The U.S suffered quite a few political defeats ( American public loses faith in the war) during the cold war but they never actually lost a battle in Vietnam. One more thing makes the FFL tougher than any fighting forces in the world is they fight without massive fire support, look at how US Army or US Marine fight, they are supported very well by massive fire power from the Airforce and the Navy, The Legion is lack of that kind of fire support, a massive one, but they still fight well, still kick a lot of asses, their basic training is 4 months long, the USMC is 3 and the US Army is 2,5, and FFL boot camp is tougher than those of the US Army or USMC.
@TQLCVNCH how can any modern army expect to win without fire support? say what you want about toughness and training but the US army or USMC would kick there asses just cause of the heavy fire support. U.S throughout history hasn't ever really had the toughest troops in any of the major conflicts, yet they were able to overcome better trained and tougher troops because of their incredible capacity for combined arms. Naval, aerial, and ground support fire is what makes an army in this era.

Americans defeated?
Americans have never suffered a modern military defeat in the truest sense. What you are talking about are political defeats. The U.S suffered quite a few political defeats ( American public loses faith in the war) during the cold war but they never actually lost a battle in Vietnam. And as for Korea the U.N ( many nations not just the U.S) actually achieved their mission in removing the north Korean invaders from the south. It was never to conquer the North.

One more thing makes the FFL tougher than any fighting forces in the world is they fight without massive fire support, look at how US Army or US Marine fight, they are supported very well by massive fire power from the Airforce and the Navy, The Legion is lack of that kind of fire support, a massive one, but they still fight well, still kick a lot of asses, their basic training is 4 months long, the USMC is 3 and the US Army is 2,5, and FFL boot camp is tougher than those of the US Army or USMC.

@TQLCVNCH how can any modern army expect to win without fire support? say what you want about toughness and training but the US army or USMC would kick there asses just cause of the heavy fire support. U.S throughout history hasn't ever really had the toughest troops in any of the major conflicts, yet they were able to overcome better trained and tougher troops because of their incredible capacity for combined arms. Naval, aerial, and ground support fire is what makes an army in this era.

@TheProjektcc Speaking from personal experience you learn from the mistakes of your predecessors and learn to counter act. Not ranting though of course but history is also there as a lesson, not just to look at it and hmm an arr over what was done and what wasn't

@joshcboy I'm afraid our Legion isn't the only elite in the world, there also exist the famous Spetsnaz (the toughest training program in the world), the SEALS, the green berets, and probably some spec ops the public doesn't even know.

@scratzin so basically you don't understand anything about the legion. it's not famous for its victories but for the fighting spirit and the bravery of its soldiers. Even if they lost several battles, they kept fighting. Nobody cares that they are foreigners or not, they are ready to fight and die for France, that's it

Let us say, you have 5000 troops to fight against about 1500 Legionnaires, before you can wipe out 1500 Legionnaires, you will lose about 4500 men of your force. Dont mess with the Legion.

The French flags waved at the same time upon Berlin, Moscow, Madrid, Vienna, Rome... We're not talking about slaughtering primitive tribes, here, but about real warfare, against real countries. This is something Britain never experienced : conquering a civilised nation. BTW, France expulsed Britain from both American (Yorktown) and European (100YW) mainlands, and that wasn't under Napoleon. And France was mostly alone unlike Britain who never fight without huge coalition.
