  • bob ross copy cat son of a bitch

  • I've heard that you never want to start painting on white canvas, because it can make you colors look really saturated, and that you should always paint on top of a neutral color. Is that true?

  • 57 people accidentally hit the dislike button.

  • Great job mister! Thank for sharing these lessons. :)

  • After witnessing the end result of every step, I went "Unbelievable!"

You make it seem so simple, and it all turns out so brilliant.

  • Bob Ross u are not

  • Man! That's really not that hard!!! Gonna try it after exams :D

  • @TheDroLife im voting on the aliens because i know that is the most impossible thing ever and the brush strands are more likley to be the thing but still i vote that it was aliens!

  • Omg he sounds like Forest Gump O_O

  • What type of brush are you using?

  • i love you :)

  • lol did anyone else see that thing fly off in the right corner at 1:25 - 1:28 ????

  • 1:27 WHATWASTHAT?!!!

It wasn't just me right? XD

  • @XxKitsuneHeartxX think someone at the back threw a pen or somethnig

  • thin white medium? is that gesso ?

  • does any one else notice that the cloud looks like some sort of battle angel charging?

  • @theARTofLIFEbyME

I always see some sort of cartoonish dinosaur.

  • nice, good lesson, make me want to paint, all videos in you tube should educate like this.

  • This guy is Cleveland Brown's white cousin :D. Great vid!

  • hey people, can you tell me, how to clean the oil, after using another color when painting?

  • @zerik12 you can use thinner, or just wipe the paint out with a paper towel.

  • @creativecolour many thanks :D

  • @zerik12 wash your brushes with turpentine

  • How'd you get it so thin and watercolor looking? (the sky)

Mine goes on really thick and doesn't spread well.

  • @Peanut7602 what paint are you using?

  • @creativecolour Oil?It's by Reeves.

  • Lukas Studio oils

  • @Peanut7602 i use a medium underneath

  • "You got to talk quit..... It helps." This video has inspired me like Ross use to when I was a kid.

  • nice

  • Dear Michael, I just wanted to say THANK YOU EVER SO VERY MUCH! I`m drawing with pencils ever since I was a little kid, but I never used colors. a few years back, I found this video on youtube and watched it several times. you made painting look so easy- so I had to try. I realy did try, and today, thanks to you I`m painting with oil paints (I even saled some of my paintings) so once again- thank you very much for driving me into this.

    Dor.

  • @duieb Thank you For the great comment .

  • THANK YOU for posting a how to video, i haven't been able to find any good ones from start to finish and i like your style a little more!

  • haha rednecks and renaissance... lulz

  • Are you going to post more start to finish videos? If so The reason for my asking I love to watch oil painting get painted on YouTube as a form of relaxing and education.

Please put up more start to finish videos so more people can get educated.

  • Can I use Acrylic paint for this?

  • WOW I LOVE IT....he's fab. Wouldn't mind a lesson from him.

  • What's you opinion on water soluble oil paint? My family can't stand turpentine but I don't want to sacrifice quality. What are your thoughts?

  • @Ydouneed2nomyname water mixable oils are a good alternative but have you tried a product like turpenoid or any turpentine substitute that is odorless?

    Michael

  • @creativecolour Not as of right now. I hear they still have a weird smell, but I guess its still worth tryin'. Thanks!

  • @Ydouneed2nomyname I use Turpenoid and I can't smell any kind of odor but that's just me everyone is different.

  • @creativecolour ok thanks for the tip!

  • @creativecolour Hi nice video yeah I Noticed that you used a.Vandyke brown'?I never come across that colour ,is it somethimg like burnt or Raw Umber? thanks

  • How do you clean your brushes? Oil paint will not come off my brushes no matter what I do.

  • @alyssaRlopez personally I use a product by Weber called Turpenoid but any artist grade mineral spirits will work. oil will only dilute with mineral spirits or paint thinner use in a well ventilated area.

    Michael

  • @creativecolour : I just found a product called "Bristle Magic" on Amazon which does an amazing job of cleaning brushes. It's eco-friendly, non-toxic, doesn't smell and I'm using it like turp. So far I like this much better than hazardous materials, even the odorless mineral spirits. Paint on!

