  • ****Everyone having issues with their teleporters not working, please read this****

    1) Select your trigger_teleport brush entity (The box that's supposed to make you teleport to your destination)

    2) Rick click on it and go to Properties.

    3) Look at the top where there are various tabs, go to Flags.

    4) There should be a list of check boxes, check the Client box if it is not checked already.

    5) Hit apply and export your map and save it. It should now work fine :D

    i have 2, each linking to two different destinations. any help?

  • Hello Vaatrad, I've opened up a friends map to find all the little secrets on it etc. I have found an info_teleport_destination in a secret room, the trouble is that I can't find the trigger that teleports to that destination. I have gone to Map> Entity Report and looked at every trigger_teleport but none of them teleport to this specified destination. Would you have any suggestions as to how I can find this? Thanks in advance

  • I spent ages trying to get the blue textures to work - but.... I am "guessing" they are "effect" textures but and provide other visual or non visual special effects. Some provide watery ripple effect when submerged for instance, other blue ones deliver damage etc. Look at the naming structure of the blue ones. Some end in _beneath & _flow. In LFD2, I don't think they have given us any water textures, just the blue ones.

  • Hello Vattrad. i have a problem with the teleport thing, i make a place ther u will come when i enter the teleport area.

    set him to info_teleport_destination. name = to me.

    then tools/toolstrigger, and do that to trigger_teleport, remote destianation to = to me.

    when i try this nothing happend, i try to jump in to it, walk nothing happends m8 :( can u plz help me out ?

  • Dude! At least put a annotation in your vid to correct yourself! Don't say to noobs, who don't know anything that the grey water textures are the best! They learn from you! THE BLUE TEXTURES ARE THE BEST!!!!!! Your tutorials are good but don't lie! the grey ones run very very fast and are NOT natural at all!!! The blue ones are the best! Dev water 2 is the best! DON'T LIE!!!

  • @XDjohanmystXD I agree, I tried out the blue ones first (anyway, they're normal maps), they work perfectly, and look very realistic, if you have set "reflect all" in the advanced graphical options.

    Im makin my map and when I placed water in the map and I made sure to only put water on the surface it doesnt show up on the surface yet when im in the water, i can see the water but not the surface of the water. im using your recommanded water texture btw.

    I believe this is caused by a leak in your map (covered lightly in Tut. #1), make sure there are no holes in your map leading the black void. Try clicking Map (at the top) > Load pointfile and it should come up with a line pointing to where the hole in your map is. When you fix that one, run your map again (F9) and load the pointfile again. Hope that helps; let me know if it does :)

  • An info_player_start is just a point entity, like a light or a spawn. I'm not sure that a lack of this is really the problem though.

  • @Vaatrad If you took 2 years to solve this problem, then yes, player spawns are needed to spawn.

  • Hammer units, go to the valve developer site, it's something like 1 hammer unit is like 0.873 inches or something.

    i have a big pit, and at the bottom is a teleport

    the teleport works fine and everything...the problem is that when you arrive you are dead from "world" damage cuz of the fall from the pit idk why it does that but its really gay and frustrating and i cant fix it :(

  • So you are killed by the teleport or from a fall?

  • put some water underneath the spot you get teleported to so you dont hit the ground with all that speed

  • change the damage to 200 then set the one under that(something like max damage) to 200 as well or something. i use 200 to make sure ;D

  • how can i make a trigger_hurt to do the entire 100dmg? i set it to 100 but it only does 25dmg at a time.

  • Set the damage well above 100.

  • Use trigger_hurt to do the damage. I'm not sure what to do about the lava bit though.

    You would have to get a custom texture if you want lava in your map because Hammer doesn't already have one. Check out 3kliksphilip on how to create and/or put it in to Hammer. Otherwise just put a floor and put a lot of very small size fires to cover the floor and set the damage or use trigger hurt like Vaatrad said already. The fires aren't recommended though because it may slow down computers a lot depending on how CPU intense they are.

  • It should work the same in Gmod, as far as I know. Do you get any errors in the console?

    Quick checklist:

    - Named the info_teleport_destination.

    - Entered that name as the destination of the trigger_teleport.

    - The trigger_teleport isn't disabled.

  • Is their a way to create a teleporter that will select from multiple destinations at random?

  • Have multiple overlapping trigger_teleports each with a different destination. Have all but the first one disabled.

    Add a logic_timer anywhere in the map. OnTimer have it disable the enabled trigger_teleport and enable a disabled one. Then at a tiny delay, say 0.10, have it disable the currently enabled one and enabled another and so on at increasing delays until all the trigger_teleports have been enabled once. Then set the refire time of the logic_timer appropriately.

