@jangkimtyler it's a step up from glitter, but I think she proved herself in Precious and had she would have not opted out of For Colored Girls because of her pregnancy, she would have rocked that too. Mariah will never be Meryl just as Meryl can never be Mariah and yet I enjoy Meryl's voice for what it is and Mariah's acting for what it is. But that accent was godawful. Just saying.

@ashdubdri Yeah but that's not really an excuse. As an actor you've got to be able to pull it off. Let's take a look at Jonathan Rhys Meyers who has to do an English accent when his normal accent is very Irish and they are very different. And when he played Elvis in that made for tv movie. Also Meryl is another person who just perfects an accent. She's played South African, German, British, Swedish, Australian and she sounds authentic. Orlando Bloom and Rpattz not good with accents at all.