  • Respond to this video... Thanks for the video. It's a challenge to find good teaching videos for beginners. Most of the demo videos don't give much instruction on loading up the paint, how to use the brushes properly and the why of things. Thank you.

  • @alyssaRlopez yea use mineral spirits then i use murphy's oil soap. it cleans my brush and makes it look like new!

  • I suck at painting but I'm good at drawing

    Weird mix eh

  • is there away i can use these techniques with acrylics

  • i miss bob ross but since i found you on youtube i will take your lessons.are you on tv

  • you make it look soo easy! amazing work

  • Wow, you're really good. Thank you for sharing and teaching.

  • so before you started painting you applied a white coating on the canvas?

  • Hi,, Sir Michael, im bryan from philippines, i have been used oil paints on my paintings but is it okay if i use oil tinting colors for woods?... please tell me what kind of oil paints you use..

    thanks,

    bryan

  • BOB ROSS LIVES!!!!

  • can I use water as a base? I don't have any expeience with oil painting...at all.....

  • @ElenaSaxena : No, you'd use oil for oil base paints, hence the "oil base" in the name.

  • Thanks for making painting look so easy! Have enjoyed learning from you. What is the best way to clean oil paint out of brushes? I scanned the comments, sorry if this is a repeat question...did not find your answer. Not sure about Mediums, too. Is it oil paint just painted all over? Or some other type of substance? Very new to this hobby, but trying very hard to be a success!

  • you don't need to use water??

  • @PrinceOF9Imagination

Why do you need water? To take a bath?

  • Wow your techniques are very cool! a lot of help for someone that wants to improve paining techniques! :)

  • Do you do a white base coat to give yourself a smooth surface to paint on?

  • @dag04211995 no the white base coat is to make the canvas wet so the paint will slide and move and blend easier on the canvas I do not let the canvas dry before I start painting.

    Regards,

    Michael

  • I really like the clouds in this episode - they have a lot of interest. *thanks for sharing*

  • I was wondering, what's the difference in acrylic and oil paint? Thanks. :)

  • are you from texas? :)

  • Hi Michael!!! I was wondering what kind of paints you use , like brand?? You are a great artist and teacher! Thx for the vids!!

  • @creativecolour

i use oil paints, but they take sooo long to dry. i recently painted a background in a picture and when i tried to paint the rest in, it would just blend because the paint was too wet i had to wait a few days for it to dry.. is it just that im using too much paint on my brush? what am i doing wrong?

  • @amandapanderp I paint wet on wet layered technique here is a tip make sure your colour that is going on top of the colour that is still wet is thinned down slightly, if that does not work or you want the under color to be dry try using a medium called Japan Dryer mixed in your colour it will make the oil paint dry very quickly, but be aware wash out your brush immediately after use or it will damage your brush if it dries in it.

    Regards,

    Michael

  • @creativecolour

I just started oil paints too, and have the same problem as amandapanderp. How do you thin down the paint? I'm only 13 but clearly love painting and I would just like to paint nicely without getting frustrated because of blended paint.

    thanks,

    Arianna

  • @amandapanderp Oil paints in theory never dry.

  • @amandapanderp Go out and buy some Linseed oil if you dont already have some and paint thinner. Mix Equal parts of both of them and that should help!

  • @amandapanderp too much paint on surface orf too much oil

  • Hello Michael!

First of all, I have to tell you that you're a wonderful teacher and an even better artist!

I just started with oil paintings and I would like to ask you a question:

Let's say I want to do a sketch on the canvas, before I start with the oil paint - what should I use for the sketching?

I think about regular pencils or an oil pastel colour for the draws - but I'm afraid they're perhaps not meant for that purpose. Are they okay or is there something else I should use? :|

    Thanks!

  • @OctopuPilot Hi good question, I use a 2h sketch pencil let me say I don't think a regular pencil would hurt anything, from my experience oil paint when it is dry it is pretty tough. just to let you know I have used a regular pencil before remember a artist sometimes has to use all that's available to him or her, but the oil pastel might be a bad choice because of the bond to the surface.

    hope this helps

    regards,

    Michael

  • u sure need alot of patients

  • nice,,,,, ! :))

    \

  • Please grow an afro and keep a squirrel in your pocket. THANKS!

