  • JOHN MAYER IS A TOOL... SRV ALL THE WAY!!!!!

  • Honestly who gives a shit if he does pop blues, folk even country. The guys living his life and having fun, isn't that what life is about? Having fun, enjoying it and living it? If everyone listened to a critic the world would be a lonely depressing place.John Mayer is amazingly talented no one can take that from him. Let the guy have some fun

  • Yikes I wonder how much he had to pay for that guitar. It looks too much like one of Stevie's strats he played on Austin City Limits to not actually be it.

  • @zeppelin5100 I think it's ignorant to believe John Mayer has the same fan base as SRV. They're totally different

  • @Longsleeeves Not exactly. I am a fan of both, as kasperx777 said, John's a blues guy. Pop just pays the bills.

  • Ehh, too heavy. He's gotta let it breathe

  • so this is what john used to do before inside wants out...

  • somebody was off a 0.21-22...but what a great cover..

  • johns voice is defenatly more distinctive than steive's, but i cant listen to this without the pop john in the back of my head

  • got his voice sounds exactly the same

  • he just gained so much respect i already had for him

  • @gusemiblues Mira imbecil, no "traiciono" nada.

  • If that's him singing it's kinda creepy.....He sounds a little to much like Stevie here, blew the lead some. ....I'd go see him.

SRV still hasn't been beaten tho, by anyone. Not by a blues style anyway.

  • Umm...On what planet is this considered HQ? This a fucking joke.

  • Fuckin pussy.. why doesn't he record this stuff instead of his shit hole pop shit... he 's fuckin great.

  • I wonder how many of these john mayer fans know this is originally srv

  • @Longsleeeves everyone, srv isn't a secret unknown the worlds population...especially cold shot

  • He is Key To THE REAL MUSIC for all the kids and teenagers that live today.

  • With as many Hendrix covers as John has done, It's no surprise that he would be able to take a song by another artist so influenced Jimmy and make it absolutely righteous

  • John and Kenny Wayne Shepherd are closest SRV imitators

  • his voice sounds so close to stevies

  • Both you fools down there need to shut the hell up and just listen to the music. I freaking hate people that sit around and get so tedious about the way someone plays a song or the way a song sounds. Hey, assholes, JOHN CAN PLAY THIS ANY WAY HE WANTS. ITS A COVER, NOT AN IMPERSONATION. Get a damn life, losers and find a new hobby, because you're not musicians.

  • John's a blues guy. Pop just pays the bills

  • @kasperx777 Which means he's a fucking sell out

  • its obvious he was a SRV fan... and we all are too...

  • makes you appreciate just how good SRV was/is. John Mayer is supposed to be one of the "better blues guitarists of this generation". But stacked up to SRV he doesnt even come close.

  • Comment removed

  • oh yeah he's i ntexas he plays srv he rules so much

  • Artits like John make youngsters discover blues music by making both pop and blues. we need more like him ! I saw him once live and that was freakin amazing ! I wasn't listening to blues at all when I started listening to John at 15 yr old. now i'm 18 and I listen to every freakin blues or jazz or old rock artists possible ! Thanks to John !

  • @Fabouss

We're pacing about the same than because what you said literally describes me to the "T" also. John Mayer really opened the door for me. All my life I knew i liked blues and jazz but at the same time I didn't know. JM really pointed out the obvious for me; and now I'm hooked. Blues, jazz, and oldies (which I've always listened to) are now prominent on my iPod; with John Mayer on the top of course haha.

  • WOW.....the voice is down right scary how close it is.

  • kenny wyane shepherd can do it better if anyone is interested in checking him out.

  • @mt94supersport... i'm thinking the same thing. i saw him cover voodoo chile in atlanta september 8. (you can watch the video on here). but me my buddy and my brother were the only ones singing. kinda made me depressed for like a half a second

  • I wonder how many people in that audience ever even heard that song before that night. LOL. On the whole not bad. My only knock on Mayer is he sold out. Could have been a great blues guitarist, and still made a lot of money. To each his own, but I think some of his stuff is just mindless crap like everything else on the radio now days. However, to his credit, good voice, and plays with lots of intensity. NO comparison to SRV, but still very cool.

  • I wonder how many people in that audience ever even heard that song before that night. LOL.

  • good job!!

  • the great thing about mayer, he can sound like any other great guitarist like stevie and jimi, and he has his own sound too, thats what makes him one of the greatest

  • john mayer before he got his nigger pass

  • @mic187x2 what does that even mean?

  • @turnbacktime its a play on his statement in playboy magazine.

  • my God... it actually sounds like stevie singing on that stage.

His playing is pretty darn close too.

If Reincarnation is true. John is definitely Stevie

  • @matt22sound Too bad he was born right around the time Stevie was forming Triple Threat.

