  • The best muthafuckin "How to string a guitar" video, i was looking for this video for months, that lock is magic :D

  • I've been playing guitar for about almost two years now and whenever I replace a string but it only wraps about one or two times..why is this?

  • @trenty90008 pull the string tight and that back off to like the 2nd fret

  • That is some serious man jewelry... turquoise LOL

  • Comment removed

  • Hey, my guitar has a Floyd Rose Tremlo bridge, so how do I take the string out?

  • Getting punched in the face by this dude would be no bueno look at all those rings

  • /watch?v=WqnUqEIRX2o link on how to replace guitar strings (electric)

  • His boyfriend must have a jewelry fetish but to the rest of us all that shit is just gawdy

  • I was about to change my high e string when I noticed the fools at Jammers solg me the wrong gauge...and I specified which one I wanted....-.-

  • i'm self-taught in string replacement, it's pretty easy once you know what you're doing

  • its hard guys, but practise. i just changed my strings for the first time in a year (ive only done it once before, and badly) and thanks to this video it wasnt even that hard really

  • was i the only one that laughed at 1:54

  • @guitarplayer9090 i laughed at the same spot, that noise is as funny as hell xD

  • Hell I'm 22 with a Ibanez guitar....taking off the strings no problem at all....I can't put them on worth a shit.....tuning is the easy part....stringing is hard as shit

  • removing the string is easy.... putting them back together is fucken hard

  • Haha. I didn't expect much from the comment I made 10 months ago, but wow.

  • terrible vid. you shouldnt even cut it until you stretch the strings out omg.

  • wow thank god for this video... I have a backwards neck too and i never knew how to put the string on correctly...

  • FUCK THIS SHIT IS FUCKING DIFFICULT FUCK

  • why is it important to change one string at a time to maintain neck tension??

  • @fredsassy5 If you cut all your strings at the same time your guitar neck will loose all the tension from all the strings at once, and with so much tension lifted from it at once it could bend or even crack.

  • mine goes through the bottom underneath

  • People, stop complaining about this video not being a help. he explains everything perfectly. if you do not understand, then it's your fault. not his.

  • at the first time its really hard for some people, but at the other times its easy xD

  • you know when i saw that this was a video from expertvillage i was worried because i've watched some of your tutorials on snowboarding and tricks, and they were terrible. but his was a very good video on how to replace the 1st string of my guitar. basically good job, and work on your snowboarding videos cause they suck.

  • Thanks! Helped a lot. needed to touch up on changing strings.

  • tap 8 and it looks like he's fishing XD

  • I don't know what kind of strings this guy uses but mine don't "lock" in place with a simple tug, instead they bend in all sorts of weird ways and make installation more difficult than it already is..

  • @edge526 Same problem here

  • "And tune the bitch"

  • This really helped me out thanks

  • 1:53 made me laugh so hard.. not sure why

  • @xShoopDaWhoop Diiiiiiiinng!!!!!!!!!!! xD lol

  • @xShoopDaWhoop just a little immature thinking that was funny, but sadly it was lol

  • I stabbed my fingers 4 times doing this for my first time

  • Hey, I've got a problem...everytime I've tried to restring my guitar, the strings pop/break...because if it is the 6'st/E string when I hit the string it is e, but it's rasleing, so I tight it, but I never come up to the E again, before it pop's/breaks :(...tried all the strings and all broke :(( plzz answer me :D

  • did he end the video by saying "and tuning's a bitch"

  • @TheFrancomania hahaha "and tune it ta pitch" ;)

  • Dick's village

  • if this doesnt help search how to change guitar strings for dummies its a way better explanation

  • Not bitch- that was pitch

  • at the end it sounded like he said bitch

  • Okay I've got a question. I've been changing my own strings since I got my guitar five years ago, but every time I do it, the strings seem very tight. It's not that the action is high (I have it so low that I get significant fret buzz), and it's not that my strings are too heavy (I buy light gauge). They just seem very...stiff, I guess. String bends and two-hand tapping are very difficult on my guitar, although I can do them just fine on other guitars. Anybody know what I'm doing wrong?

  • If you can't follow this you need to be wearing a helmet every time you go outside.

  • its hard to replace if you dont have tools

  • if you're lefty with the tuning pegs facing the same way as his (like me) this helps. But for rightys (just about everybody) this is a pointless vid.

