@doublebassheeltoe Yeah, they are competition but its also BD throws stuff on the field that is near impossible to judge, and they have clean hands. Safely said the percussion can get raped on score but their band, not so much. "Unjudgeable crap" is what I've heard said about their shows.

They got like fourth in drums in 2010 and won drums in 2009 solely because they were the only corps to effectively and seamlessly integrate electronics under the 09 rules into their show. 07 is debatable, I'd probably give 2007 to Blue Devils as far as drums goes. Then any year 06 and prior is still good in my book. Nowadays, though, it's all "uncleanable crap".

@samg701 i no longer consider the blue devils an american drum corps since they are now working with the japanese. its WW2 for drum corps now. if anything scott johnson shoou;dve switched to innovative percussion or silverfox percussion anything but pro mark and pearl. although pearl does make decent and affordable drums.

@drums4694 Marching percussion is more rudimental drumming than "grooving". Although SCV has some pretty groovy exercises, their show music is usually far from it. Along with most other drumlines.

I just believe that SCV possesses a certain kind of style that BD just lacks. I don't like BD because they just sound like they're playing a billion notes per second for the hell of it. In my musical experience I feel that playing a bunch of notes is cool but playing something that one could comprehend and that is appropriate for the music is another.
