how you have trained to shoot.
i was not slamming your video at all man, or you yourself, as i quite enjoy your videos, you just seem very loaded down in gear in some of your videos, and was just asking a question as to if you could run a mile in it, regardless, maybe i worded it wrong by typing fast, but do you personally make use of everything on your load-out gear, i guess i should have just asked, "how much does that weigh" and is it worth it to carry.
Of all people you should not be teaching tips on shooting to people. First, you shot without ear protection. Second, you crossed the line of fire when shooting the S&W. Third, you loaded 5 rounds into your .460, after shooting the first round you swung that loaded handgun backwards and towards where the people are. If I was you I would take this video off line, because you are a douchebag.
@GT03235 So instead of taking constructive criticism like a man you decide to insult him, and how was he supposed to know he wasn't going to like this, you didn't name the title "Improving unsafe gun practices". You totally are a douchebag...
@perofish Safe Shooting is another lesson. It's a practice and a smart one at that, but it has nothing to do with accuracy. If he wore Earplugs would that make him a better shot? No, and so it has zero relevance in the context of this video, titled "Improving your accuracy! best on you tube!." That being said (and I shouldn't need to preach common sense) Wear protection!
nothing against you bud, but all the time i have been shooting i know that not having hearing protection really, really stinks and even if you want to shoot a video it is a video unless your renting the camera. but even there I don't understand why you could not go grab some hearing protection before shooting the video believe me we are not going any where if you post the video 1 hour later than you did it would not have made a difference
Great grouping on your shots and hell, for a hand gun to get that kind of grouping at 100Yards that stands in testament to your eyesight and control.
Im Just going to make two suggestions, with all due respect of course.
1. I know that guy was annoying in the background, but when you walked away both times you pointed your loaded gun right in his direction and not down range.
2. a small piece of loose foam over your mic really cuts down on the wind noise.
I forgot my hearing protection one day when I went shooting, luckily the range was empty and I had an emergency pair of socks in my truck that I cut up and stuffed in my ears, worked really well too.

Your grip, it provides too much negative force due to sympatethic movement. Your grip on the stock also presents pulse to the rifle.
You shoot on 100 yrds/mtrs so this does not apply, but on 500 or more you WILL miss the target. My 2 cents...

@liljohn830 Dont think i will ever live that down with forgetting my ear plugs lol Thanks for the comment
GT03235 9 months ago
You know, in a pinch for ear protection, you can do what the gunny does and shove a couple of .460 rounds in your ears. Its crude, not pretty, but it works. Good luck
videojunkie1981 9 months ago
Dam nice group with the 308. I think many people over rate their accuracy. You are one of i few i can say that can truly shoot at sub moa group. Dam i know how it feels when you leave something important at home. And i am the same way , I am not going home to get it. lol

@recommend you watch a few videos yourself..on range safety.
53hound 9 months ago
wow.. i agree with perofish > you should not be giving shooting tips. No hearing protection, you left our eye protection on your forehead shooting your Remington, crossed the firing line, and finally, pointed the barrel of the S&W at the people behind you. Terrible video to post..

Achisachis73 10 months ago
you should not be teaching anything that has to do with firearms. Your safety is non exsistant and people who know less will imitate you with potentially fatal dividends. If you cant do it right ... then dont do it-- espically when showing others. Your comments to someone stating the same thing speaks volums as the type of person you are. Shooters beware ...

hockeyfan1003 1 year ago
also, dont go without ear protection when you can help it, almost everyone has fast food napkins in the vehicle, just rip a piece off and ball it up, it beats the hell out of nothing.

can you even run a mile with your gear on?
bjizzle123 1 year ago
@bjizzle123 what the fuck has that got to do with shooting?
GT03235 1 year ago 4
@GT03235 i guess it depends on how you have trained to shoot.
i was not slamming your video at all man, or you yourself, as i quite enjoy your videos, you just seem very loaded down in gear in some of your videos, and was just asking a question as to if you could run a mile in it, regardless, maybe i worded it wrong by typing fast, but do you personally make use of everything on your load-out gear, i guess i should have just asked, "how much does that weigh" and is it worth it to carry.

chefslot 8 months ago
Of all people you should not be teaching tips on shooting to people. First, you shot without ear protection. Second, you crossed the line of fire when shooting the S&W. Third, you loaded 5 rounds into your .460, after shooting the first round you swung that loaded handgun backwards and towards where the people are. If I was you I would take this video off line, because you are a douchebag.

@GT03235
You could improve your accuracy by raising your scope about another 1/4"
clsammo 11 months ago 7
@GT03235 theres a reason we got safety rules dumbfuck, without them people die. perofish is 100% right.
youronlinesniper 11 months ago
@GT03235 So instead of taking constructive criticism like a man you decide to insult him, and how was he supposed to know he wasn't going to like this, you didn't name the title "Improving unsafe gun practices". You totally are a douchebag...
xReckz 10 months ago
@perofish Safe Shooting is another lesson. It's a practice and a smart one at that, but it has nothing to do with accuracy. If he wore Earplugs would that make him a better shot? No, and so it has zero relevance in the context of this video, titled "Improving your accuracy! best on you tube!." That being said (and I shouldn't need to preach common sense) Wear protection!

nothing against you bud, but all the time i have been shooting i know that not having hearing protection really, really stinks and even if you want to shoot a video it is a video unless your renting the camera. but even there I don't understand why you could not go grab some hearing protection before shooting the video believe me we are not going any where if you post the video 1 hour later than you did it would not have made a difference
salpen747 1 year ago
Great grouping on your shots and hell, for a hand gun to get that kind of grouping at 100Yards that stands in testament to your eyesight and control.
Im Just going to make two suggestions, with all due respect of course.
1. I know that guy was annoying in the background, but when you walked away both times you pointed your loaded gun right in his direction and not down range.
2. a small piece of loose foam over your mic really cuts down on the wind noise.
Cheers! thanks for the vid's!
