I have repaired a few subs for friends whom were less than financially able to replace subs. I used Porous Surgical Tape in a cross lapping patter (similar to how tires are made). Once the tape is done i used superglue to create something like a cast. Never failed yet.

More than likely when putting the sub in or using it the surround was torn or just blown out. I have seen more than a handful of subs hitting so hard that the weakest link was the surround. Foam surrounds are a pain. I am sure we have all seen someone putting subs into a box and the screwdriver slips putting a nice little hole. This was a repair job.

To me it looks like he used 1" boards, 2 on the front for durability, roughly 14.5"H x 14.5"W x 12"D with two aero ports running out the back of each. So all that x2 and it is still a very compact enclosure set up that can easily work for most daily drivers. I just want more specifics from TH as far as what he tuned them to and cuft.

@da1krayziethug Your close... depth is 12.5in. Originally started with 1 baffle but it proved to small and had a loading issue, hence the taped up surround. There are 3 4in aeros coming off of ea box. Tuning for burps is 59hz. I plug one port on ea box for daily allowing me to play into the mid 30's comfortably.

Yea at first he wasn't giving them enough power, or at least not what they can handle then you hear Steve say something like "Bump that sh*t, I know you got it". Then he gives em what they need. We can always tell when a sub isn't being powered to it's potential. I hate it when I see people aiming for a loud setup, and under powering their subs. I dunno why but it just bugs the he*l out of me to see a sub under powered.

@gmancarini1 You can as long as you have some surround. Best advice if your so inclined to put in the time would be to buy a surround kit. You can buy loose surrounds and replace the one you have. If your not wanting to do that then spend dollas and buy some all purpose goop. Works like a champ.

Yes it will sound just as good when done right. No it will not have bad effects on the speaker itself.

DC Level 5 12= yes a $400 dollar sub but if you blow it you buy a $150 dollar recone and you're back in business. Rule of thumb (never buy a sub you can't recone). Those who know laugh those who dont question lol I blew the surround (6in inches worth) completely off that sub in June. Taped it in between runs and did a 155.5 lol That pr has been wired to an ab 1100.1 ( 9k) daily and comps. Musically 6816rms on the pr and 9650 for burps.

If the bottom half of the sub is all good why the hell recone when you can build an unbreakable surround out of Gorilla Tape. If you push the limits long enough and hard enough things break. Thats what r&d is all about.
