C-141B is an awesome aircraft. The reason they got rid of them is because the C-141 cargo bay is one pallet wide. The C-17 cargo hold is the same length as that of the C-141B, but is TWO pallets wide. They also eliminated the flight engineer crew position with the C-17. I did Guidance and Control electronic maintenance on C-141B's at McChord.

I heard someone say that a C-17 was packed like sardines with jumpers, not true, the 141 was the bird that you got packed in like a sardine! ha ha.

Looks like "no hope Pope" or "Fayette-Nam" loadup. I used to laugh at the Army commercials that said "Be all you can be by 9 am", where the MAC aircrews were airborne at 1am to get them over the drop zone!
