I heard a radio interview with his widow in the 1980's - not only was he very talented, she claimed his philosphy was to surround himself with the best talent he could hire, unlike a number of his contemporary band leaders who wanted to be the star of the show. It shows in the recordings he and the "all stars" made!
Awesomely clean for an old 78 vinyl record. Beautiful dub to digital! Thanks for posting this, as well as for sharing all of your wonderful treasures with a world of audiophiles (like me).
This was originally recorded in July 1942, and featured on the flip side of "Der Fuehrer's Face". It was one of the last commercial recordings Jones and his aggregation made before the American recording ban went into effect (they wouldn't record again for Victor/HMV until November 1944). "Willie Spicer" is a pseudonym for Jones' "special audio effects".

Nice HMV pressing, not familiar with
that catalog number, in what country
was this pressed? Many HMV pressings
were better than their American counterparts.

@dancebandleader I think it's a Norwegian pressing.

I wish that spike was still around, then perhaps we could have good comedy nowadays!
