I showed my kids this video on Christmas day. They called me a loser and went to play on x-box 360.I fired up my commy and played last ninja 3.Who,s the loser now you spoilt little halfbreads.....I also grounded them until they are 64.
For 600 $ in 1982 we have had one new car in Poland to buy, straight in special shops only for very rich people (monthly earning of registered nurse in 1982 was about 20 $ !!!)
@alieniemisteri true, but this demo was done earlier than that, and used only basic sfx, sprites, and the regular char set 2:28 done with just the plain old character set? how long did that take
Watching this takes me back to my husband's and my first apartment, and our first Christmas with our then 9-month-old daugther. She would sit mesmerized by this demo and watch it over and over. Aaah, memories!
Hey, CP/M on the C-128 was how I learned DOS on the "new" 8088's. Whenever I wanted to do something for school, I always switched to CP/M mode to write papers. Sad how nobody saw how powerful and stable that mode was.
This was the first program I loaded when I got my C64 in the 80's. Got the Xmas Compendium Set with it in again and had it on last Christmas... Awesome :0)
Have a happy C64 Christmas! And remember, all those great 1986 C64 games have their 25th anniversary next year! Just like all the great 1985 C64 games had their 25th anniversary this year!!!!!!
BTW, every time I hear Bach's Invention #13, I can't help but think of the mighty C-64!
For the time, it really was an amazing little PC! With over 30 million sold, it touched many people. I love the C-64! I love Atari too, but I'm not "in love" with it, if ya know what I mean? (j/k) Also, I'm eternally grateful for the magical gift of "Emulation"! It enables me to play C-64 (& other retro systems) 4-Ever!
it's not the real Commodore, they went under in 1993. Now they just sell high end PC's in Commodore 64 shells with a C64 emulator along with Window's 7
I know, but it's still kind of cool. It would be even cooler if they made a plug-and-play Commodore 64, keyboard and all, with built in games, sort of like the Atari flashbacks. I bought a joystick with about 20 or so common Commodore games, but not many of the good ones.

I found this as a download on a BBS board when I was 12! It took 6 hours to download with the phone modem, then another hour to copy to 5.25 floppy disk! We played it all day on Christmas.
LOAD"*",8,1 loads the last used directory entry from drive 8 into its requested memory space. If you turn on your drive the last directory pointer will point to nowhere so the drive will load the first entry that is a PRG from disk.
The requested memory space is represented by the first two bytes of a binary.
If you ommit the ,1 those are ignored and the binary will be loaded at basic start, that is decimal 2049.

If anybody's interested, do a search on Commodore USA and you can see the new Commodore and Amiga computers.

I miss Commodore.
I wish they were in the computer market still, they would have the Amiga or something even better kicking Windows ass.
Long live the mighty Commodore 64 and long live Commodore for so many great memories.

They still do. Search commodore usa and you'll find it.

I remember this! Thanks for posting, I haven't seen that in a long time. I spent way too much time with my C64 and my 300 baud modem.
nastybastard 4 years ago
I'm now tempted to dig out my C64 and see if I remember my way around it. load "$",8 here I come!
WTLNTT 4 years ago
I believe the $ name will only call the directory list.
The correct command is probably:
LOAD"*",8.1
Watcher3223 3 years ago
If memory serves, load "*",8,1 will auto-execute the first file in the directory list, as the ,1 indicates it's an executable binary... I think.
WTLNTT 3 years ago 2
@WTLNTT
Ok, before someone learns something wrong.
LOAD"*",8,1 loads the last used directory entry from drive 8 into its requested memory space. If you turn on your drive the last directory pointer will point to nowhere so the drive will load the first entry that is a PRG from disk.

@BastetFurry Yes, you're correct, it's been a long while since I've used a C64. Suppose I should dig it out and see if it even works anymore. ;-)
