  • Beautiful just beautiful!!!

  • One of my younger day fav songs. Nice one Al and Dave.

What has happened to proper musicians theses days? this is just mesmorising.

  • Thank you)))

  • A classic, the song and the voice.

  • That solo is amazing! What a great guitar player.

  • @bassmanjoe - who needs a saxophone when you've got Dave Nachmanoff? :-)

  • Still sings like he did back in 1976. Fantastic, glad i grew up hearing this amazing music at a very young age. Still timeless, unlike today's music.

  • Just saw an Al Stewart acoustic concert in Livermore (CA). The dude that accompanied him was just amazing!! What great solos! Amazing!!!

  • Yes, this is awesome. But does anyone have any idea of the significance of the "Heard it through the grapevine" riff at the start and end of the song? Was he saying "Yes, I know about the rumor that I might show up and play here tonight"?

  • @dchody - no significance. Al likes to play around with his stuff. Sometimes he'll do Grapevine, other times something else. It's all good. Actually, it's all great!

  • love this song miauu

  • With all the bright lights and fame and fortune extracted from this song it still sounds brilliant.

  • Love this version

  • There's a distinct mysticism about Al's songs. I 'm a jazz musician but i really love his vision. He's one of the few, sweet people, who knows how to have fun playing music.

He's very inspired by Medieval myths and Andalucian, Moorish, musical tones(Flamenco).

When i 1st heard this song in 1976 or so, i was haunted by the beauty.

    Had to learn the chords.

    Thank you Al.

  • @taildragger53 That is one of the nicest comments I have read on Youtube. I had to learn the chords also.

  • @lafreeway Thank you---It is a great song isn't it? Very Spanish key influenced and the arrangement was layered so well with perfect solos.

I've seen a recent interview with Al Stewart and was impressed with the humour and genuine sincerity behind the man himself. It caused me to re-listen to this classic again.

Modesty is a rare thing in the music world..actually, in life, come to think of it.(ha ha).

  • This is beautiful. He has such a lovely voice, and this on acoustic sounds fantastic.

  • What a player are they! 5 stars from here.

  • Großartig!

  • Speechlessly haunted by this song

  • Listen to his rendition from "Time Passages Live" - it sounds so much like the original hit single it's amazing. I was so awestruck. It wasn't "unplugged" like this version. I was disappointed listening to some modern Neil Diamond songs. He IS past his prime. But this is so cool. I've never seen him in concert.

  • great stuff, thanks for posting! :)

  • One of the best concerts I've ever seen, Kaisersalutern Germany June 2007!

  • DANKE, wunderschön!

  • fantastic music

  • Wow! Al Stewart's voice still sound great! Awesome guitar player too! :o)

  • Wow! Al Stewart's voice still sound great! Awesome guitar player too! :o)

  • I saw these guys in concert in Newberry, S.C. about 1 year ago and it was amazing. If you ever have a chance go see them. Al is fantastic and Dave is great on the guitar.

I would go again tomorrow if they come around this area again.

  • @snowman90906 - What does "tow guitars" mean please?

  • nice video! i love this song. tow guitars but same sound. thanks!!!

  • I love that this sounds so good and fresh all these years later. Al Stewart wrote some wonderful songs.

  • Super bien évidemment ! Merci Al ! this is a very special version of Year of the cat !

  • saw al in 2001. he is one of the best!

  • Absolutely amazing !!!!! wow

  • This is pretty cool in acoustic.

  • great solo , just rock and good music!!!!

  • If you like Al Stewart and his music go and see him when he comes to your town, he's still tours and put on a great show...Nothing says you like an artist better than to see them live and show it with your applause.

Al is as good as it gets.

  • @rocksinger45

Saw Al & Dave a little over a week ago. You are correct - they put on a great show. After the show they took the time to autograph CD's, chat with and pose for pics with their fans - both very nice guys.

  • @JGUIGNARD These two guys have more talent in there small finger than most of todays artist have in both hands...think I'll listen to some Al tonight on my stereo.

