I think that he might be very off. Myself and all friends I have observed (opposite of our parents) take more of a mindset of "screw the parties, they mean nothing". While I personally was listening to campaigns, I remained totally oblivious to who was from what party. It wasn't until the final days of the election could I tell, with the heavily color-coded maps plastered everywhere.
If a party is supposed to summarize beliefs, and people within the party have different beliefs, why bother?
That's how I see it too, the party system is really stupid, people should vote for what they believe in not vote because they are part of the "team" mentality. Same thing with people who vote based on race, gender, and things that are non related to politics or the ideas the person stands for...
Ron Paul in 2012! (If the United States of America still exists then...)
Well I'm white and I voted for Obama, but IMO it's completely understandable when a black votes for a black or a woman votes for a woman president. This would've been the first time a VP or a black person would've been that high in office... it's a big deal. People grew up or are growing up where race and gender are still to this day not equal. It's something most people won't understand.
i love the old person they filmed lol

You dont neet a political scientist. South Park had it all figured out, 25% of Americans are retards. That's why we have 911 truthers.

The time period effect and life cycle effect both seem to lack substantial proof beyond speculation and don't account for paradigm shifts.
Gardner discounting 1/3rd of the base up front as a margin of error doesn't lend much in favor of this analysis either.
And of course there are obvious examples that counter the general assumptions made as well.
But as "just tendencies" these notions are interesting to consider, yet simply unproven as tendencies in the general sense.
