@oddersisadog It really is great. Personally, I still suck at Darkest Hour since I am use to Hearts of Iron 2 (with mods). I wish they had better tutorials, both in-game and here on youtube. Either way, the way I became decent in HOI2 is just trial and error. Play as Germany to learn most of the military aspects. The US, so you can sit back and just worry about learning how to run a economy. Sooner or later you should become decent.
I have a speed issue, the game seems to slow down over time. When I get into the year 1944 it almost stops. Even when I put it on maximum speed. Is there a fix for this?
@mini1gerbel Mainly the map (which is incredibly awesome; this cannot be overstated) and gameplay speed (no longer lags in the later years). The decisions system is decent, the new tech tree is good, and it includes a WW1 scenario (although interwar years need to be improved dramatically). Oh, and the automated industry works beautifully (no more fiddling with IC sliders).
Overall, there is almost no reason to get the original Hearts of Iron 2 over Darkest Hour.
@SciurusVulgarisTV edit the files to make it last longer or download the RDD mod that will have 1914-1999 soon atm it just has 1945-1999 and will soon be updated with the new full map ;)
@roguegoliath74 Darkest Hour is based on hearts of iron (hoi) 2 but with lots of incremental improvements. The gameplay is polished and pretty much everything works as it's supposed to.
Hoi 3 changed a lot compared to hoi 2, but unfortunately it launched in a very crappy state. 2 expansions later it's beginning to come together, but it still has some flaws in the gameplay. But in some areas it is more modern than hoi 2 and darkest hour.
I still enjoy darkest hour more than hoi 3 though.
I playes HoI2. I've got to weak computer to play HoI3 :( So I'm happy because Darkest Hour working on HoI2 engine and has the same system requirements :)
Very good, but my only big complaint is that you cant play from 1914 to 1964. If that little piece was part of the game it would have been much better.
@HarriboFTW Windows 98/ ME / 2000 / XP / Vista / 7, Pentium III 800 MHz 128 MB RAM, 1 GB Free Hard Drive Space, 4 MB DirectX-compatible Video Card, DirectX-compatible Sound Card, DirectX 9.0 or Higher
hope they make the game so it dosnt have so much bugs and crashes, love all the HOI games, BUT there are too many bugs and crashes for them to be really enjoyable. other then that I LOOOVVEEE THE HOI SERIES!!!!!
Biagiotti --thanks for taking time and effort to comment on my post-----sounds like intelligent well reasoned advocacy . Jim P.S. TonPappa -thank you also for your reply and time and effort.
I'm deff going to buy this game when it comes out, been dying to play a WW1 top notch version of the HoI series. Now if they could only make something like this for the Napoleonic wars that would complete my gaming requests from paradox.. haha
@Kleptophobia Funny, since HoI3 is a hex game while HoI1-2 has larger more realistic provinces. I have HoI3 and I was quite dissapointed, prepare to buy more expansions to have a real full game.
@0jrhindo Dude have you played HoI? It takes some serious powah to run late game due to the way HoI2 for example handles all previous decisions (stores them endlessly). I hope DH improved on this but iether way the AI has so much to consider in late game it slows down alot :p
@ss11955 thats your opinion of which i disagree. there is almost no tactical immersion in the total war series but common sense and big battles but it does get a tad bit boring. all games have that boring factor but in the Hol games they offer more. i wouldnt mind a Hol game theology with total wars big battles but thats almost impossible and impractical. i could see if this isnt your cup of tea but this has more "tactical immersion" than you can imagine. oh well whatever.
@ss11955 I use to be a die hard total war fan, I still play them but outside of the tactical battles the games are a joke, unrealistic and sandbox. They are like Hollywood movies, all the money goes into the bang but there isn't much substance. These games aren't that amazing graphically, but being a die hard history buff and lover of all games strategic (Ever since Command and Conquer 1 was first released on the Ps1) these games by Paradox are by far the greatest strategy games i've played. try
@biagiotti2006 Total War games have some great mods to make things more realistic and add more roleplay (especialy for Rome and Medieval 2), theres also fantasy mods too like Lord of The Ring and such! Google twcenter and the forum will be at top.
@xn117 yes there is. The tutorial has the full mod. The light mod and vanilla are basically hoi2.

Strong Learning curve if you ask me.
All I need is a good tutorial. Everyone that I find is just bs on top of bs until finally they have basically told me nothing useful.
I can dream can't I? Game looks great though.

I got a issue, whenever i run darkest hour it just says "Stops responding" and throws me back to the desktop.
Do i also need HoI2 or is this more of a... stand alone?

Without tactical immersion a la tpTotal wpWar etc. type games this Hex type game is just lacking excitement. Just my 2 cents worth.
ss11955 1 year ago
@ss11955 This game will give you strategic immersion, isnt that a good alternative to your tactical immersion?
Also the total war games need ALOT of power to run them, unlike the HoI series.