  • OK, so the guitar he is stringing has the tuners upside-down. (they point to the ground when you're plaing it) That would make it confusing to a beguiner. Just think of which way you tune up or down whaen you are playing the guitar before deciding which way to tighten the string.

  • Think this guy has enough rings on his fingers!?

  • These videos are all just fine. It's your fault if you can't follow directions. The spelling in these responses really shows me how capable you people are anyway.

  • I can't fucking stand the Fender Strat tuning pegs, I mean whose fucking stupid idea was it to design them without a closed hole to feed the string through?

  • sweet rings....

  • I chuj kurwa struna upierdolona - kto mi kurwa teraz za struny odda

  • 6th string is a fucking bitch.

  • @TheLittleVirus i cant get more then one wrap around it.

  • mine has lock how to change that please maka a video

  • thanks i havent had to change my strings yet but they feel like there gonna break so i just bought some dunlops today

  • this is as helpful as staring at a tree

  • HELP I have it made exactly as in the video but the high e string I already ripped 2 times I've played in a C tuning, which is indeed the high e string down to d and then is pulled me at the mecheniken What is going on ????? can anyone help me ?????

  • @themusicmaker55 try making this make sense and then somebody may be able to help you

  • @themusicmaker55 did you get thicker strings?

  • @statickevin yes i have thicker ones than before..

  • Everyone go check out Bill Bakers video instead, his is way better. I'm not advertising here, justh elping people, it is really better, tells you lots of good stuff.

  • THANK YOU FLOYD!

  • Comment removed

  • You so shit!!!!!

  • Cool video really helped, more than others. Especially that knotting and jamming thingy at the post.

  • what kind of giutar was it in the video?

  • Clear : )

  • turn the middle side top-wise,. . . right?

  • this vid help me a lot..but i think the guy the gave me the string gave me the wrong one..llmfaoo

  • This video is great. I had my Fender Strat restrung in less than 20 minutes. Thanks.

  • why is the camera on him. shouldnt it be on his hands so we can watch.

    Dumb. Dumb. Dumb

  • @RugglesandJeffyTV Lol, I'm seriously laughing how people on YouTube can't understand sarcasm, how many did tell you that he says tune it to pitch? :D

  • 0:43 That's what she said.

  • @greenorange75 lmao nice

  • thanks now i know how to change my string in stead of going to a music store and pay like 10$ for someone else to change it.

  • Great video, thanks

  • @RugglesandJeffyTV he said "Tune it to pitch"

  • @RugglesandJeffyTV he says tune it to pitch

  • i faild and now i need to buy new strings :(

  • You don't need three wraps around the post. One is enough - try it. For the 5th and sixth one half a turn does just fine - especially with tremelo. The main reason your guitar goes out of tune is this spool you created and its inability to instantly reacted to tension changes. Go for it!

  • @armsby no. you're wrong. strings get loose and buzzy

  • @armsby no. you're wrong. the strings get buzzy and loose with only one wrap

  • @GuitarGuy2432 Wrong I'm not sir. Been doing it this way for thirty years and can show you any time. When correctly locked as you describe how can they get loose? And where do you suppose the buzz then comes from? See the original Daddario video here. 1rhdxCECcl4 (paste that)

  • thank you so much i was almost crying that i messed it up

  • man all these "how to change your guitar strings" are shit. this is my first time, and all of the videos seem unclear =___=.

  • thanks, this video helped me changing my strings

  • @RugglesandJeffyTV He says ''Tune it to pitch.''

  • @ChoNillaKid NO WAY?!?! O RLY? Oh, we all knew, and were joking

  • This is so fucking frustrating to do the first time, these videos don't help at all....

  • @guitarfreak8900 It's frustrating everytime.

  • @guitarfreak8900 Yea I agree this video is not good I looked at another one and it's just as bad. I 've been playing guitar a long time and was looking for a better method. This vid is worthless

  • @guitarfreak8900 I will be making a very understandable tatorial soon.

  • he is winding the string to the wrong direction

  • He says tune it to pitch...not tune it you bitch...listen more carefully before you comment..

  • @xsarah6394x lol shouldnt even have to listen carefully, the video has subtitles XD

  • @GlennP91 haha yeah. And 18 people thumbs uped that comment..so 18 other people can't read or listen...

