hey great playing man.....this is gona help me a lot when i find a place to play get this- i been banned from playing where i live...im movin out fast......
@dizzyzack Ionian's the first mode. Dorian's the second mode. Phyrgian's the third mode. Lydian's the fourth mode. Mixolydian's the fifth mode. Aeolian is the sixth mode. Locrian is the seventh mode.
I noticed you're not using hammer ons or pull offs - congrats. Refreshing to see instructions delivered correctly! I also see you've got that 'circle picking' thing going on. Great lessons! But when are you going to tell me to tune to Eb? {^;^}
haha when he says "and today well be looking at...." it sounds like hes taking a huge dump in his pants. lol. but man, this dudes tone is incredibly insane. it sounds monsterous.
D E F G A B C D (D minor [dorian] scale) same notes as your C major!
3rd mode just starts on the 3rd! and hits the same notes! you just need to know the mode names and if its major or minor and you can figure out all the paterns all on your own
its just an inversion of a scale with a difference characteristic because of the styles and places that adopted the modes in their music........there are notes that when accented ephesize the phrigianess or lydianness and corresponding chords but this is all basic theory that becomes apparent the more and more you learn the more the patterns emerge.
I think you should use an example of the video with a backing track since the use of the modes of the major scales all the depend on the background chords. If you play D Mixolydian, with out a backing track it will sound just like the G major Scale. Instead if you use a backing track with the chord progressions of Am7 and D7 the true taste of the Mixolydian mode will arise. It will sound similar to the licks santan plays on "Oye Como Va". If you wanna listen to Mixolidian on action listen to it.

what key is this in?
SweetTsilence 2 years ago
D. it says so when hes spelling it out. he starts out with D. that means its in D.
diazcamille 2 years ago
starting on D doesnt mean its in D, lol.
What if he was doing a 2 , 5 ,1 to C? Then he would be starting on a D but he would be in the key of C.
westvocal 2 years ago
well yeah, i know, but he is playing in d.

D mixolydian is G major
westvocal 2 years ago 2
Same notes yes, only in G major you emphasize G and not D so there is a difference rly.
RsGhost1 2 years ago
@westvocal And G major is E minor :O It's all connected!!! Trippy Shit!

the modes are alot easier than you think!
First mode - Ionian (maj scale)
C D E F G A B C
second mode just start on the second note!
D E F G A B C D (D minor [dorian] scale) same notes as your C major!
3rd mode just starts on the 3rd! and hits the same notes! you just need to know the mode names and if its major or minor and you can figure out all the paterns all on your own
