A difficult subject for a science fiction movie... and it didn't come across as 'cheesy'. I wondered if any body in those days could make a well ground movie version of such a heady concept... it translated well.
One of the darkest movies ever... the ante litteram cyborg. plus the amazing BW and the piano score make something I find very attractive. I think Verhoeven copied the 'birth' scene for Robocop - the statics, subjective vision etc.. Not mentioning the concept, even if Robocop ends up the opposite - the man prevails over the machine.
I need to find a way to get this movie on dvd. Amazon, Ebay?
I love the Colossus, truly great costume. The static/electric voice is so disturbing and the story is great for a sci-fi movie. It is also one of the saddest horror films ever, the ending is heart rending.
OK, if he is supposed to be the smartest man in the world, how come he couldn't figure out he could have gotten a broomstick or something and turned off his own switch, and why is he wearing choir robes?
You are correct - The brain comes from Jeremy Spensser (brother of the young Dr. in scene, son of the older doctor) who has been killed accidently in an earlier scene.
I have never seen this film. I want to! Am I correct in thinking there's supposed to be a human brain in there? Poor ol' dude! Hey, let's give him a body that makes Frankenstein's monster look like a wimp!
Quite effectively creepy for an old film....except how come everybody bar the two scientists realizes that he's going to run amok as soon as he's activated?!
Thank You, this was THE perfect scene to upload from this movie. I saw it when I was 6 years old and this brought back how much it disturbed me as a little boy. Horrible concept for a 6 year old.
Any plans to upload it? I've never seen this on TV, don't know why they never show it. Hard to believe it's been 52 years since I saw it. I remember being on the verge of tears during the movie because my dad took me to see it and I was imagining it happening to him. Really put a scar on my tiny mind, I've talked to others my age who say the same.
@TheJomogogo I couldn't think of anything worse than a remake of this. The great appeal of this film is the fact it was made in 1958. A modern remake would be nothing more than a couple of hours of over-the-top special effects with plenty of explicit blood and gore and a bit of sleaze thrown in. I'll stick to the original!
I have never stopped being scared to death by this. I have nightmares about the Colossus to this day. His eyes, his voice, the otherworldly music...Brrrrrrr
He should play for the Knicks.

I saw this movie years ago, and loved it. I LOVE that scream! Even better that we don't see it. I wish they would release this on DVD.

Anyone remember Autobot X from "Transformers"? I think this was definitely the source material.
