  • is that a swift??

  • dont drop ur child

  • how did u injure the burd

  • At first I thought you'd test your daughter's head tracking. lol

  • Thanks for sharing this video... :) your little girl is so cute... :)

  • so this means alot of birds have this gyroscope neck thing

  • Thought it said "...see the video where daddy made me..."

  • Your daughter just totally made my day!

  • i wonder if it's because some birds can't move their eyes. we can move our heads and body to a degree and keep our eyes focus on an object, so i guess in order for a bird to do that they have to keep their entire head steady. that's my guess anyways. sure is interesting how they pull it off though.

  • shut up and listen to your datter

  • @MsKattypie Don't be stupid. You can tell by the way he acts with her that he's a good dad. He's just making a video. So shush, you.

#1. Your daughter is SO CUTE! She had me cracking up from the first time she said "Daddy! Daddy! Daddy! .... bird".

#2. That bird is so adorable. I just want to reach into the computer screen and cuddle with it :)

  • @MsKattypie I'm assuming you've never had kids?

  • It's pretty clear to me!

  • your handsome, love your dimples :)

  • Sadie is so cute! I think she likes birds, my good sir.

  • Did the Purple Martin recover?

  • @Sonyag1

Sadly, no. We called a local animal rescue center but the bird died before we were able to deliver it.

  • @destinws2 thats really sad =(

  • @destinws2 ;(

  • Ha ha! Gave me such a good laugh. Too funny :D

  • Dude, I can't even say those words and I'm 23 years old.

  • Man, Sadie has always been so freaking smart.

  • How do you know all of this?

  • nice birdy it looks calm

  • Birds can't move their eyes in their sockets, so they need to keep their entire heads stable as humans do with just their eyes. There's your explanation.

  • @BirdValiant

Watch my chicken powered steadicam video and see the eye movement at 36 seconds

  • @destinws2 Their eyes may be capable of some slight amount of movement, but not enough to survey the environment. The reason for this is that birds' eyes are not spherical like mammals.

Instead, they must move their entire heads and stabilize it in the same way that we stabilize our eyeballs.

  • @destinws2

    uhm it just blinked...

  • @destinws2 What he said is partly right. Many birds have bad eye movement and a bad vision. If they move their head they only perceive blurred images. To avoid this they try to keep the head as stable as possible as long as they can because only in this position they see clear images. Also the typical nod of the head(which it isnt, its more that the body follows the head) is result of this.

  • Oh my god, its like a Red Alert 2 turret!

  • This solid head must have something to do with how their brains process flight.

  • west nile virus. hahaha

  • Probably assists when flying 'cause flying would jerk their body around a lot so the stablization is hardwired into them.

  • LMAO.

"Sadie, can you say 'mutually orthogonal'?"

    "murturay."

    "Yes, very good."

    Hahaha, cute :)

  • You are an awesome Dad,=]

  • Chicken Head is etter for stabilizing because has a longer neck

  • Anyone else think that this guy looks like a white version of Tay Zonday? O_o

  • not rell

  • omg i loved it when you asked your daughter to say that long word for the second time and she looked at you and smiled the way she did!! Oh my god it was so cute

    ^-^

  • dad dad dad dad dad dad...

    bird

  • lol its r2d2

  • The mosquito was getting revenge for the thousands of its fellows the martin had taken out.

  • "Daddy, daddy, daddy" "What?" "Bird!" OMG soooooooooooooooooooooooooo cute **

It's like the family guy episode when Stewie call the mom and when she finally answer he says just: "Hi!" :D

  • That's so cool! That's awesome that you shared this!

  • Aw, your daughter is such a sweetie!

    "Can you say 'mutually orthogonal?'"

    "... :D"

"Yeah, she's working on differential equations right now."

    LOL!

  • What a beautiful bird. Oh, the kid's cute too.

  • I think you should hold Sadie and see if she can do the same thing with her head! LOL! Just kidding... dude, very cute video. I like y'all's accent!

  • R.I.P little bird.... ;(

  • aww poor bird died :'(

  • LOL i find the baby funny

  • your daughter is so adorable!

    "daddy, daddy, daddy..bird." haha!<3

  • looks like a little hawk

  • No its not

  • Are you raising a rocket scientist? Good for you if you are.

  • I'm surprised that the bird just sat on you finger and didn't try to at least escape. He seemed content just to sit there.

  • What a beautiful bird -- I hope it heals back to full health! Nice of you to take care of it and way to show your cute daughter all the cool things about nature at a young age. Nice videos & great info! Keep posting!

