They were definitely acting like stars to become stars. It worked better for Bowie. These guys were wrong time, wrong place, unfortunately. In retrospect one of the best bands of the 90's.
One of my favorite bands of all time.... I had an original VHS copy of this video... note that the recording says " cmon' Jaguar" at the end... he was the drummer during the recording of this song but Blackie Onasis is the drummer featured in the video.....
A band or individual doesn't have to be a popular, world renowned success to be a "star". Urge Overkill are stars in the eyes of their devoted fans and in their own hearts.
Thank you for this great post! I have never seen this video.
I have been a UO fanatic since I was a teenager in Chicagoland. I bought The Supersonic Storybook the month it was released and I haven't looked back! Their live shows are unbeatable. It is my greatest wish to see a new LP and tour.
Thanks for posting this, but I honestly don't get your comments. Saw them many times and they absolutely kicked it and should have made it huge. What's wrong with that? You make it sound like they were some sort of derivative label project. Not so my friend. Not so.
I Love UO, but I couldn't disagree more with the posters info comments. The were a touch-and-go label band and acted exactly like all midwestern alternative bands did at that time (royal crescent mob, dovetail joint, the connells, etc.) only with their own unique style. They caught a break and exploited it. Anyone with ambition would do that. They were a parody on the lifestyle that they would eventually embrace. God bless them. S
Tequila Sundae still gives me a boner. And I'm a girl :)