  • @arvetis could not help but smile when i read this, this is funny clean humor. thanks for the laugh.

    Regards,

    Michael

  • :0

  • you take so long time , I bet it can be all drawn in way less time

  • @TheCleopatra46 It's not about the destination, it's about the journey. People don't paint so they can hang a pretty picture. People paint because it's a hobby, it's enjoyable, and regardless of whether it takes 1 hour or 3 days, it's all about the experience. Take your time, you'll enjoy your art more.

  • @LU74AG yeah totally agree- but the point is my internet is damn slow and need to see it all

  • someone please help me with the brushes :)))

  • you're awesome mr.michael - I am learing from u :) :) best wishes

  • Hi Michael

I am trying to teach myself to oil paint but one problem I have is how much oil I shud be using to mix the colors...it appeared like u maintained a light consistency for the sky and thicker for the trees...

    Thanks :)

  • thanks for the video i just have a qs can i oil paint in a jeans instead of canvas

    thanks

  • phenomenal.how it goes from simple to complez.....

  • I have always used acrylic paints. as soon as you started laying on the blue I said omg I love oils! Im really excited to try them out now!

  • Excellent tutorial! Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge and experience.

  • lovely calm and informative teaching, thanks!!

  • Im very good at drawing but still learning how to get my painting skills up, I find painting a hard skill to perfect

  • Do you have any videos on how to clean oil paint out of brushes?

  • explained in very simple terms .... tooooooo good for beginners !

  • I kno it wouldn't exactly look the same, but could I get the same effect with acrylics?

  • @TheAaronbarger

Yes, you can. It might be easier if you will use drying retarder.

  • This was so helpful! Was the canvas prepped with the titanium white paint or primer?

  • Great painting

  • hmm he need tempertine or what ever it called on eng for the arting

  • dear Michael,

my grandfather painted like 20 years ago, and now i want to learn how to paint with oil colers. so i asked him how but he doesen't remember, the only thing that he did remember is that you need to mix the colers with somthing , i dont know..

so i was wondering if you can explain it for me,

    -Adi :)

  • @popupsweet21 solvent

  • Oh my Goodness, I love his accent. I am learning with a smile!

  • Thank you so much for this video! Your painting is absolutely beautiful, and it was extremely helpful for me!

  • Nice painting and good skills, good teaching

  • This makes it look so easy!

  • makes me miss bob ross! thanks for the painting

  • You're SO fun and laid back about it... I'm very much so a beginner and this video was VERY helpful..thank you!

  • That is like.. magic.

  • Bob Ross used to say "Let this happen", way back in his early seasons. I would accuse you of ripping him off except that the familiarity of his style (and Bob Alexander's) is such that I enjoy watching spin-offs of it, I suppose.

  • Looks a lot like Bob Ross. Great video, btw!

  • Thank you!!

  • its great and creative.

  • i have a question. I'm new to oil painting and I'm very confused about how to use mediums. are the paints on the palette straight out of the tube or mixed with the medium? or do you dip the brush in medium?

  • so chill haha

  • Love his rapport with the audience. Thank you!

  • wonderful job

  • wonderful job

  • Ok, thank you for that answer! I am creating a painting at the moment and I was looking for someone to show me some tricks. You gave me quite a few in this series of youtube lessons! (I am new at this). :) My son is in love with dragons and I thought that I'd paint him one. This time I know to use the linseed oil to make the paint more easy to use, you taughtme that! Thanks!

    /theGoat.

  • Hi there Mr Artist! :) Just one thought: When there's a cut in the recording, for how long do you pause/wait before continueing with the painting? Do you allow every section you paint to dry before doing new stuff?

  • @Loosegoat good question I have not had this one before, to answer your question I never let the canvas dry before I start painting again, I usually just stop long enough to adjust the camera angle maybe 2 to 3 minutes tops. or to mark where a cut needs to be for editing.

    Regards,

    Michael

  • @Loosegoat thats a really good question. why would you have to adjust the camera angle when you have a camera guy?

  • @MyBallsYourChin121

Possibly to consult with said camera operator on the appropriate angle for the next shot.

  • I smell a successor to Bob Ross! Please continue to post work, thank you for the great instructional vids!

