@thompson197 Yes! See Med Flory interview on vid Charlie Parker Panel 'like Mozart with blue notes'. You can certainly appreciate this without being able to play sax but you will certainly get more out of it if you can. That is why many scolars on Parker (like Thomas Owen PHD )learned the saxophones fingering and technique.
's a pity that the white Europeans took the drums from the slaves on their arrival to the American slave colonies. Could you imagine how the rhythm section would have sounded with all those African poly rhythms flooding the underneath of this song. It would have been a different man. Like C.Alkebulan playing instead of rigid Parker.
"Just Friends" is a popular song that has become a jazz standard . The song was written in 1931 by John Klenner with lyrics by Sam M. Lewis. Famous and beautiful version: Chet Baker, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan. Also beautiful the swing version of Sharon Clark on youtube "Sharon Clark Just Friends"
masterpiece up until this tune couldn't hear Parker's genius I was able to hear him after hearing this tune///

Nothing about this perfect record is 'a pity'...
It's a gem and I know that Charlie Parker had no problem whatsoever with any aspect of it.
Thanks for posting this!
Best wishes from the U.K.