  • Kudos to him for attempting this - great vocal. But like his version of 'Panama', a little self-indulgent, no?

  • john beats stevie wen it came to vocals. but stevie is still the better guitar player. im sure we can all agree to that

  • @epeemstr you could not be more wrong SRV was 100x better in both the vocals and guitar

  • If you wanna see someone who does a very good job at covering SRV's music check out Tommy Katona.

  • wether you like him or not, you gotta take you hat off to his playing and his respect for greats, id like to go see him, just to see those few songs he'll play like this

  • take guts to play that in dallas but good job .

  • I dont even see why there is hype about being close to SRV.. yall asses act like hes the only guitar plyer that was good recently. People should strive to have their own sound.. guitar has expanded so much even since SRV has left us.. time to move on.

  • @atl2maryland I dont see why you dont strive to shut ur piehole

  • John Mayer may be a huge douche bag but he is one of the most talented musicians of this generation.

  • @paradox963 bullshit

  • You spelled Vaughan wrong! Put the A in there! Not Vaughn! It's Vaughan!

  • @jhanover yeah!! common mistake. i dont understand why. and the call themselves fans..

  • Damn his voice sounds like SRV. !!!

  • If one person came out of that concert wondering who SRV was and went out and bought one of his records--then that was a victory in itself.

  • He's ok on this but SRV was the Real Deal!

  • His voice is amazing!!!

  • Where's the sex appeal?

  • Comment removed

  • How drunk are you when you say such things?

  • Comment removed

  • you call yourself a true SRV fan? bullshit. stevie ray would be the first to tell you to fuck off!! stevie ray said in an interview that he thinks artist should play other artist songs, in order to keep their music alive. i have been a manic SRV fan for over a decade and i know he would tell you to fuck off after what you just sed. SRV would watch this video in proudness, he would admire mayer for what he is doing. And also john mayer very rarley plays SRV songs, its a sign of respect

  • @SRVBASE no he also plays everyone elses songs, quite possibly the most famous sort of okay guitarist cover band man.......

  • @Johnnyboy200406 i dont care how long you've been in the music business, you know absolutely nothing about it. Just because someone writes and sings pop songs doesn't mean that they have no talent, and that also doesn't mean that they don't create anything. Coming from someone who writes pop songs, kiss my ass. And if you are in music than you would know that genres mean absolutely nothing, there is good music and there is bad music, but its ALL music. Your an idiot.

  • @robertsfootball74 , genres mean nothing, you are fucking clueless, you write pop songs because it only takes the iq of a 12 year old little girl to write it. Genre is everything. Pop music sucks and requires very very very little talent and effort. Its a quick buck!!!!!!!! And you sir are a penis

  • @Johnnyboy200406 Your ignorance is hilarious. Pop music literally means popular music. It is anything that is out right now and is popular. Going back to the fact that music is genre-less. It doesnt matter how long it takes you to create something or how much effort you had to put into it. Its about creating it. That is why people get into the music business. And the fact that you would bash someone for being creative and and doing something that they love is completely hypocritical

  • @Johnnyboy200406 Any musician will tell you that its all about creating something. You cant honestly tell me that pop music is the easiest to create, you obviously dont write. Music is the universal language and not everyone speaks the same language. Is it so crazy to think that maybe John Mayer WANTS to create the music that he comes out with? That he's not just doing it for other people? I choose to write pop music because i like pop music. And i honestly thought that you might have.......

  • @Johnnyboy200406 ......been actually intellectual and this could be a good discussion but with your childish choice of words at the end of your comment i guess not. Music doesn't just end where you say it does. It is endless, that is the beauty of it. If i had to guess, from your ignorance, i would say you DON'T work in music and if you do, you have seen no success and you are bitter about it. So why don't you go comment on something that you know a little bit more about. Have a Nice Life.

  • @Johnnyboy200406

Just ot let you know, just cause something is pop music, it is not bad. There is a differnce of songs being known to be good and songs that are popular and shitty

  • @Johnnyboy200406 question: Which popsong did you write?! You don't know shit bout writing songs obviously!

  • @arnoldvld I dont write songs you jackass im a musician i play instruments. You obviously are a jackass who wants john mayer weiner up your ass.

  • @Johnnyboy200406 if you think JM sucks, you're the dipshit

  • okay then in your words "you are an idiot"

  • @SRVBASE all you have to do is look at the video bar on the side and guess what they are all of other peoples music and i gaurantee you none of those mayer poppy fans know who even wrote songs like cold shot or lenny. He is a poser, ive been a musician for 14 years. Its great to play other artists music hell yes, but the point of being a musician is to create your own. He writes what sells not what he creates.

  • really? well you tell me, who worte cold shot?

  • @SRVBASE justin timberlake right............ i dont know who worte it but stevie ray wrote this one his damn self, im from austin texas man its stevie ray capitol central.