  • @xsarah6394x he was kidding XP

  • @webespecial but there are subtitles...''Interactive Transcript''. Beside the views.

  • We can't fucking see what your doing you FUCKTARD.

  • put on 480p its way clearer

  • @RugglesandJeffyTV you MORON he says tune it to PITCH

  • the tip about the amount of slack and wrapping the end of the string around the other length of string was very helpful. Thanks!

  • @RugglesandJeffyTV he says tune it to pitch... but lolx if he did say that

  • thanx dude u rokkz

  • terrible camera work! show us what youre doing!

  • this vid suckss fuck this vid sucks at teachin

  • fuck these videos ther no fucking help

  • He should've kept the line tension and whacked himself with the string

  • @RugglesandJeffyTV tune it to pitch u idiot

  • dunno but i get a really annoying buzz when i changed the string

  • WHen I wind the string do I want it above the string that entered the whole or below? I've heard it matters, But I forget.

  • for some reason i only get 1 loop , y? can any1 help me idk wat im doing wrong

  • @Ben80997 you're not buying long enough strings.

  • Maybe forgetting to add slack? Seems like the only possibility to me.

  • i have a 21 fret guitar, when im trying to do a solo and need the 24th fret of the high E string, i try and bend up from 21 to 24 but the string always snaps! does anyone have any tips on how i can prevent this?

  • @McFro95

    get a 24 fret guitar

  • @Arterial666, cant afford one :(

  • @McFro95

save up or get one for xmas.

i got an ibanez for 200 at guitar center thats a good one

  • @Arterial666 hi.. i have an e. guitar like ibanez,,, can i ask you? how can i tight my strings? bcoz it always broke.. thanks :))

  • @artienda12

do you know how far strings have to be in tune?

  • i've watched a lot of videos here on youtube about changing strings. A lot of people do it different ways. Iam about to change my strings on my tele for the first time since iam a beginner. The only thing iam ify about is the slack and how much for each different string. I have seen dudes measure with the tune machines and some measure just by eye balling it. Whats the best way to do it? does each string have same slack or what?

  • I'm a beginner as well, I saw one vid where the person lets 2 frets worth of slack.....thats what I did with my schecter and it was damn near perfect. You also have to remember that the strings will stretch when you string it (obviously you will stretch them), so it works out

I just winged it, and it turned out well

  • thanks a lot, great video.....I have a friend that showed me how to string a guitar just like this, I know i'm a newbie but I did manage to break a string while re-stringing....pathetic

got it now, best video around

  • Can someone help me? I own a Dean Vendetta XMT and i need to replace the strings but the strings aren't coming out.

  • you throw the old strings away ? :o

  • @jani3099, i change my string/s when it/they snap/s

  • evry question needs an answer smart one.

What if you didnt know about something and u asked a stupid question about it, then ppl say "stupid question needs an answer?" wont u get mad too ? yea u better.

  • thank you sooo much! i had a talet show tomorrow! thanks!

  • this is an important question:

Do you have to replace every string if you need to replace ONE string???

  • Nope, but unless you just have an extra string sitting around, you might as well replace the whole thing.

  • @ChRoMaStOnE561 nope

  • u dont need but you should

  • @ChRoMaStOnE561 not necessary,but usually,when 1 string brakes,i replace them all..

  • oh ok.

    thanks :)

  • get this sh1t off your hands you redneck... this is not fashion channel

  • 'tune it to pitch'

  • He said "Tune it to pitch" not "tune it you bitch" bwahahahaha

  • Great video. Helped me replace my broken string. Thanks.

  • he says tune it to pitch sry to correct u

  • buzzkill xD

  • haha u made me giggle mister ruggle and jeffy

  • god vid. i had the hardest time changing strings, ruined like 4 high e strings. finally used this method and got it as well as i could.

before, the windings weren't lined up right, they were all over the peg which i hear can eventually cause the string to break. you need it coiled neatly.

  • which strings are better : wound and nickel?

  • plastic

  • -_-?

  • omg.. anyone who cant figure this out... ur a genius

  • i have a strat copy will i screw up my guitar neck if i take all the strings off at once?

  • If you have a Floyd Rose, change each string one at a time (E and E and work your way to center) or you mess up the balance and have to use the Wedge method. On a Std strat (classic or modern) the one string at a time is preferred as the springs will pull the tremolo into wood body.

