Rare? Single artist.....female....mid eighties progressive. That's uncommon. And she wasn't affecting anything. This wasn't a conscious attempt to be radical, progressive, or artsy in any way. She admits to a conscious stab at being more avant-garde than her previous lps in a bid to break her own mold, but that's a big difference from being weird-for-weird's sake. This album was the one that kinda freaked out Brits, and America liked it. Go figure.
it's moving, that final hee-haw its freezing. I don't know if i'm wrong or right but i've always listened to this song as a metaphor for a rape, or for a general situation of a forced relationship.
This its Bjork want to reach, i love her, but she even with her last album Biophilia cant get that sense of editorial album that she was looking for, and look at this, without super apps and stuff its beyond this universe, nobody can reach the craziness and "Alternativeness" of this gem of album.
@westchile Agree partially, but it gets a bit inaccurate to say that THIS is what Björk is reaching for. Though this album is one of Björk's favourites, it is merely inspiration, as for many other artists (This record and Kate's career is really important for many musicians ;) IMO, Björk succeeds with her quirky sound, in her artistic way, then again, I love this album, too
The whole of The Dreaming is just amazing: layer upon layer of ideas, energy, experimentation and character-driven, cinematic intensity with Kate's incredible voice and complete disregard for fashion or being cool. No other artist has ever come to close to this and when she starts whispering and screaming at the end of this song I am eternally grateful for the places she takes me. Let me in!
My friend and I were blasting this in her car on Halloween on our way to a Haunted House...best day ever. Everyone on the street looked horrified. Amazing. (sigh) I love Kate Bush. : )
Must admit that - despite Director's Cut out now - I long for the days when weird and immensely creative albums like The Dreaming just kept coming from Kate - it seemed that there was just so much for her to draw upon back then... How strong and unique her first albums were! SO incredibly intense and loaded with ideas and experimentation... so incredibly refreshing that was. We raise our hearts to the strange phenomena... For me The Dreaming is DISTILLED ENERGY!
Kate Bush is the best female musical artist of ALL time.A total visionary. Haunting melodies and words that only someone with her skills could write.AMAZING.

I love this tune. This makes me relax and keeps me calm.Excellent and noble voice and cute singing is worth while listening all day long.I listen to this with my love in my date....
When I bought this album at the age of 14 back in 1983, I was shocked and appalled. This was not "my kind of Kate Bush"... but it quickly grew on me, and it's my all time favourite album. What a masterpiece... and... LISTEN TO HER VOICE! It always goes right into my blood! (love the 3:15 and onwards dialogue...)
@pulloutthepin I brought the dreaming in 83 as well, listerned to it on the way home from the shops, in the back of my parents car. Thank you sony walkman. It was the hardest of her albums to get in too, but the one that has stuck with me the most. I love every track and when its played complete, its just perfect.
This, Pull Out The Pin and Leave It Open are three of the best songs i've ever heard in my entire life

Can't dig it. Way too White. The opera effect doesn't work for me. EeEeEeEeEeEeE. Why is it that Euro-folk can be so dismal?

@curbish025 Oh I absolutely love this song. Its my favourite on Kates 'The Dreaming'. How could you call it dismal???

That scream in the distance tugs my chest. So disturbing. Kate really puts you in the position of whoever she sings about.
