The film version of SHANTARAM is on hold. Johnny Depp holds the filming rights to the book, and will be producing it. Directors have come and gone from this project, and now Johnny's commitments to other films have caused additional delays (the first delay was due to the Writer's Strike, and unrest in Mumbai.) I hope Johnny can find time to film this exciting epic, and star in it--but I'm not holding my breath.

my guess is you haven't read the book. it has basicaly nothing to do with bollywood or dancing in any way - it's the story of an australian bank robber who flees to india and gets involved in the bombay slum mafia... extremely good story. perfect for depp.