  • That was helpful. Thanks.

  • What a great accent. I could listen to this guy teaching anything.

  • @imthemoonme i agree,

  • Is this how the masters did it?

  • I liked your clowd technique, with the fan brush. I also enjoyed the tree technique, with the tapping of a large brush. Thanks man!

  • the southern accent made it so that I could not keep a smile off my face the whole time I watched this. :')

  • I'm a newbie, and was confused about oil painting... Thanks! This looks exciting!

  • Very talented and inspiring!

    Thanks a lot!

  • Interesting vid, you should let people know this is not the only way to paint, good stuff though

  • It's a wet on wet style, but he's using the bob Ross technique. Looks good

  • A great production, Bob Ross would be proud.

  • so good, thanks

  • Did you let your base of white paint dry before you started??

  • BEAUTIFUL..........

  • I really do like this man. He's very talented and so unpretentious - a nice trait in an instructor of anything - and certainly true of an artist. Very enjoyable and EXTREMELY helpful too I might add.

  • just love his accent...TEXAS...dallas

  • The first step to sky was superb, but the cloud part is not matching.. seems like the cloud is very near and big in and bulged (keeping figure small would have nice). The presentation is very nice.. Thank you.

  • Shouldn't you be using a reference? Painting from your head isn't a very good way to start because the finished artwork usually looks contrived.

  • what kind of brushed did you use? and yes, what a very nice tutorial!

  • oil painters make it look so easy...I'm good at drawing, but when I try to paint nicely, it just turns wrong...oh well.

  • Really good stuff Michael. The subtitles made me laugh though =D

  • Are you a reincarnated spirit of Bob Ross? This is too good!

  • @RileyRichardz

i was thinking of the same thing, same voice, and paints just like him!

  • @RileyRichardz kinda impossible considering the fact that this guy was born before he died

  • Very, very nice. I went out and bought a $ 50 kit from Hobby Lobby today to try oil painting because if your video. Considering I cannot even draw stick people correct, I was walking through your 4 videos step-by-step and found out I could do it with your help. Thank you so much for the video, tips, 40% Hobby Lobby coupon link, and your great artwork.

  • @spcalan This is what I love to hear that someone started painting!! I want to see your artwork thanks for letting me know. :-)

    Regards,

    Michael

  • Michael Love the video. You must be from the south. I love your voice. Great video for beginning to paint. Thanks

  • @4759952sg Yes I am from the south I live in GA. Thank you for your kind comments.

    :-)

  • Dear Michael*

Thank you for your soft and warm approach::::loved your playfulnes and lightness with it all***

  • @Artida8 Thank you :-)

  • @Artida8 Thank you. :-)

  • @creativecolour that was really good, I actually learned something. thanks.

  • Yes, the reincarnation of Bob Ross is on youtube! Now I can throw away my anxiety medication because this is so soothing. Niiiice an smoooth. yeah!

  • Did you say you threw a layer of white oil paint on the canvas before you started this>

  • @TenkaFubu6192 thank you!:-)

  • @TenkaFubu6192 yes I coated the canvas with a thin even coat of very thin white paint.

    regards,

    Michael

  • @creativecolour Thank you.

  • i love your method of teaching you seem like a great guy

  • I really appreciate how you went into detail about the brushes your using and I like the tip you gave about keeping the paint away from the base of the brush. This is such a simple thing and yet I was never told this before. Now I understand what was going wrong with my brushes. I used to have to buy a new one all the time. Thank you! :)

  • welcome...visit gpabsky.com website for the ARTIST! ty

  • I have a doubt. When you made the cloud do u wait for the sky to dry?

  • @gulaqua no the sky is wet as soon as I put the sky color on the canvas I started on the clouds.

    Regards,

    Michael

  • the cloud looks like a dragon

  • Man, I love your videos they really help me out. Our art teacher just tells us to paint with watercolor, then we move on to acrylics and oils. But she doesn't really teach, just tells us to do it. I had no idea these were the types of brushes you needed, I've basically been looking at walmart because there's no art stores here. Now I've got a better picture of what I need, and the techniques to use. Thanks so much!

  • this way relaxin :D

  • 0:38-0:42 - YEAH- No more Shake and Bake Ricky Bobby.
