  • you can have children without being married can't you ?!

  • @jeejee1943 Sure you can! But she was married by the time she gave birth to Mimi. Just for the record.

  • a great great moment

  • Fabulous! I'm a long time fan, but I can't help comment that somewhat appropriate that The Help is one of the movies for Oscar this year.

  • me a woman 30 years old and now i am 65 and still in love with this song

  • OMG I SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO remember watching this as a kid!

  • I am old enough :) yet I don't know anything about her private life, it is without any significance for me, I like the singer , anyway I read somewhere that she's become very close to religion ! what a change for a sex symbol :)

  • love this song so much I listen to it many times every day

  • don't understand a single word but I am fond of the melody and the rythm !)

  • never tired to listen to this musical jewel

  • written by Vangelis

  • well it's not her daughter at all, in the end she thanks her nephews and nieces! in 1983 donna was not married yet

  • @TheJanine83 This girl is her daughter. Donna get married in 1972 with Helmuth Sommer, in Germany, and so they have this child, whose name is Natalia Pia Melanie Sommer (aka Mimi). Later on, she get married with the singer/songwriter Bruce Sudano, in July 16, 1980 and they have two girls Brooklyn and Amanda. By the way, in the end of this dvd there's a special thank you for Mimi.

  • @EndlessDonna not jut this girl een donna een jhon barry name iness

  • @TheJanine83 Yes. It is her daughter, Mimi. Everyone who was old enough knew that at the time.

  • I remember a time, 30 years ago, when Dona sang very hot songs, nowadays, she changed her way of life and became religious

  • but the little girl is blonde! what a wonderful song, timeless, do you know who wrote the melody ?

  • I remember watching this HBO special. This song has touched me since I was young.

  • Great watching this video, also great seeing the members UK act Musical Youth on stage with her the little guy in the white hat (Michael Grant) and the guy with glasses and green shirt (Denis Seaton) These day's they are the only remaining 2 members performing as Musical Youth even though they are both now Musical Men. Anyone remember the hit Pass the Duchie on the left hand side.....that was them. Met em' a couple of times about 4 years ago, great guys....

  • HEY HEY!!

  • Very emotional. Have to go now.......

  • I've been looking for the concert for years!! I had it taped as far back on VHS recorders, but due to new technologies, it kind of got left. It's available on Amazon thank god.

  • Not many people seem to know that this song was written by Jon & Vangelis!

  • You know what...I actually remember watching this as a kid on HBO way back in the day.

  • Did she always perform so effortlessly?

  • @poolehart Yes !

  • lovely clip

  • who is the little girl?

    is Donna´s syster or daughter?

  • @Killbillero She's Donna's oldest daughter, her name is Mimi, she must be 38/39 years old nowadays.

  • Donna's figure here is stunninh

  • Might just be me but especially when the "crowd" join Donna, it just makes the spine tingle! excellent performance!

  • I watch this about once a week, in bed after I turn out the lights

  • wow... wie wundervoll!!!! best regards from Berlin. Thank you for this beautiful video.

  • Sheer class.

  • YES, PEOPLE, to answer your question, that is her daughter Mimi...

  • This is a beautiful song from Jon Anderson and Vangelis, check for more songs like this one with Jon Anderson, Jon Anderson and Kitaro

  • Ganz GROSS!!!

Best Regards from Hamburg, good old Town

  • Comment removed

  • So beautitiful! to save souls.... that's avesome.

  • Wonderful to hear this again...

  • Pure class...

  • FANTASTIC upload... is not her daughter MIMI???

  • she looks just like her dad, if you see a pic of him you'll see they have the same eyes and nose, lol

  • u can hear donna or someone yelling go mimi during the 42 sec mark lol, i have this on vhs, my dad recorded this on hbo or some channel, i dont remember, also have culture club, dobbie bros, stevie wonder and many others, he like a wide range of music

  • donna;s daughter sounds incredibly good here. she is only about 10 year old too since donna's daughter was born in 1973. apple doesn't fall far from the tree. too bad all the good producers had their best day sbefore the 1990s because someone like georgio moroder could have worked with donna's daughter. today's producers make the best singers sound like trash.

  • Thank you very much for the post. The finale put a lump in my throat & made the hair on the back of my neck stand up!! Absolutely excellent! Go for it Donna!

  • @ThirdOf June444...Credits are at the end. Dara Bernard.

  • omg, i had no idea Donna's daughter was blond and fairskinned. She is GORGEOUS! I wonder what she looks like today.

