An absolutely amazing song fabulously performed. I got shivers down my spine! Sandy Denny's are big shoes to fill and Chris does it wonderfully. Thank you for sharing this gem.
Anyone who hasn't got the original of this may wonder what the fuss is about. My tip: if you like words, music, and folk-rock history, get "liege and lief", and listen to it a few times. You may find the magic growing on you, and the late, great Sandy's voice. Thanks a miliion for posting this, it brings tears to an old geezer's eyes and a glow to his heart!
I can back this up completely. I was 9 years old when they brought out this song and it still makes my hair stand on end. Chris is doing great singing, a worthy tribute to Sandy. May you rest in peace, Sandy.
Hi Claire! Only just saw your reply - many thanks, you gave me an energy boost, much needed, as I am on the mend from a bout of mystery illness. I felt pretty old this week, but am working on it! Even my bad hand feels better, so I am getting back to practising again, hopefully to do a couple of small gigs and gatherings. See you!
I saw Fairport back in 1970 at Shepton Malet festival. Would Sandy have been with them then ? I don't remember seeing her...

No, she left after Liege & Lief in 1969 (then rejoined in the late 70's).

You are NOT an "old geezer"! As long as you can get excited about folk music, that is!

PS. I also make serious bamboo flutes, and busk - sometimes panpipes, sometimes guitar, voice. Are there any good towns in your area?
