  • Whoops - my bad - it was "The Detergents" - even better! Look it up...

  • I can never listen to this song and not think about the Allan Sherman (?) take-off, "Leader of the Laundromat"...lol

  • Jane,I liked motorbikes when young! Who did'nt Leader of the Pack was BIG with me then.

  • I'm 70 years old and this was one of my favourites long ago!

  • @edwardfmurphy hi how r u

  • my aunt married a "bad boy" and he hung out at the roller rink -- can you imagen her riding on the back of his motorcycle in a poodle skirt and saddle shoes? They were married over fifty years -- you just never know.

  • This isn't as good as the one I used to play repeatedly which I preferred. Probably a remastered studio version.

  • This makes me cry every time...

  • I like the backing band. Big beats for all!

  • In response to the last comment you only thought they were black because we thought that they were the only people who could really sing. I listened to these songs when I was only 5 or 6 and I still love the music. And I always will.

  • @456dwyer I don't get it. I was 2 and I knew they were white.

  • Shangri-Las - Leader of the Pack (Live 1964)

  • 60年代弾けポップの極上音、シャングリ・ラズ、"Leader Of The Pack”~ともかくこの頃派清楚でキュートな時代だったネ!

  • I love the fact that the leader of the pack was hanging out at the candy store.

    sounds like public enemy #1.

  • @AL13NM maybe he was the leader of the peado pack

  • me gusta esta versión

  • lol, gods those bras are horrible. you could stab people with those boobs.

  • these white girls had some soul thats all lol but its a nice oldie from the 60s i love it

  • I guess I'm the only person who doesn't think about the colors of the singers when hearing musicians singing a style of music. Blame my crazy successful parents and integrated military brat upbringing, I guess.

  • i was born back in 1984 and i have always loved this song since i was a little boy and it is my favorite song of all time and i have always thought that they was a black group

  • I like twisted sisters version of this song

  • wow,ive been a fan for years,never heard this version b4.thankyou thankyou

  • this version is good but I like the happy feet one better

  • I had such a crush on Mary that I ended up marrying a woman who could have been her twin! We've been married 37 years and she and Mary STILL look alike! Thank you,Lord!

  • @schiodo101 Which one is this "Mary" that you speak so highly of?

  • @YoungGuns019 The blonde.

  • @schiodo101 The middle one?

  • wow you can feel the energy. can't get this on the recording.

  • "the sluts of the 60's"

  • @TheProductofsociety Otherwise known as "flappers."

  • I want to thank my 4th grade music teacher for playing this song all the time and teaching me to appreciate old music. I'm 14 and this song makes realize how much children these days don't care.

  • fan vilka slöstrutar dom har

  • edit out the screams and this is the best performance of this song i have heard.

soda pop and pony boy's favorite girl group.

  • @SANTASONG1 because they are young enough to not need them?

  • No Shangri-Las, no NewYork Dolls. No Dolls, no N.Y. punk scene in the 70's. Thank you girls, you were ahead of your time!

  • @SANTASONG1 Proberly aint.....lol

  • They dont sound black to me at all.good but not like how a black girl would have done it.Amy whinhouse used to sang how a black girl would have done it and amy does have that little girl rasp like the lead in this group so i see her big influence. But back then every song was A+ white or black but nothin beats motown.

  • is this version on any compilations?

  • dam those are some rank ass titys

  • THIS ISN'T LIVE! THIS IS DEAD! THEIR NOT EVEN MOVING. THEIR JUST FROZEN THERE. DISCUSTING!

  • @HEARTHEANGELSVOICES It's the recording of a live performance. Can't you hear the screaming?

  • @HEARTHEANGELSVOICES your a funny guy , but not smart :-)))))))

  • @walter4092 - THANK YOU!

  • WOW ! !Bought up in the 60s.Thought I knew everything about the music from that era,Not afraid to admit I got it completly wrong about these girls, always assumed they were coloured,

What a fantastic version of this Classic Track

As with all the girl singers/groups of that era, so pretty, energetic etc who obviously enjoyed performing and could sing live So unlike the singers of today who work so hard to make themselves look a complete mess..............