  • @cjs33139 yep, mimi sommer , donna changed the o to a u, she also has two daughters named brooklyn and amanda, brooklyn can be seen on that show called my wife and kids

  • @tiana1017 Thanks. I can't believe her daughters are not mentioned much in the press, because I am a 70s child, yet never knew much of her family life or her kids. I just googled her daughters and yes, Amanda and Brooklyn are GAWWGEOUS! They might be lighter in tone, but still have Donna's beautiful features. :) Donna has always been, in my opinion, a very attractive nubian goddess. :)

  • @cjs33139 its hard to find pics of mimi though, the little girl in this video but i found one

if you google "black sugar myspace mimi sommer " a recent pic will come up, she's wearing green and still has the same light hair etc.

click on the black sugar myspace not the mimi myspace as its not her page, its some other chick

  • @tiana1017 Yes, you are right. I tried and tried to find pics of Mimi and they are almost non-existent, except for the ones when she was a child. OMG! I just googled what you suggested and I see her most recent photo! She is gorgeous! A lighter version of her mother. In my opinion, she looks more like her mother than Brooklyn and Amanda. :) Wow, thank you!

  • @cjs33139 You're welcome =)

  • I MUST know the wonderfully talented woman's name in the maid's uniform at the 1:20 mark. Is it possible to find that out? Anybody?

  • @ThirdOfJune4444 She's Dara, Donna's sister. I think she has a beautiful voice!

  • @ThirdOfJune4444

i'm guessing the name of the woman at 2:22 is "chubs" like a black version of shirley booth on Hazel. great song by the english experimental rock band YES but donna was starting to become a "black artist" by 1983 and by 1984 her career tanked. the horrible song "unconditional love" was the end of donna's being a major artist. sad, because she was so much better than every dance and hip hop hags who came out after her.

  • I gotta comment some more. I am totally speechless and overwhelmed by this performance. I am a 39-year-old man with a deep, raspy, deep, and baritone voice. I like to sing no matter how awful I sound only because I enjoy it...no matter how awful it may sound to others. The only way I could sound like that little girl or Donna Summer is if an anvil dropped on my toes...haha! Thank you VERY much for posting this! Absolutely thrilling!!!!

  • Holy freakin' cow! I normally do not comment on YouTube videos, but not only do feel the need to comment, but I actually goosebumps from this performance. I have no idea who that super-talented little girl is but if Donna Summer siddled up to me, I would absolutely faint! I'm completely speechless! What a thrilling performance!!!! I have listened to this video 11 times in a row right now and have danced to it in my living room every single time!!!! Absolutely thrilling!

  • I'm so glad Jon Anderson of Yes and Vangelis wrote this song, that somehow Donna found it, Quincy Jones produced it so that it could be enjoyed by so many!

The song is timeless, a real modern day hymn!

This state of independence SHALL BE!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @Pdoolesct It's like a meditation

  • This song was written and originally recorded by Jon Anderson and Vangelis on "The Friends of Mr. Cairo" album. It absolutely BLOWS this version to the WEEDS!!!!!!!!

  • Yet another excellent song from Donna live in California in 1983,,not heard a better sexy voice yet!!!!!!

  • What an underrated black beauty. And such a gorgeous voice.

  • Also everyone needs to know that Jon Anderson & YES have sold upwards of 50-60 million albums, be the rock n roll hall of shame do not deem them worthy of induction. It's one of the biggest travesties in music today. If you like this song you should contact the hall of shame and demand that both JON & YES be inducted!!

  • @BarrySanchez How true, AND not to mention that the Rock n Roll Hall has yet to induct Donna. Donna has been nominated (3) times, but has yet to be inducted which is also a total travestie.

  • Everybody needs to know that this song was written by one of the greatest poets of the 21 century. Mr. Jon Anderson of the Progressive Rock Band YES. Writing & performing for over 40 years. YES IS BEST!!!!

  • @BarrySanchez 20st century

  • when I was 18 years, I dreamed of distant lands, beautiful girls, beautiful-:)

  • I remember watching this on HBO in 4th grade, 1983. I was obsessed with it. I loved it and everything about it! Then I never saw it again until 2010. It makes me cry (in a good way!) THANK YOU for posting!!!

  • That was her daughter,Mimi, who started singing this song.Notice how Donna kept her next to her.She wispered something to her, maybe to say how great she did.Mimi must be in her 30s by now.

  • BEST SONG BY DONNA

  • GENIAL

  • love the lyrics to this song wish everyone did and lived to follow the path they lead to that would be mint ! and drive a land rover !

