Only became aware of Gram Parson in the last two years, sometime around mid 2010. With EmmyLou Harris, oh magic they created. Would love to have heard them in persons. R.I.P. Gram. Hope you are Safe At Home.
I am sure I have heard it a thousand times over the last 30 plus years, and it really is almost certainly the perfect country song. The combination of the strings, the lyric, the voices of him and Emmylou...it is a great masterpiece.
Saw the Florida orange groves? His father owned a gigantic group of plantations, made millions of tons of frozen orange juice, stocks, bonds. He didn't waste his 27 years over that but spent so much energy & time writing & preforming his songs.
@RasMajnouni Just so the record's straight - the citrus acreage was owned by Gram's maternal grandfather; a guy named Snively. Gram's birth father committed suicide in 1958, when Gram was 12, and his mother married Robert Parsons, whose surname Gram adopted, His mother died of cirrhosis, due to heavy alcoholism, in 1965, leaving Gram her share of the Snively fortune ; enough money so he could pursue his musical leanings without having to worry about earning a living.
@cjbenh Gram had a trust fund from the day he turned eighteen. It had nothing to do with his mom dying. She would not have cut her daughters out of her will. That said, he did have a yearly income of $35,000- $55,000; depending on the source. peace & Luv, BluzCat
@dadzbluz Gram was wealthy. In the Sid Griffin biography, Chris Hillman said that in '68/'69, Gram had $55,000, (twice a year), automatically put into his bank account-for the rest of his life.
In today's dollars, (I did the math), that's over $300,000 a year.

I love discovering a new singer 99% of the world has forgotten. It's like I'm keeping his legacy alive. 28 people and I.