  • If you like Al Stewart let him know by going to see him live when he comes to your town..he's still out there touring folks and playing his music.

  • Al Stewart's excellent and distinctive voice is still as bright-sounding as ever. Wish I'd been there.

  • Awesome - quality and timeless!!!...xxx

  • I saw Al in 2002 and he was solo. He was just AWESOME solo! He can play all by himself and is just amazing!!! I was very lcuky to meet him after the show and tell him what a genius he is!

  • He certainly has changed since he played 'The Flok Cottage' at Rose in Cornwall in the mid-sixties!

  • god those guitars sound so good...

  • awesome guitar playing!!

  • That's just great - thanks for posting!

  • Your right Al Stewart was amazing I never saw anyone who could transform a room of 75 to 100 people(all the little bar held) from this is o.k to every one joining in and dancing and singing along and the level of the place went far past 11 for the few songs he did. He was very nice told great stories and still sings very well. I'm so glad my brother got tickets for my birthday as it was wonderful. Somethings you never remember but this is something you never forget.

  • WoooW!!! 4 decades later and he pulls this off with just 2 acoustics! That's a musician.

  • Wow! I'm blown away. What a performance.

  • This is why you tube was invented.

  • @thekeedone Couldn't agree more!!!

  • @thekeedone YEP!

  • diganme a mi!

  • I saw Al Stewart and Dave at Woodstock IL. Much to my surprise I ran into Al later in a bar next door. After over 30 years of listening to him finally got to meet him and get a signed Cd of famous last words. Even more amazing was a guy was doing a cover of one his song he taps me on the shoulder and say's you know I wrote this then proceed to take the stage alight it up. Amazing man and night.

  • @TheAlans44 Thank you for the story. Al is all class!

  • I saw him soon after 'Year of theCat' was released, on his first tour after it came out. Their Los Angeles appearance was at one of the smallest, (but well known) clubs in L.A., the Roxy. He had a full band, with a sax, (maybe even two) they had a black and white film clip of some WW Two scenes projected while they played Roads to Moscow. That night was pretty much three decades ago, I have been to countless concerts before, and after, that night at the Roxy, but very few were as amazing..!

  • TREMENDA JOYA MUSICAL, TODO UN HIT EN SU EPOCA Y TODO UN HIT EN LA ETERNIDAD

  • I've seen Al Stewart perform loads of different versions of this on youtube and they are all brill! Could it be the song?

  • Absolutely brilliant!

  • impressive~

  • Saw him in 93, had the whole audience eating out of his hand. One of the most underrated men in music.

  • Over the years his voice has not wavered one iota. On his latest discs "Beach Full of Shells" and "Sparks of an Ancient Light" his voice has gotten stronger. Between himself and Dave Nachmanoff with the young lady on tambourine this is an awesome performance. We might share the same birthday of September 5th but he's the GREATEST singer/songwriter around and me, well i get to listen to his great songs and marvel at his work.

  • Al Stewart is, in my opinion, a Living National Treasure - a title they take seriously in Japan and apply to their great artists and achievers. And in Dave Nachmanoff - his "psychic sidekick" - he has found a great artist in his own right who plays effortlessly with, against, and through the master, seeming to anticipate every musical nuance. I remain in awe. They're also both wonderful human beings who honor and enjoy their fans.

  • A great performer and a masterful guitarist.

  • You are so right, SantaBarbara Dianne, this is one of those play in my head all day and night long songs. That and "Driver's Seat" by Sniff'n the Tears. Thank you, VincentLyons for posting this live performance. It's much appreciated.

  • his voice is amazing.. impeccable..and what a performance..♥ ty for uploading, this was a treat and a joy to watch ♥

  • oh my god.. first time seeing him older.. amazing...

  • Al Stewart is a gentil, nice, and talented musician that always give more than only a show, he jams in front of the people so naturaly, I love it!

