those people were HEROES. It makes me sad when i see the world has become like this nowadays...back then people had balls and hearts of iron... i would be damn proud to meet even one of those persons that were on the Apollo space program. REAL ASTRONAUTS and not some scientific geeks that go to space nowadays....
Watch Marilyn Lovell during this scene. Especially when Jim's voice finally comes in over the radio at 3:59 . That's emotive acting. I'm notoriously difficult to crack, but this scene always gets to me, and I've seen it 20+ times.
I cried so many times during the movie and even 10 years after watching it the first time I cry at the end ... I can't stop it, even now while writing and listening I'm crying
This music reminds me of hope lost and hope returned ... it reminds me of life ... thank you!
Walking on anoter world is a great accomplishment, although i think bringing back a stranded crew on a broken spaceship from deep space with almost no chance of survival around the moon and back safely while defying implaccible challenges and glitches along the way, is possibly mankind's greatest achievement.
i think of this song when i get onto the blocks at a swim meet..... just before the buzzer goes off.... i say god, give me strangth..... The buzzer goes BEEEEEEEE.... i dive in, and this song pops into my head...... Im thinking to myself, while i do my 500 yd freestyle..... Damit if thoses apollo guys can survive a trip into space, then i better dam welll be able to do this.... and i did it...... i hit the finish pad... thinking..... i did it.... i acomplished the misson.......
How on Earth did we send humans to the moon and back in the first place, and how did we fuck up so bad they almost died in space and were still floating now, but managed to bring it back...
How on Earth did we send humans to the moon and back in the first place, and how did we fuck up so bad they almost died in space and were still floating now, but managed to bring it back...
It makes me cry that the space program is ending that even though im still pretty young age 14 i will never get the chance to fly a space shuttle or any of that stuff because the program is ending. Thats the only reason i was interested in school,to get a chance to be in the space program, to fly a space craft. My dreams are ruined now. Thanks a lot Bush and Obama.
Don't give up the hope my friend, the times of the Space Shuttle may be over, but the space programm in general is still up and running. Sure it is delayed by budget cuts and many other factors but they haven't given it up yet. If you keep up your dreams and hopes you could be amongst the first to fly the next gen of space craft in the 2020s. The stars are waiting for you!
PS: YOu could read it yourself. There is a Wikipedia article about the Constellation programm, it's in there.
@diazarmy123 Nasa =/= Shuttle Program. They are working on a crew vehicle; and it should be ready in no longer than eight years; though the youngest person to ever fly in space was a 28 year old Russian; and they were notorious for poor safety policies at that time. I don't think there's a single person on the ISS now that's under 40 years old; so things will be very different by the time you're old enough to even touch a space suit; let alone get in one.
@diazarmy123 Nasa is still working on the James Webb Space telescope, they're still discovering new things from the voyager probes, they have exploratory sattelites on venus, the moon, mars, mercury and on earth, they're working on a probe to study Jupiter in depth, the new horizons probe is still en-route to pluto, MSL is set to launch later this year; the shuttle is too big and too expensive, and now that the ISS has been built, its not very useful to us. Its time to move on to better things.
@diazarmy123 Because our country is so much in debt we cannot afford to keep such an expensive program that doesn't give money back in return. We need a president who will deal with the national debt if we're going to keep programs like that running. We need a president who actually takes action and says things like: hmmm... we're trillions in debt... maybe we shouldn't be funding abortions in other countries...
"As for me, those 7 extraordinary days on Apollo 13 were my last in space. I catch myself sometimes looking up to the Moon, remembering the change of fortune in our long voyage, thinking of the thousands of people who worked to bring the three of us home. I look up to the Moon, and wonder, when will we be going back, and who will that be?"
man after watching apollo 13 and balto side-by-side i can hear strong connections and similarites between bits and parts of the films they may be totaly different films but the music is strikingly similer. god i love horner's masterpieces they have emotion and flow to aid with whats going on in the movie! a rare accurance nowadays in movies...sadly :(
Hmm i am disappointed, i downloaded 're-entry and splashdown' from itunes, its great quality but the track starts at like 2:55 on this version, so i miss the whole dramatic music at the beginning :( where did you get this version from?
@opus289 Ah, i notice they have the album version to buy, i'm only after this particular track, ah well i'll just have to listen to it on here everytime, thanks for sharing!
We need to fix our problems here on Earth. We'll go to Mars and once we destroy that planet, we'll move on to the next one. We need to fix our overpopulation problem HERE and get it together.
Great film was just watching it earlier on tv, love Tom Hanks greater actor, the music really makes the films for me! love that music when the command module is breaking through the atmosphere. And.. i have only just realised the number 13...unlucky, how could i not see this before? the amount of time i have overlooked it and suddenly just clicked now lol XD
An outstanding effort of the Crew and all those who brought them back home, but let's not forget all those brave and heroic Astronauts who gave their lives from the beginning right through to the Shuttle missions, to make space travel what it is today.
As a space buff, I already would like this movie without the brilliant music, but this soundtrack is really something brilliant, and is distinctive enough that I remember the movie scenes that went with the music. I can basically listen to the music and watch the movie in my head! Thanks for uploading.
this music remids me of balto ant the perfect storm maybe its cause kevin bacon is the voice of balto and that bell chime sounds like the perfect storm bell
@teletubbykiller23 The reason for that similarity is problably due to a major thing they all have in common: Balto, The Perfect Storm, and Apollo 13 all had their soundtracks composed by James Hourner.
I always cry at movies now, but when I was a kid I never did. Only two movies made me cry: The Lion King (when Mufasa dies and Simba is all alone), and Apollo 13, at about 4:08

amazing movie. most realistic space movie in history. great actors. it amazing how they get up into space. how did mankind figure out how to get to the moon? i guess Nasa is made up of the smartest people. i wish i was an astronaut or even in the space program.