  • If you know your Stevie Ray Vaughan, then you know he didn't write this song.

  • W.C. Clark wrote this song.

  • Im a big John Mayer fan and I love SRV this is the first time I see him cover SRV and I just want to tell you that I couldnt agree more with what you just said regarding covers,, well said my dude, BTW lets not forget that SRV covered Hendrix further proving your point..

  • Yes I understand what you speak of and I dont pursue any kind of fight either. Sure, no matter how hard Mayer tries he'll never be like SRV but I have to say that I do believe he has contributed in the music world and he is more than an ordinary musician. Besides, when younger musicians play old songs they show respect to those who made them and they highly praise them Lets keep the media work against Mayer out of this. If you think this is a junk, fine by me I wont try to change your mind.

  • Wow they sound so similair it's not even funny!

  • i think back in the day stevie got a girl pregnant during one of his touring escapades and that girl produced john thats why he sounds so similar o_O

  • hahaha nice joke dude!

  • Wow. I never would have thought anyone would come this close to sounding like Stevie, much less John Mayer. I guess I prematurely wrote him off after the crap he put out ten years ago.

  • u can tell mayer trys to emulate stevies singing voice alot

  • I know, We (guitar players) know, and John knows that no one can play guitar like stevie did.. but.. he is for sure the closest thing i've ever heard

  • Comment removed

  • soloquierosignearme: I second that.

  • i agree to some point although, check out joe bonamassa, i would say he is closer to stevie.

  • ohh haha, I don't think so.. you can not say that a les paul guitar player is closer to stevie than john.. I really don't think so..

  • @soloquierosignearme well try listening at your local scene...youd be amazed as to whats out there. :D

  • @soloquierosignearme This dude needs to stop this bullshit. Stevie covered Jimi, and this silly fucker tryin to come in and do this. Cmon pple. And put a shirt on jackass

  • Lol, listen to guys like Rocky Athas, SRV's childhood friend and great guitarist in his own rite.

    Mayer? he's very average IMO.

A mere copyist that you can see in a local bar in anytown USA on "jam night".

  • @GalaxyRover1020 I searched that guy because of you, he's great, but from the moment on he is playing a Les Paul you can not say that his playing searches stevie ray's style..

  • @soloquierosignearme - He usually plays a Strat...

Check out his guitar work on John Mayall's latest album "Tough" if you like what you heard.

  • @soloquierosignearme have a listen to a guy called mitch laddie- i was shoked at how close he sounded to SRV

  • @ifu06572 you must be kidding, that guy cannot play 3 consecutives notes.. and his vibrato sucks!! god.. I know you can't compare any guitar player with srv, but come on, Henderson is closer, or mayer..

  • @soloquierosignearme have you heard of tommy katona?

  • @soloquierosignearme pretty close.

  • Wow.. he has a great voice - but his playing seems sooo slow compared to SRV. But kudos to him for being on stage covering SRV tunes to the teenie boppers :)

  • @avgjoegeek yeah, it's called changing the tempo. stevie did this too with his own songs, as do many artists.

  • @RobWein83 - theres tempo and then there is just plain slow. This song just drags. He has it down though - he's a great player but nothing compares to SRV's playing I guess so I'm biased :)

  • @avgjoegeek No, he cant swing and his band isn't either. The rest of it sounds good though.

  • @devorahacts what im pretty sure john can swing he went to burklee dude

  • @jayengrahlman I'm not a dude, and that's HORRIBLE.

  • @devorahacts what horrible? the fact that your not a dude? or johns swing, cause if you think its johns swing then you know nothing cause that mother fucker swings like no other . Just sayin i know he can play the blues WELL and all blues is swing

  • @devorahacts what horrible? the fact that your not a dude? or johns swing, cause if you think its johns swing then you know nothing cause that mother fucker swings like no other . Just sayin i know he can play the blues WELL and all blues is swing

  • @jayengrahlman Listen to the original. That is swinging. This is rocking. He swings like a rocker. Maybe playing playing Jazz for a few years might be a good idea for him, and for his band. Please don't say anything else. Your every utterance is subtracting from the sum total of human knowledge.

  • @avgjoegeek

I was at this concert and I can tell you that 90% of the people there were adults.

  • @avgjoegeek I must disagree. He does NOT make teenie bopper music. If there are teenagers in the crowd, that just goes to show that they have good taste in music.

