  • Just picked up the LP at goodwill store great album,The only mention of Leon is as producer, plus there is a picture on the back of him and Billy Byrd. What a score. Now it is in the collection

  • Leon was always one my favs. He seems to love Country too. I believe he and Willie N. had an album they worked together.

  • Sweet.

  • This is the best cover I have heard of this.

  • Killer !

Who woulda thought that ol' Swamp Rocker could do such a great version of ROLL IN MY SWEET BABY'S ARMS ?

  • All time fave, I love LEON!

  • Leon released a country music album, "Hank Wilson's Back" under the name Hank Wilson on August 31st,1973. In 1984 Leon released his second country album under the Hank Wilson name, "Hank Wilson Vol. II". In 1998 "Hank Wilson Vol. 3: Legend In My Time" Last of all is Rhythm & Bluegrass: Hank Wilson vol. 4",

  • One of my favorite albums from the 70's!

  • yyyyyahh!

  • hank wilson's back.

  • "Hank Wilson's Back", what an album!

I believe this album predated Nitty Gritty

Dirt Band's "Will the Circle be unbroken".

This introduced a lot of rock and rollers

to bluegrass and introduced a lot of

old hardline country folks to the fact that

the young folks liked their music but enjoyed putting a little different spin on it.

Folks like the Ozark Mountain Daredevils,

Asleep at the Wheel, owe a lot to this

    album.

  • i love leon's stuff all over - hank wilson's back was in its own special character. when i was thinking of this song leon's version was in my head. glad i could find it here

  • Hank is Leon's alter ego. Leon recorded a total of 4 country albums as "Hank Wilson".

  • Leon Russell was born Hank Wilson. He later changed his name to Leon Russell.

  • i think you will find he was born claude russell bridges

  • According to Wickipedia, that's so. According to The New Rolling Stone Encyclopedia of Rock & Roll, he was born Hank Wilson. I guess it's all a matter of resources and refernce material...

  • If Rolling Stone said that, they're cooked. "Hank Wilson" was just a pseudonym (or a character, if you will) that Leon adopted for his first "Country" LP, HANK WILSON'S BACK.

    He's from Tulsa, Oklahoma.

    I'm from Tulsa.

Everyone in Tulsa knows Leon's real name was Claude Russell Bridges, with Leon Russell being his 'stage name'.

He's so well known here that no one calls him Leon Russell.

You just say "Leon", and people usually know who you're talking about.

  • "Hank Wilson's Back" is one of my all time favorite record albums (anyone remember vinyl LP's ?) - no mention of Leon on the album as far as I can remember.

  • it says leon russell only once on the back of the albums, where it listed everyone's instruments they played. other than that, his pictures say 'hank wilson'. its too funny, and is my favorite leon album. I want to find more. I was told there were more than one 'hank wilsons back' volumes, but I cannot find it any of them except the volume 1. any help?

  • OMG SO LOVE IT!!!

Thanks alot for sharin' Leon is AMAZIN' ina word!!!

Jade, dancin' & prancin' & rockin' in bright fields in flight o fancy!!!

  • This whole album is awesome

  • Mighty Fine. Might dag-gummed fine.

  • My intro to bluegrass was through Leon.

  • "Hank Williams Back" - thanks Leon...thanks for posting a great talent
