They come across Earth: liquid water, abundant plant/animal life, raw natural resources. We have what they want! They decide to TAKE it. But first must fumigate those pesky Human roaches.

My point is that you can't judge history from what you think would have happened otherwise, because we don't have the information to make good predictions about that kind of thing. For instance, yes the Nazis would have gotten further without U.S. intervention. But for all we know, the system might have been too unstable. The hierarchy might have torn itself apart. Hitler might have been assassinated. You just never know.

well the fact that the Nazi system was indeed unstable was a very major player in their defeat. Hitler had the final word in everything, and the military commanders didn't had a very good hierarchy, for example air force, naval and army commanders didn't communicate very well. and Hitler ALMOST got assassinated, see the 20 July plot. he almost died, and even though he was in the same freaking room with a bomb, he fucking didn't. i say that would have discourage future attempts.