  • nope =)

  • nah thats how i change mine

  • @littlealien123

I'm hear taking them all off at once messes with the string tension. Play it safe and do it one at a time.

  • Good video. My fender sounds great.

  • hmm am not sure if i should do it my self..i mean tight the string...would something go wrong?

  • Thanks a lot, my string just broke. -.- Totally snapped my string.

  • i got all that, but my problem is, when i tighten the guitar string, the string gets so close to the neck the it is touching the frets, and then when i pluck the string, it makes a buzzing sound and no clear no whatsoever, can someone help me? i keep ruining strings this way, and im tired of wasting money on strings that end up not working. if it helps, the type of guitar that i use is an ESP/LTD Viper 50. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • you need your action raised take the guitar to a guitar store

  • It's very unlikely to be a problem with the strings and probably a problem with the frets or truss rod in your guitar neck. Take it into a music shop they'll sort it out for ya

  • erm, i knw how to do this, so, u dont need to take it into a guitar shop. just, get an allen key. and loosen the truss rod. if you dont know what that is, its a very large screw that is found at the top of the neck. normally, there is a plastic plate, covering it. unscrew that and voila. but be careful. if u loosen it too much, then u will be screwed. say goodbye to guitar. lol hope it helps:)

  • thank you thank you thank you i now know how to change strings on my guitar oh god thank you now i dont have to pay 20 bucks to get my strings changed

  • why does expert village put these videos up they are all so unclear

  • QFT

  • @aguywitha Click 480p it made it WAAAAAYYY easier to see.

  • 1:11 to 1:20-How is he locking the string? I've wasted two high E strings already, and I can't quite see what he's doing there, which would be very useful.

  • Nevermind, I figured it out.

  • The nut that holds the string with the winder? really i wouldnt even have thought about that

  • Hey for all you experts out there, i just changed my strings ans the top 3 strings(gbe) are fine but the bottom 3(Ead) Have metal buzz to it when i play. And im not sure how to fix this. i use gauge 10 DRs.

    Any help, Thanks.

  • i can help. what kind of guitar do you have? if its buzzing you just need to raise the bridge a little bit

  • Jackson Kelly, and actually i have raised the birdge didnt do anything

  • okay then you may need to replace the nut

  • You might also try taking an allen wrench and finding out where the truss rod is accessed on your guitar(usually underneath the plastic cover on the headstock where the neck starts) Do that and see if loosening it would help your situation and stop the buzz. I would recommend putting the bridge back to how it was first and then trying this, just to keep a balance. Hope that helps you man. Peace

  • Yes, the nut can cause that. But naturally the lower string will usually do that on a new set. After you break them in, they will not buzz as bad. If you are playing an electric, I wouldn't worry at all. Through an amp, you will not hear the buzz at all.

Some advice... don't but DR unless you are buying the color coated strings. Their plain strings rust and corrode in under a month. I recommend Elixir. I've used DR for years and their regular uncoated strings go bad very fast.

  • ive only got one loop and its in tune is that bad?

  • Do you have to have like a certain amount of slack of something? Cause I put the strings on and made them tight, but not too tight too make sure it didn't break. But then when I went to tune it for example it would say like C when it was suppose to be E but I couldn't tighten it to E cause it was already really tight.

If any experts can understand that can you please reply and help me out?

    thanks

  • You have to leave enough slack so that when you're done, the string is not tight enough to really even play the guitar. That way, in order to tune it, you can continue tightening that string until it's got the right note.

It's a a PITA the first couple of times you do it, but doing it yourself is probably a third of the cost of bringing it to a shop to have it done; plus it's a handy skill for when you're playing a gig and a string snaps and you need to replace it to keep playing.

  • pull it through as show, then measure about two inches after the pull through, and put a 90 degree bend facing outwards left or right, in the string. Then back off the thread till you have the bend at the post, then with the string nice and loose at the fret area, hold the bend at the post,(String through) then wrap the string around the top of the post counter clockwise on the left posts, and clockwise on the right posts. Strings go in from the inside of the posts.

  • can i use regular scissors?

  • yes, you can use regular scissors, but the wires are more difficult to cut and the scissors will be ruined. so just get a $5 wire cutter/winder.

  • scissors dont work good...use pliers