  • Al is awesome man... He still looks great even if he doesn't have much hair... I would love for him to Columbus Ohio for a show... Love the bit with heard it through the grapevine here... He is amazing... :-)

  • Quem diria, o bom e velho Al Stewart continua como os Ases do Rock and Roll, só falta um retorno ao Brasil

  • Que nos juntarmos para pedir este retorno?

  • amen to that, Dave should have had a cut out as well, with all that lead work, amazing performance,........

  • Just great.

  • Fantastic. Period.

  • The Year of the Cat is one of the rare songs that I don't mind it getting stuck in my head all day

  • From a Bogart's Movie.................and Contemplating a Crime!

You know sometimes, you are bound to leave her, BUT for now you are gonna stay....CLASSIC WORDS

  • Thanx 4 the clip and the heads-up about the new CD! This is as lovely as I expected it to be -- I saw Al play solo twice at the soon-to-close Cactus Cafe, and he was amazing (plus I had "taping privileges" so I have wonderful soundboard recordings of both shows)! He's so proficient on his own that you'd swear he had a secret band hiding in the wings.

He's funny, too; at one show he changed the lyrics to go "You go strolling through the crowd like Dick Cheney contemplating a crime"!

  • There is an amazing depth of sound for two acoustic guitars and a woman with a tambourine. And, Al Stewart seems not to have lost any timbre in his voice. Many of his contemporaries cannot claim the same.

  • @Doleafol Stewart plays a Taylor, but i don't know the other one

    .......

  • Awesome, thanks for posting this!

  • AL & DAVE NACHMANOFF you r great...

  • Thanks for posting

  • Brilliant! Almost 4 decades and STILL one of my top 10 songs!

I love the music of Al Stewart!

  • @bway1ner Same here. What a brilliant song!

  • Al has not lost anything to his great and superb voice. Sounds just like what we grew up with in the 1970's. Great guitar playing and great voice! I really love those great memories and time warps! AWSOME!

  • el año del gato, un clasico jejej:D

  • excelente perfomences... es maravillasa aun esta cancion

  • WOW that was awesome, It was awesome through the computer speakers, I bet it was truly amazing being there. I didnt think they could do that much on a guitar! That song was written when music took something to make, real thought. and real music talant. They just dont make music like this anymore.

  • Absolutely a treat. Thanks for posting. Great guitar work. Phenomenal.

  • I would dearly love it if someone would post a clip of these two doing Time Passages.

  • Truly a great musician and underrated for sure ! I'm still trying to learn or shall I say master the piano, and I hope I can play as effortless as these gents one day! Great stuff thanks for sharing!

  • Wish today's singers can play like this.

  • fuckin awesome Acoustic solo from Dave...totally on the money..

    Top Man..!

    beautiful.

  • Al is still in good voice. I wish someone wrote such intelligent lyrics and beautiful melodies today.

  • Is that a bit of "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" about 2 minutes in or is that just me?

  • You heard right. Al likes to throw curveballs. I've heard him do this with Hall of the Mountain King from Peer Gynt, as well as Wild Thing from the Troggs.

  • Gracias excelentes variaciones ritmicas

  • Wow!!!! Al still has it, we all get old, but seeing him still perform his masterpiece as well if not better than he did 30 years ago makes us all feel younger... Some things get better with age and this is one of them!!!

  • Dave, you rock! And you, too, Al. xoxoxo

  • I love his voice.

  • Phenomenal. Outrageously beautiful rendition. Fantastic guitar work.

  • Wow! I was bored tonight and going through old songs, thank God for youtube.

How sad we all must get old, but listening to this makes it a little bit easier to take. I remember my Dad saying they dont make music like they did when he was a kid, guess were doing the same now to our kids. even though their music sucks lol! Does anyone remember when a musican was a well rounded artist, what the hell happened to that? Ahh Well, time for some Little River Band now. Night Night everybody.

  • Saw him at a little theater in Oxford England this month. Great performer and learned. Perfect evening.

  • thank you 4 posting timeless song

  • Absolutely FRIGGIN AWSOME !!!!!!!