  • 'Mutually Orthogonal' yeah, i can say it~

  • that mosquito is the best part

  • that is cool ...

  • I would like to hold a purple martin, they are so beautiful!!

  • cool

  • You are ace :)

  • "Daddy, daddy, daddy!"

  • BOATS & HOES!

  • Sir, may i inform you that you are full of PURE WIN!

  • lol

  • Allready dad?

  • oops, the third one was added after I switched to your homepage. So just don't mind the mistakes above. :P

  • I was attracted by the Chicken Head Tracking video which I saw it on animation blog (yeah,I'm an artist) at first. Then I saw this. 2 Things impressed me most:

    1. A Great daddy, nice and intelligent! not to mention having such a cute little girl well behaved(I saw many kids hurt animals before).

    2. I can tell you really felt sorry for the poor little bird and do the best you could. That's touchy.

    3. All the Rocket Scientists(haha) and who always hold a dream about being astronaut ROCK!!!

  • that's so wild! who knew!

  • Sorry I meant to reply to mymuzack I love animals.

  • I hope you love birds and all animals

  • This isn't CGI. At least if it is CGI it is a masterful job. The feather detail is great, especially if you consider the tuft of feathers sticking out around 1:06. The bird is more focused and clearer because it is a different distance to the camera than the others. If they are using a flip camera, you get a better picture closer up than further back so that would make sense.

I liked the video, entertaining and informative. Nice job.

  • wow you must live through life like that mymuzack, sucks to be you.

  • like what? being observant?

  • mymuzack you aren't observant, you're a conspiracy theory-addicted freak. that's two different things.

  • That isn't CG. Go find a chicken, pick it up and do the same thing for yourself. It's pretty funny to watch, but this is definitely real. Most birds do this.

  • You have google at your fingertips and some how you still manage to show your ignorance.

  • Go screw yourself.

  • Dude it's weird. Stable head but moving body. I tried to do it but it's imposible for humans :)

By the way, she is so cute.

    daddy daddy daddy... bird !

  • Destin, you're a good father. Enough said.

  • Daddy! Daddy! Daddy! Daddy!.......... Bird.

  • i love the martens if he wasn't hurt the squeto would have been out of there. god bless.

  • A vet once told me that birds that are PREDATORS have less of a chance of surviving a wing injury than do domestic fowl. This still applies even when they are quickly brought into professional care facilities. I'm not exactly sure why.

Over the years, I've had several domestic fowl who easily recovered from wing injuries. But the ones I've had who were predators(one was a hawk and the other an owl)died soon afterward, even though BOTH seemed to be initally making a swift recovery.

  • Looks like a chimney swift or swallow.

Cute wee thing. What was the prognosis on this bird? Looks like a female to me.

But yeah, I have pet birds and they have an amazing sense of head-steady movement.

They're amazing little creatures. Cute video! Would like to know how the wee gal made out.

  • what's with your video and the animals dying after :(

  • oh your baby is so so sweet and adorable and cute!!!!! Dady ...dady..dady.......dady...

  • Southern accents are absolutely amazing. I need a girlfriend with one.

  • Thats very noble of you!

most people would have left it to die.

    good on ya mate!

lol, you sould name him turtle.

  • daddy bird!!!!! hahahahaha

    she´s so pretty

  • oh man, i suggest u stay away from birds

  • Daddy! Daddy! Daddy! Daddy!.... Bird.

  • cool videos

  • i like him,,,,,,he should be called turtle

  • turtle!?

    lol

  • yessss that or ummmm martin lol

  • aint that a wild bird? why is it staying on ur hand? how come it trust u so much, if i go near a wild bird they fly awaay

  • well one of its wings are hurt so i think that has something to do with it.

  • oh really? I C

  • animals that are near death, or see death coming don't struggle as much. thats why when a lion jumps on a baby lamb, the lamb just falls right over, not because its dead, because it know is screwed.

  • It's injured. He can't fly.

  • Also INTERESTING and you're kid is adorable!!! =)

  • Keep the bird !West nile puts some in the hospital for weeks and some just think they have the flu.

Oh and some die but you might also know 35 K die of the flu and most people do not take the vacination?

  • haha, differential equations

this and the chicken video are both soo cool!

  • wtf that bird must have balls of steal to stay there like that either that or ur made of pure magic

  • haha your doughter is working on differential equations?! man that a little Einstein there ;)

  • cute kid, she reminds me of my daughter at that age. she actually said "mutually" lol.

