I'm still so shocked by this. No one talks about how great Eddie was, only about Liz Taylor and Debbie Reynolds triangle. His voice was the best of the three men and inspires me so!
@Rosannasfriend As a long time fan of Eddie's, I am tired of reading about his personal life, people forget that a lot of entertainers do a lot worse than Eddie ever did in his life, and they are so adored by the public. I have known Eddie pretty well, back in the 1980's and into the 1990's, he was a very sweet man. His last marriage made him happy until he lost his lovely wife. I was so happy that he found someone to love him.
He had a great life, despite all the ups and downs. Great singer.
@dungareedoll1 I agree. The first time I saw this performance I was truly sad. I grew up hearing only about the fiasco with Liz Taylor. I think it is a shame that she is so forgiven, while Eddie wasn't. I actually think her behavior was a LOT worse(though I love the woman she became).
@Rosannasfriend Carrie Fisher has said in her book that Liz called to speak to Eddie, maybe to put things right between the two of them. When I see this performance, I see the Eddie Fisher I knew for several years, a great talent. I just bought the Andy Williams collection of his shows just so I can see Eddie at his best on several of Andy's shows.
@Rosannasfriend Eddie's daughter Carrie said that Liz called to speak with Eddie before he passed away. Maybe to put things right between them. When I see this performance, I see the Eddie Fisher I knew for years. I just bought an Andy Williams show collection so I could see Eddie at his best on several of Andy's shows.
The only guys today who come close to the power and clarity of voice of these guys would be those Irish tenor guys. Funny how today's top classical singers were just par for the course pop singers in the last century.
Great to see all three together, am now reading a biography of Bobby Darin. How short was Eddie Fisher? Yikes! Bobby was short, and he's the tallest of the three!!
LOL there are Japanese subs there. Japanese sure know what intelligent music is. "Intelligent music"...lol I never thought I'd use that made-up term but America's music is so dumbed down nowadays that I have to say that.
LOL was "Do-Re-Mi" composed by them? LOL! I sure hope so! XD I hope I was born that era! I want them to teach me alphabets!!!! XDDD
When Eddie sadly passed on a few months ago, this quote appeared in the L A. Times. "He had the biggest voice I ever heard," singer Andy Williams told The Times on Friday. "I used to do numbers with him and Bobby Darin on my show. He used to blast the hell out of us. His voice was so big, round and full."
This is the death-defying arrangement of "Do-Re-Mi." I kept waiting for Andy and Bobby to break up from having to sing facing each other. And to think this was just another week on "The Andy Williams Show." Great stuff!
@mikelapot because this new young generation of singers cant sing the way Andy Williams. Eddie Fisher and Bobby Darren, Frank SInatra, Dean Martin,Perry Como, Sammy Davis and Nat King Cole.
@zitaperez He is an accomplished performer with an entertaining style of expressions and body language who can sing passably; but he lacks the pipes to be a great singer. His voice lacks the power, range, pitch, tone control, phrasing, and grasp of chord structure that came so easily to the talented interpreters of the Great American Songbook, led by Sinatra and Ella. Dig out some Eddie fisher hits and listen to his sheer power. Check out Jo Stafford's perfect pitch. Pipes!