  • Great live version of the song! Their vocals are stunning,mesmerizing,brilli-

ant! The writing and recording of this great song was magic! They were only

18 in 1964 when the song became a huge hit.

  • Que Triste voz de Mary Weiss.

  • I love the pointy bras.

  • Even in my teen years this was popular (1980s). I wonder where they got all the scream girls from?

  • @OurFadedGarden this is live, thats why all the girls are screaming. :)

  • Amazing. I'm 60 years old and always assumed the Shangri-Las were a black group. Shows how much I know.

  • @thehistorywatcher LMAO ha ha ha ha thats too funny!

  • @thehistorywatcher thats exactly what I thought till about 3 seconds ago........I always assumed they were black girls too because they had that Phill Spector, Ronnettes sound

  • @thehistorywatcher me too but I'm 59.lol

  • @thehistorywatcher hahaha your awesome

  • @thehistorywatcher Holy cow, I thought the same thing too!

  • Teenage anx luv it

  • what a year

  • Fabulous ground breaking 60's pop. The girls also really set the atmosphere for how cool young girls dressed and sang. I saw it happen, and believe me they were happening. Five (*****) Stars

  • they might be in need of a bra??

  • @goofoffman411 no bras! they burned those babies!! lol

  • @TheGil080 Well you would know... yer full of it!

  • Talking about the wrong side of town ... don't forget Patches ... sigh ...

  • even that 1 was great, think of the best rock songs ever, well this band did it

  • Excellent moshin' tune !!!

  • Ow moy gawd its da Shayngra lores from kaweens. When I hear dis oy just wanna go owt fower cawfee.

  • When they originally mixed this, they made the backing vocals louder than the lead.

  • @sircronin thanks for taking the time out from your fascinating virtual fantasy world and posting such an enlightening and well informed comment ... you silly pixie ... xXx

  • i love this song iam fans

  • i hardcore dance to this!

  • @niggerjosh lol

  • that drummer was slammin!!

  • I was at this concert, had some pretty big performers for that time, no one had their own band so they had this canned big band backup for all the performers, Ok for the times, but not today. At least it was live, no lip sync crap like you see for this era.

Saw the girls again at the Beacon in the 90's, Mary and only one of the twins who had survived. Sorry to hear Marge is gone too. They sounded pretty good.

Not everyone is going to like this stuff but it will still live forever.

    Yo Mary!

  • my mom played this for me wen i was little its an old assss song but i love it

  • some beat ass chicks

  • How old was Mary? And the other two when they came out with leader of the pack? The lead girl looks pretty young

  • @pyschyamind Mary would likely be 15 as she was born on Dec. 28, 1948, Betty would be 17 or 18, the twins Marge and Mary Ann Ganser were 16. Pretty amazing, ah? Betty sang on the recordings but did not tour much in '64 and '65.

  • It looks like Sabrina the Teenage Witch and the Jonas Brothers.

  • boobs look funny here

  • those are 1960 boobs

  • @cocacapitalist lol, well.. it looks like they're not wearing a bra, haha.

  • i love how its life and there screaming reminds me of that one new school video

  • I remember them appearing there! My older sister and I went there, one of the biggest acts to come to Brooklyn. It was a mob scene! Murray the K booked the best acts, but yeah, they had to speed up the tempo to *cram* more acts in a small time frame :( Great memories.

  • @goBklyngirl

Sorry, lady, but that business about speeding up the songs is utter bullshit.

And even if it WAS true, 10 seconds times 30 songs equals 300 seconds ... or 5 minutes. Which is about two songs. Some act.

  • my chorus performed this and i had to get on a tricycle and crash into the piano.

  • One of the best songs (and there were so many) to come out of the '60's. What a sad story though!

  • Am I missing something? I thought this was the Shangir-Las and not Susan Tedeschi...Love Susan but, it's not what it says it is!!!!

  • Murray the K always had the backup band play everything too fast.

  • Man wat heiß

  • i LOVE this song!!! :3

  • Happy Birthday Margie and Mary Ann

  • Thank you giving me a wonderful trip back to my youth. I homeschool my grandchildren and they are now enjoying the music, that their grandmother once did. Once more thank you. Hope to hear more.

  • story of my life.