    Hopefully it'll work.

  • So, checklist:

    1. The entity is func_breakable_surf.

    2. All but one face has the nodraw texture, the remaining one having the specific special glass texture.

    3. The glass texture isn't horribly stretched or anything like that.

    4. There aren't problems with lighting/shadows in the map.

    Got all of those?

  • Well, not having any light or windows in the room will do it. Some light might creep in through the doorway but you can get round that with a dark corridor of some length or that has a bend in it.

  • The texture browser should let you select other textures. It should be on the right.

  • It should be to the limits of the grids. Also check though that the maps isn't leaking or has things falling out of it.

  • Just after I placed some water in my map and I tried to test the map CS:S will no longer load the map. Could the water have caused this? Also since my pool has a ramp down to make it deeper I just made one big black brush of water texture with some water floating in free space under the pool. Could that be the problem? If so how can I shape the water to slant down with the pool?

  • Well I took the water texture block out and it still has the load problem, so now I am stumped as to what could cause it to not load in CS:S anymore.

  • Look at the compile log or the console in CSS for error messages.

  • I just arranged four brushes to leave a hole. And added a fifth brush to cover the bottom of the hole.

  • well, you start with humans at the spawn points, (CT and terrorist, but they are unable to kill eachother) then you run away, but when you stand on this one place, a door opens, or a truck starts moving, and you need to get on, there are also breakable things, these things are all over the map, and you need too get too the end so you activate a bomb who kills everyone ecept the people on the end

  • You can open the door with a trigger, use func_breakable for the breakable things, and use a button and trigger_hurt for the bomb. Maybe also add an ambient_generic for the bomb sound. Tut.13 covers buttons and trigger and I/O.

  • And how do I make things move, like when you step in that area, a car oves 50 yards forward, then oves right for 20 yards and....

  • and also, how do i make timers, like when you step on that place, over 20 seconds a door opens? and how do i make lifts, and ground who looks natural, by roundings and stuff

  • You can have delays to make doors open by adding a delay to the output from a trigger. Tut.14 covers natural looking terrain. Lifts and cars following paths I don't know enough about to help you.

  • You need to click the tool which appears as a cube with brick-green-blue faces to be able to select individual brush faces. Tut.6 covers this if you can't work it out.

    when i make my water it is invisible when i play my map but i can still go in it and then i see the water, but when i return to the surface it looks like im walking on air???

    Another thing is a question about guns (i saw tutorial 8) how do i make it so when i set the player equip box to just knifes at start that you can keep your guns from last round because if i live i respawn with just a knife???

  • As regards the water:

    - Check that the map isn't leaking.

    - Check that the lighting is ok.

    - Try adding a water_lod_control anywhere in the map.

    - Try adding an env_cube map a little above the surface of the water, entering its properties and 'Picking' the water textured face in the 3D camera view.

    As regards equiping weapons, try using a logic_auto to Kill the game_player_equip OnNewGame.

  • If you want unbreakable glass for the door you just use a glass texture. If you want breakable glass you need to name the door and enter that name into the Parent keyvalue of the breakable glass.

    i made a room with glass floor and granades in it.... at start i need like mover around room and shoot some of the glass and only then i can take like the 1st nade and teleport works.....

    any ideas y is it like that now???

    ahh and BTW i need to make ct's and t's spawn WITHOUT A WEPON only with knifes, how do i make that??

  • Have you tried getting the teleporter to work in a different map? Perhaps the glass is interferring with it, I'm not sure.

    See Tut.8 for how to use the game_player_equip entity.

  • hey, i made the teleport and destination and it works fine, i also have granades at floor but i can take the granades and use the teleport only like after 30 secs after round start....

    how can i make it to work without waitig??

  • I'm not sure what is causing that. There shouldn't be any reason for the teleporter to not work for the first 30s.

  • hey been using your tutorials and they are extremely usefull thnx, but when i create water the texture shows up in hammer but in game it is completely invisible, if it is touching the floor or a wall then i can see through the brush completely. it also doesnt splash when a player lands in the water or shoots it, but it works fine on my brothers computer. what it wrong?

  • Check that your map isn't leaking and that the lighting and shadows are working. Check that the water texture is only applied to the top face of the brush and that the nodraw texture is applied to the other faces. If that's fine add a water_lod_control to the map. If that doesn't work add an env_cubemap a little above the water's surface and in it's properties 'Pick' the water textured face of the brush in the 3D camera view.
