@scorpi0ch1ckie; consider that saying "Why would you continuously glide around a wind turbine is like saying "Why would you float down a whirlpool you dumb ass?" Haha they said Don Quixote.. That sucks for the bird though. There are ways to avoid that as well.
So we are incapable of maintaining and regulating nuclear power when we have the greatest "What not to do in case of nuclear meltdown" example right in front of us?
@scorpi0ch1ckie That was a result of poor management. The problem could have been easily avoided. Look into Chernobyl; there's a lot to learn. Nuclear power on a whole is safe.
@blacktigerpaw1 I agree completely. I was simply stating to MrChallelito that there is at least one example of nuclear power harming animals...and people...and plants...and pretty much everything within a 30+ mile radius.
Besides, this bird appears to be asking for it... why the hell would a bird be so stupid as to continuously glide around the propellers of a wind turbine, narrowly missing being hit several times before - WHACK! Survival of the fittest - dumb birds die.
Fake. Look at the camera shake at 0:10 - the wind turbine stays in place, but the bird lurches left and right in sync with the camera movement. Not likely that a sudden lateral wind gust could reverse that quick in complete synchronisation with a camera shake and cause no disturbance to the bird, yet this bird moves back and forth horizontally without a single adjustment to its wings! Also, a rotor strike at that speed could be expected to dislodge a lot of feathers from a bird of that size.
@Sneader83 Correct - I stuffed up, as a more complete version of this video shows that it is very likely to be authentic. Shows what a little more research can achieve, doesn't it? Seach "Vulture accident" to see the full picture ...