  • No joke! This guy is like an animal whisperer, I don't know how he does it.

  • That is just amazing, but all the poor birds died! Nooo :(

  • I havent read all the comments, but surely i'm not the only person wondering why this bird will sit still on his finger!!? If I hit a wild bird out in the country, I doubt it would just sit there wounded and let me twirl it around in front on an excitable toddler! What's the deal with this and the chicken video? Why are these birds so placid around you? Perhaps you should make a video about your bird taming skills!

    Love the videos, btw. :)

  • That Girl Can Solve Differential Equations?...LoL!!

  • fire cracker in my mouth ->> hospital

    ^^

    /watch?v=mpDiSHXiD8s&feature=channel

  • Suuure... "accident"

You just wanted a follow up video.

  • birds+babies=comedy! :D

  • so cute and patient w the baby and nice to the poor bird

  • Where do you live!? Paradice?

  • my condolences for the bird

  • :))

  • why does the bird trust you?

  • this guy is great, wouldnt you trust him?

  • would love to find a guy like him lol

  • he probably doesnt want to eat it. and maybe the chicken picked up on that.

  • shes working on differential equations

    lol

been there, done that, no fun

  • I don't know how you do it. Animals are usually scared of me.

  • What a cool little bird! What kind is it?

  • eggmok was probably a whiny little kid

  • Poor eggmok...I understand. Kid energy is only for those who can handle it. I must admit to being one of the ones with limited ability to handle kids, but for me she was cute and very normal. No screeching, just being with her dad. Cool.

  • xD Lmao! "daddy daddy daddy

    yes mam

    burd! (bird)

  • when birds fly, their body moves up and down so fast opposite to the movement of the wings.

wings go up - body goes down.

so the head must be stable unless they wont be able to see anything.

I once saw a film on national geographic where they placed a camera on the head of the birds and u cant believe how fast they fly.

  • their ability to keep their heads stable is one of the main factors in their ability to fly.

  • lol geek

  • I bet that whole head tracking thing helps them fly through tree limbs. Imagine birds with our directional glands, they would be crashing all over the place! Cool videos!

    daddy daddy... bird!!! lol

  • Very cute and amazing vid as well as the chicken head one, also your kid is super lovely~

  • Do you work at Redstone?

  • mutually orthogonal...... I love it!

  • Good job trying to nurse that bird.

Some people would have just left it to die

    :(

  • That's really impressive. I was going to ask what your degree was, but I see on your channel that you're a mechanical engineer. Awesome.

Very interesting videos, and your kid is super cute too.

  • Thanks bro!

  • That sounds like real fun, at least it sounds like it :P

  • "oh daddy daddy... bird!" :D

  • do you work in some kind of guidance related field? Raytheon missile manufacture or some such?

  • yes it's a bird~~~~~~~~~~

  • Daddy.. daddy .. lol, how cute ^_^

  • By the way, your baby is sooooo cute!!!!

    You will be good father.

  • aww poor birdie

  • lol I think your child get 90% of the viewr's attention! She's so funny "daddy, daddy, daddy" xD u're a great father by the way, congratulations ;)

  • your kid is awesome. Raise her well!

  • Thank you for the nice comment. I try to be a good dad but fail at it every day!

  • noooop. I am a father too. I hope I am nice to my doughter like you. keep up the good work. and if you visit korea, let me know.

  • can you say.... mutually orthogonal?

    i can't even spell it!

  • DADDY DADDY DADDY BIIIIIIRD! ^^ love it.

  • You're getting your ass kicked by someone who can't be over 3 years old! Nice vid again, but... MURDERER!! Just kidding, sorry to hear the little bugger didn't make it. Looks so cute and fuzzy :( Cute and fuzzy stuff is not supposed to die.

  • Your little girl is so cute!!!!!! Shame about the bird though :(

  • I like your interaction with your little girl ... you include her in your activity unlike some people who might require silence. She'll grow up intelligent and well adjusted. (-: Sorry to hear the birdy died ... poor little thing.

  • he died? should have brought him to the bird vet or shelter instead of keeping it. They would have at least put it to sleep or something if it was gravely injured.

  • I did contact my regions "Wildlife Rehabilitator" who had an expertise in small birds. She gave me instructions and informed me my chances of success were slim.

  • Those two videos are quite fascinating, and your kid is cute, reminds me of my 7 year old when she was this small.