  • @OhShinyObject he really did get his start from playing soft core "chick" music but since then(about 10yrs ago) he has branched out to playing more of what he wants to play, cause now he already has the fan base, so what record label is going to stop him

  • @my87z28 I will agree with that; no record label is going to try and fix something that isn't broken. To your point, the "chick" music he started out with was reminiscent of The Police and James Taylor which did draw a certain crowd, yes, but it's still not teeny bopper music. He makes the music he enjoys, and seeing as how he was heavily influenced by The Police in addition to Hendrix and SRV, it only makes sense that he established himself one way only to recreate his style album after album

  • @OhShinyObject i certainly see the Police / Sting and James Taylor as being infulences, but you cant deny that yes he got his start from females buying his CD's, his first biggest hit was "Your body is a wonderland" that is as "chick" as it gets. but at the same time i like what he has done. in an age of dyning guitarist he is trying to keep the art alive. and that is awsome

  • holy crap! i honestly wouldn't of known the difference if i didn't see it with my own eyes! amazing!

  • john sounds really like srv

  • so, im pretty sure if this just said "cold shot cover" without john name in the description people would have said this video was awesome.

  • He has a Number 1 copy? I didn't know that...

  • stevie would be diggin' this...

  • Great cover! You gotta respect Mayer bringing this music to a mainstream audience.

  • i cant think of anyone else at the moment that is covering SRV like johnny does period. this is the music that inspired JM to pick up a guitar so its what moves him... Mr. Mayer if you see this,, Please do more of this kids need more of this. Thank you.

  • youre comparing him with SRv you're crazy??¿

  • i dont remember ever comparing the two... i said... covering,, there is a big difference.. everyone knows that SRV is a huge influnce for john mayer... and just to clarify I am a fan of SRV.. no will ever come close

  • you do

  • you lose bubbabubbabooba, you lose.

  • He's got no feel, that's not hate, it's just plain truth.

  • I wish this rhythm swung a little harder. Still, If Mayer has done nothing else but introduce a younger crowd to SRV, then he's done his job.

  • If John Mayer didn't have blues talent Tommy Shannon, Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton, etc etc, would NOT have played with him .

Sure, John mayer is not SRV, but for the love of God he's not a bad player. Keep the hate comments to yourself, there's a good chance no one wants to read them.

  • He plays that pretty good

    And that's a cold shot

  • give me a break

  • That's why I'd never do any public tributes to any other guitar players because then a bunch of people sit around and bitch about how you're not so and so. There are plenty of players I'll pay tribute to but it's always gotta be masked so that only the smartest bunch figure it out.

  • lmao whaaaatt

    comparing Mayer to Dylan? haha

oh man.. i mean im used to reading comparisons to SRV or Hendrix, but Dylan? haha really? Who's next? Woopie Goldberg?

common guys... just listen to the music. thats all that matters.

  • ok, to all of you who do not think john mayer is original, you're wrong, he's got his own personal touches and signature things, everyone learns from there hero. thats how it goes, srv plays like albert king and jimmi, he also had a style though. just like every blues artist.

  • Comment removed

  • until you're up there your opinion doesn't matter.

    nobody likes you

  • Comment removed

  • look at my comment on ottjakeaustin above you. and i dont think he needs to change it. he obviously chooses to do all the covers the same as the orignial artist did them.

  • no one ive heard has the same style as mayers pop music. every aspect of that is original. and thats how he got famous, by being original. he is my favorite artist, and one of the greatest guitar players ever in my opinion, (don't tell me that SRV and jimi are better, because i know) but i doubt he would have gotten famous from playing blues.

  • what are you talking about. he doesn't sound like dave. and if you've heard his acoustic work you wouldn't be saying that. and his lyrics are close to untouchable

  • what the fuck are you talking about

  • duh i'm talking about what a sellout John Mayer is. His music is targeted towards a certain audiance to make money, rather than being a creative original sounding musician..........and uh, I'm talking about John Mayers' boring version of this SRV tune that sounds just like the way SRV played it. Mayer lacks the ability to be creative, thus can't play a cover tune in a unique sounding way, so he has to play it like the original artist which is boring and lame.........

  • your 100 percent wrong in just about everything you say.

  • Comment removed

  • yeah alright man, why does he play with all the blues greats....why to they all respect mayer? mediocre at best...watch the intro to "im gonna find another you" like at the nokia theatre. hes obviously not mediocre. and im sure hes gotten this far because hes a complete zero as a songwriter.....shut the fuck up.

  • They respect him cuz his name is mayer and because his family has a lot of money to pay their paycheck

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • stfu for being a dumbass...you think stevie ray vaughan shit was original? he used the same licks in pretty much all of the songs he did. and about 90 percent of his songs were covers....

  • Comment removed

  • dude if he was so concerned with money he wouldnt be playing the blues...and seriously come on why are you hating so much on mayer who obviously has talent. go hate on some dumbass rapper, afterall thats who everyone listens to nowadays.

  • Comment removed

  • You're a fucking idiot he is not overrated, he has never even been rated on the top 100 guitarists. Van halen is overrated. I'm not a john mayer fan at all, but he does a good job when covering SRV.

  • perfectly put dudde