  • awe i used to love this so much when i was a little girl

  • oooooooo i love this song... at first i listen this song today/.

  • Pas mal.

  • Leader of the Pack might just be my favorite song of all time

  • where r these girls now ??

  • Mary still sings

The twins are dead (at least one of them)

    have no idea about Betty

And if you like this version, try the one with Betty singing the lead

  • Hi... Yeah both the twins died. Betty is married and has a daughter.

  • @lourdesgirl101 Both twins passed away. Mary Ann Ganser in 1970 and Marge Ganser in 1996.

  • what a great live song !

  • this comment dosent relate to the video at all.

  • Comment removed

  • Panhead Chicks COOL

  • what a fabulous live song

  • HOW THE FUCK DID SOMEONE GET THIS ? so fucking cool!

  • @jandean61

Just poking around youtube and saw your question. This is from an album Murray The K Live at the Brooklyn Fox (which I used to have). If you went to the Fox in those days, you got a movie, an LP (this one or one like it) and then you got a revue type show with a dozen or so acts doing a song or two each. 2-3 shows a day. I saw the Shangril-Las at a later date show at the Fox, not at the song/show you're hearing here. Ahhhh the good old days.

  • @SxTMinMan Murry the K coined the phrase "Watching The Submarine Races". To tell the cops when they caught you screwing some broad in the park.

  • mangaczar; she was leader of the pack so in her words look out lookout ha ha

  • i'm sorry but the one on the right looks like a man....

  • the left too, kinda. just look back and forth between their faces.

  • oh, true that...

  • Interesting what was said about the Beatles ripping this off.. The girl on the left has Ringo's hair, they ripped off the hair styles of the dark haired girls also. LOL

  • Wow - this totally rocks! What a great version - thanks for posting.

  • I don't think the Beatles "ripped off" this but I do know that they were huge fans and heavily influenced by the Girl Group Sound.

  • Edhallick: How can The Beatles have "ripped off" this when The Beatles were formed in 1960 and first charted in 1962 and this band weren't formed until 1963?

  • The early Beatles ripped all this stuff off. They did the male version of the girl groups.

  • In Brooklyn, of all places! So this recording is really the genuine article.

  • If you lived through the 60s, you'd know it's piece of tape and peace now!

  • sad song

  • Spock chek your trycorder , are these girls human? lol

  • Damn them drums sure very funky

  • how old are they??

  • it's awesome that anyone has this at all....vocals are great, backup band SUCKS, they just play the same beat the whole way through, no changes...which are the most important part of the song. Whatev, it's from 1964, so again, nice that we have it at all.

  • bernie if you have more of this Please post it .i cant get enuff thank you.

  • Id give my left nut to go to this concert thanks for this peace of tape!

  • i'd give my left nut to go spend a day in the 1960's in general, i really got ripped of in the generational lottery. 1993 was my year

  • Great song!

  • The Seargent of the squad?

  • The President of the Country?

  • none of them are wearing bras:O

  • Well, yes, they are -- those pointy bras that were popular in the sixties.

  • I'm amazed at the ammount of people who still get off slagging each other off on youtube... you'd think the novelty had worn off by now.

  • Slagging never gets old, you stupid pig.

  • I think you'll find you're mistaken..you're thinking of shagging...

  • lol

  • @dehro

It brings out the anger and cowardice in some.

  • it hasnt throughout the history of mankind....think its gonna stop on youtube?...lol

  • @dehro what!? how could calling each other fags and trailer trash in the privacy of our homes without the thought of repercussions ever get old!? get real ma man

  • @dehro Kids discover youtube continuously so we will have to get used to it.

  • I think that the B-52's had to be influenced by these girls.

They did some cool things really early on.

  • Listen to Aguilera playbacking then .

    At least this was L I V E ♫

  • mybe not all just them called bush clinton carter ect all best from england

  • haha toshay =]:P

  • you dont get the picture never will be leader of the pack do you feel helpless what can you do do do

  • I was the shape of the bras lol.

  • I would have dated Mary but I was robbed and born in 85 instead

  • true :|

  • you are a dick head. that is what people looked like before record companies injected silicone into tits to sell music to small minded fools like you
