This is beautiful. There is another gospel song about Beulah Land that starts "I've reached the land of corn and wine", which is hard to find a recording of for some reason.
What a beautiful rendition of this song! Alison has the voice of an angel.
I'm a little confused about the references to the Appalachian region. maybe the director of this particular film took creative liberties and I've not seen this particular movie. The version of "Where the Red Fern Grows" that I am familiar with, took place in the Ozarks. Billy had to go get the redbone coon hounds at Tahlaquah, Oklahoma.
I dont think she was trying to bring attention to anything when she sang these songs. I think she sang them because she loves gospel. That is why I love it. When I hear them I do not think "OH poor App" I think "oh, I love this beautiful music that gives God the glory". I dont understand all the bad stuff over these beautiful songs that she sings so beautifully. Not everyone is trying to make a statement. I think she just does what she loves
I dont lump anything. Not all geographic people need help so lets cut off all exposure for people that need tthings because you dont like being stereotyped. Your statement is not only selfish but it is prideful too. I cant believe THAT is why you took offense. Because how people MIGHT conceive you, No wonder charity is dying today. Lord help us.
@avoicetobehurd Look. I know there are poor people here that need assistance, but they are absolutely no worse off than other individuals in other poor areas of the country. One should offer assistance no faster to help those suffering here than the homeless in NY, Chicago, or any other big city. I wasn't offended by your statement, and I'm still not. Although I'd say Diane Sawyer brought more attention to the afflicted App Mtn people than Alison Krauss.
@natcupcakes How blessed you are that you dont need help. You have tv and a computer. Well, not everyone is so lucky to have a warm bed and clothes. Food to fill their tummy. I dont know what Apps Mtn is but if you are the average person from there. I would never want to know. How sad to be so selfish.
@avoicetobehurd I was not saying that to be selfish. Your comment made it seem as if you lump all Appalachian people into the same category of needing fuel, food, clothes, etc. And you then proceeded to ask ncguy what he is doing for us. What I'm saying is the majority of us don't need hand outs. We are as capable and knowledgeable as anyone from any other part of the state, or the country for that matter. Your comment showed nothing more than stereotypical ignorance of our region.
OUT ~ ~ STAND~ ~ ING!!!! Thank you for posting this pure angelic version of a beautiful song about The HOPE of G L O R Y and being with JESUS! ALLELUIA!
ncguy001 -- Alison brings regional music to a wider audience. How is that bad? she's sponsored other bluegrass singers. And folks who would have been put off by regional vocal accents are more inclined to hear the beautiy of bluegrass through her voice.
@ncguy001 How is that?? You are confusing her with our government ncguy! I am an ncgirl. What do you do to bring attention to the Appalachian people. You drive up there with food and clothes and money and help. You patch up the shacks and give them fuel to keep warm? Alison's music brings the world to the doorstep of these people. What do you do ncguy for them?
@avoicetobehurd Wait, I don't understand his comment necessarily either, but are you from the App Mtns? I was born and raised NC App, and we don't all have shacks or need anyone to come and give us clothes, money, fuel and food. That's pretty stereotypical if that's what you were implying. We also don't need Alison Krauss to bring music to our doorsteps, we're doing just fine that way also. We even have picture tubes and and this neat little screen with a keyboard so I can type on the Youtubes.
if i was a girl i would kill to have a voice like that

Her lack of vibrato gives this rendition of Beulah Land a haunting quality.