Or the fact that nuclear is actually much more expensive that Wind, and that you wouldn't have any nuclear unless the governments picked up the tab. @matchbox555 Yea that may sound like a great idea, but I'm sorry to inform you that there's no 100% safe nuclear power.. And the nuclear technologies we have today generate A LOT of waste which can't be stored anywhere near humans, so yea.. Great idea..
The best way is to use both windmills AND nuclear power, and then hopefully in the near future, we'll have developed Fusion nuclear instead of fission, google that and learn..
@TheKooleh Actually you'll find they can build fail safes into nuclear reactors very easily; eg using gravity to transport coolant and thermal expansivity of boron to separate fuel. They generate very little waste actually, because nuclear waste = nuclear fuel. Many technologies already process this to provide power.
Wind is a terrible tech. It generates a ton of toxic waste when obtaining materials for the dynamos for each turbine, they are intermittent at best and generate little
It's called natural selection. If the bird is dumb enough to fly next to the blades which can reach up to 180mph, it deserves to die. Death is the result of life, you can't make every damn thing live forever and painlessly. We going to outlaw car windshields and radiators too because there's a lot greater chance my 13 dinosaur to the gallon Mustang is going to obliterate bugs than a bird gets hit by a windmill.
Ok wind turbines have a 0.003% chance of killing a bird and secondly, more birds have been killed by cars and building than wind turbines so by the logic of some of you lets tear down every building and car in the world
next time; don't zoom in only one vid... looks funny when the eagle grows 100% an move but the turbine not a bit... or that the eagle can fly trough that kind of vortex without getting in trouble...
@capricrow I do understand Fluid Dynamics, but the vortex at the tip (or trailing edge for that matter) is not enough to cause the bird to loos control when flying through it. That's what I'm trying to get at.
@capricrow dude, windmill's spin WITH the wind, not by a motor. They don't cause turbulence because they spin reminiscence with the wind, so this is real, and even if it is not (which it is) this still happens.
So know, you don't know, Mr Hang-glider, and hang-gliders are not as maneuverable and as adaptable to weather as these birds. these birds (amazing creatures) can adjust their winds to glide in the wind. Do some research on the effects of aeronautics in birds and windmills, good knowledge
@bfs1888 anyone points out a problem are the enemy eh? You probably hate the ozone hole scientists. Maybe the general public who cause all the problems should have all their toys removed until they can play better?
Respond to this video... Bats go through these all the time, and the vorticies can cause their lungs to rupture. Of course this is real. Why would anyone fake this crap?
@PaMortgageBankers, I Can't agree with you more. All this rainbows and unicorns garbage is deadly and impotent. If the enviro-nazis keep this up we should be a third world nation in a decade or less. Why do the enviro-nazis ignore this kind of killing? As long as these are running they're killing 27/7/365.
@waterfowlrescue A lot of things kill a hundreds of birds every years. One of them is the habitat destruction caused by coal mining. I don't want to undermine the environmental effect of wind but when compared to coal, it's very clean. Clearly, there is no perfect solution for electricity generation, so we need to choose the lesser harm. We only have a few economically viable solutions. Wind is one of them.
How would underground mining affect bird habitat? Strip mining possibly I guess. Problem is if you would ramp wind turbine numbers up to the point that you could replace coal.. and I am not even sure that's possible. Then calculate the bird deaths. Coal is 80 % of our power source. Spend the money on making that cleaner. We have a 200yr supply.
According to eia, for new power plants installations in 2016 (which more relevant than now considering how long it takes to build them) electricity will cost by source in $/MWH
95.1 coal
109.7 clean coal
136.5 clean coal with CCS
96.1 Wind.
building clean coal plants is more expansive than switching for wind.
Building them.. OK.. but how much power do they produce compared to coal, or natural gas etc. I am not bashing wind.. But it is not the golden egg solution. I think we will need multiple sources until someone invents the next amazing thing.
Most studies I have read on the subject have counted a very low bird death rate associated with wind power. They are also very localized. I think it would be less expensive to study bird behaviour on site before building a wind farm
Strip mining represent 66% of US production. Also, global change is sure to contribute to bird habitat destruction.
Did not know strip mining was 66%. I know that's nasty stuff.. But the reality is we need the power. And if were not gonna build Nuclear plants we gotta do something. I think we should do all of it... and pick whats best for the situation. Solar works great in Arizona.. No so much in Ohio. It's amazing to me that as the worlds superpower we don't really have a national energy policy that really works.
@kens97sto171 Considering the impact of coal on the environment and on public health, I would support almost any other energies to replace it. Nuclear has its problems but they have been greatly overstated. I don't see why nuclear waste should be treated like anything more than a very dangerous poison. Sure we don't want any of it leaking out but very little is produced per unit of energy and it's manageable. The biggest problem with nuclear is the cost.
I think we are on the same page. I am all for Nuclear, but shit we have not built a new plant in 30 years. I am not saying coal is the best option overall. But we have it and I think should continue to use it in as clean a way as possible till we decide to get off our asses and do whats needed. Solar and Wind are great. But I don't think we could power the country on only those two options.
this vid is banned from my facebook, looks like someone really wants to run their house on broken eagle wings

The best way is to use both windmills AND nuclear power, and then hopefully in the near future, we'll have developed Fusion nuclear instead of fission, google that and learn..
TheKooleh 3 months ago
@TheKooleh look what we need is nanosolar cells and fusion... until then we will use nuclear fission.. but wind is mostly bullshit
matchbox555 3 months ago
@TheKooleh Actually you'll find they can build fail safes into nuclear reactors very easily; eg using gravity to transport coolant and thermal expansivity of boron to separate fuel. They generate very little waste actually, because nuclear waste = nuclear fuel. Many technologies already process this to provide power.
Wind is a terrible tech. It generates a ton of toxic waste when obtaining materials for the dynamos for each turbine, they are intermittent at best and generate little

Is it me or is there something wrong with the video at 0:08
madmax2069 4 months ago
The video just proves how foreign wind turbines are to the landscape and to nature.

