I don't think they meant to show the native tribes in a negative light, I think that they wanted to show how our civilization is tearing down their homes, by destroying trees: and thus the Earth. The tribes' soceities are coexisting with the Earth, but we are destroying it- and them. I they they represent a simpler way of life that is more honest and community-oriented. That's my view on it.