  • A repetitive song lasting over 8 minutes might usually be an instant turn-off. There was, however, something so moving about this infectious performance that just can't be turned off. The sentiments expressed, the seemingly casual presentation, the superb sound production, the ever-building emotion, the artist control and the clever lyric all contribute to the most wonderful sound and vision experience. Thanks to Endless for providing this classic performance to You Tube for sharing

  • @treiterschijf

    You nailed it!

  • it was i paul caputo, who held up the sign, WE LOVE YOU DONNA... AND I MEAN IT! sign was made by me paul caputo, and annie and duke Adams, from LONG BEACH, CALI, i now live in Beeville Texas, Donna we still love you! 2010

  • What a performance by Donna Summer, and all that took part. The power in the lyrics are outstanding. Every time I watch this video it gives me goose bumps all over. I was only 8 at the time but remember in my later days (90's) hearing different mixes of the tune in clubs etc. But nothing beats watching this performance. what more can I say.. incredible !!!!

  • My God, I swear I watched this performance literally every day as a young kid. Donna was my first favorite singer, and I had this home video. This was like a ritual for me from the time I was about 7 to 8 years old. Something about the song always enthralled me, and seeing her daughter up on stage with her fascinated me, too. I'm glad that I found a clean copy of the VHS again a few years back (I wore out the first long ago!)

  • never seen this before, well good how cool is the kid at the start

  • Love this Anderson and Vangelis song. Normally love Donna.

But everyone in this particular production looks BORED to tears.

    Shame.

  • i love this tune

  • I also remember this from when I was younger.

  • I was there that night at the Pacific Amphitheatre in Costa Mesa....sitting on the grass in the back on a blanket with friends. One of those beautiful nights i'll always remember, real magic. When this song started everyone was saying,"Is that Mimi? Is that Mimi?" You could really feel the love in the air, i think it translates pretty good on the video. Donna Summer is one of Americas Greatest exports.

  • MY pores raise every time I hear her such a powerful voice

  • Classy video with her clothes on......unlike much of what we see today

  • I think this was my favorite song on that one particular worn out cassette that I found buried in a box in the back of the closet. Then I found this clip on the YouTube. Thanks for putting it up...

  • aaaaah donna c est encor mieux en concert

  • Ze kwam maar nie, ze kwam erna.

  • Beautifull video, noble sentiments, love and peace are cool, let the world embrace these truths.

  • @oktobercat You are so right

  • I love this! I remember watching this with my mum...reminds me of her, she passed away on June 10th 2000, thank you fou putting this on here!!!

  • This is a nice video. And if it puts you in a wonderful place in memory of your mother then it has served its purpose..be blessed.....peace and a long life

  • This video is one of my most favorites ever I loved when I was a young man and love it even more today what a hot summer night

  • Reminds me of my childhood. I remember seeing this on TV at my grandma's house. Good memories! Thanks

  • Reminds me Christmas 1983 with my first love, thank you !! I am also very impressed of the picture quality of this video after 26 years.

  • This is such a powerful song by Ms Summer !

    Definetly her best !!!

  • I still have my old cassette tape. This was my favorite song off of that album, and I was HAPPY to find this clip. Never saw this, if it was an HBO special. Saw her "live" in Tahoe when I lived there around the late 70s/early 80s. I've viewed this many times now, and I kind of wish they had some nice shots of the band. There are a couple of longshots looking down....where you can see some dude rockin' out back there.....The top of ...it looks like the drummer's hat maybe. Layin' down the groove

  • soo this was like 80s i guess. i wasn't born yet lol:D, but i like Donna

  • Beautiful song. Yes, I believe that is Donna's daughter.

  • @prettycountrygirl2 Yep, it sure does look like her little girl, Mimi!

  • @BillyBobKumar That's Mariah Carey.

  • @rellenoz that NOT Mariah Carey. she was like 12 or 13 at the time.

  • Think I was six when I saw this on HBO, my family taped it to VHS and it got watched endlessly. Great song and this is such an awesome version, and an awesome show. The version of she works hard for the money was pretty good too......

  • And Such A Powerful Song and Representing with a True Meanning:):):):):):):):)

  • I love this Concert show of Donna Summer, it was shown in HBO back in 1983. If I'm not wrong, the little her singing is actually Donna Summer's Daugther from her first marriage Husband Austrian Helmuth Sommer. Such a very Beautiful Voice Donna Summer has up to this date. Thank you for posting this Video. I was only 9 years when I first saw this T.V. Show Concert on HBO. What Memories those were in the 80's.:):):):):):) Thank You!!!

  • @czam73 I too remember watching this on HBO in 1983. My cousin recorded it on VHS and we would watch it every Saturday. This is when music and concerts were really great.

  • @czam73 you're right that is her daughter mimi