Silvestris420 4 months ago
Ok wind turbines have a 0.003% chance of killing a bird and secondly, more birds have been killed by cars and building than wind turbines so by the logic of some of you lets tear down every building and car in the world
Sheepona94 5 months ago 21
Fake...
next time; don't zoom in only one vid... looks funny when the eagle grows 100% an move but the turbine not a bit... or that the eagle can fly trough that kind of vortex without getting in trouble...

haha
gash2024 5 months ago
@capricrow I do understand Fluid Dynamics, but the vortex at the tip (or trailing edge for that matter) is not enough to cause the bird to loos control when flying through it. That's what I'm trying to get at.
likeaprayer111 5 months ago
@capricrow dude, windmill's spin WITH the wind, not by a motor. They don't cause turbulence because they spin reminiscence with the wind, so this is real, and even if it is not (which it is) this still happens.
So know, you don't know, Mr Hang-glider, and hang-gliders are not as maneuverable and as adaptable to weather as these birds. these birds (amazing creatures) can adjust their winds to glide in the wind. Do some research on the effects of aeronautics in birds and windmills, good knowledge

let's take away ALL the stuff, that would include, oil, coal, from the 'green' people. They can pitch a tent far away, and have a good time.

@bfs1888 anyone points out a problem are the enemy eh? You probably hate the ozone hole scientists. Maybe the general public who cause all the problems should have all their toys removed until they can play better?
baalisgod666 5 months ago
Respond to this video... Bats go through these all the time, and the vorticies can cause their lungs to rupture. Of course this is real. Why would anyone fake this crap?

i wonder what the squirrel population would be if it weren't for cars,,lol

@PaMortgageBankers, I Can't agree with you more. All this rainbows and unicorns garbage is deadly and impotent. If the enviro-nazis keep this up we should be a third world nation in a decade or less. Why do the enviro-nazis ignore this kind of killing? As long as these are running they're killing 27/7/365.

The wind turbines kill hundreds of eagles every year in this one location. It shouldnt matter what kind of bird it is, they all feel pain and suffer.
waterfowlrescue 6 months ago 8
@waterfowlrescue A lot of things kill a hundreds of birds every years. One of them is the habitat destruction caused by coal mining. I don't want to undermine the environmental effect of wind but when compared to coal, it's very clean. Clearly, there is no perfect solution for electricity generation, so we need to choose the lesser harm. We only have a few economically viable solutions. Wind is one of them.
Tamizushi 5 months ago
@Tamizushi
We have a 200yr supply.
kens97sto171 5 months ago
According to eia, for new power plants installations in 2016 (which more relevant than now considering how long it takes to build them) electricity will cost by source in $/MWH
95.1 coal
109.7 clean coal
136.5 clean coal with CCS
96.1 Wind.
building clean coal plants is more expansive than switching for wind.
Tamizushi 5 months ago
@Tamizushi
Building them.. OK.. but how much power do they produce compared to coal, or natural gas etc. I am not bashing wind.. But it is not the golden egg solution. I think we will need multiple sources until someone invents the next amazing thing.
kens97sto171 5 months ago
Most studies I have read on the subject have counted a very low bird death rate associated with wind power. They are also very localized. I think it would be less expensive to study bird behaviour on site before building a wind farm
Strip mining represent 66% of US production. Also, global change is sure to contribute to bird habitat destruction.
Tamizushi 5 months ago
@Tamizushi
Did not know strip mining was 66%. I know that's nasty stuff.. But the reality is we need the power. And if were not gonna build Nuclear plants we gotta do something. I think we should do all of it... and pick whats best for the situation. Solar works great in Arizona.. No so much in Ohio. It's amazing to me that as the worlds superpower we don't really have a national energy policy that really works.
kens97sto171 5 months ago
@kens97sto171 Considering the impact of coal on the environment and on public health, I would support almost any other energies to replace it. Nuclear has its problems but they have been greatly overstated. I don't see why nuclear waste should be treated like anything more than a very dangerous poison. Sure we don't want any of it leaking out but very little is produced per unit of energy and it's manageable. The biggest problem with nuclear is the cost.
Tamizushi 5 months ago
@Tamizushi
