US$200 (NOK1000) paid for each fish weighing 0,3 kg!
This is what is paid to fishermen in Norway for delivering live Wrasse-fishes: Symphodus melops and beautiful Cockoo (Labrus mixtus)! These fishes eliminates the need for chemicals and antibiotics in salmon farming because they eat sea lice (gyrodactilus salaris) directly from the skin of salmon. Look at this kind of fish in the video:
Just to clear things up in New Zealand this is a yellow tail kingfish. it is not the same species as an amber jack but is very close. just look in google images to see the difference. there are no yellow fins on an amberjack
this video is of a Yellowtail Kingfish which is found in New Zealand.
the kingfish is a species that falls into the Carangidae family (same as the amberjack). Amberjack refers to the three species of atlantic fish (Greater amberjack, lesser amberjacks and banded rudderfish).
so all you people who are on the nut of the amberjack can get
open invitation to anyone from anywhere, we often shoot kingfish like this ( my best is 33kg) . So come to New Zealand and I'll take you out and you can shoot one. Just pay the gas money :) I live in Kaitaia - the northernmost town in New Zealand.

actually i think i need to apologize to you - seems you can spear a decent sized kingfish/amberjack ; ) with a sling - just been reading about some dude who did it in NZ in a spearfishing magazine. I take it the sling is attached to your float? Spearing a dolphin fish with a sling? - now that is worth respect.
Congrats on a good sized kingi, i also shoot kingi's but im in the south island and we dont get many big ones down here, as for danny's comment about shooting kingi's with a sling HA! good luck with that!! im beginning to see what the problem might be...it could be that some amberjack can be called kingfish but an amber jack and kingfish are 2 very differnent fish beginning with the amber stripe running down the middle of the fish and its yellow tail
Danny, you're an IDIOT. This is a KINGFISH. I know you think you know what a kingfish is, but you live in FLORIDA. This is what is kalled a KINGFISH in NEW ZEALAND. DIfferent country, different fish, SAME NAME. Get it?
you can tel it is no kingfish because 1) it has a round mouth and head with small teeth (a kingie has sharp teeth with a pointed face like a wahoo or a cuda)......2) kingfish have ridges along their tails like a tuna has....(again i may be only 15 but ik what im saying)
excuse me no mean to crap on ur fish, good spearing btw, but thats no kingfish thats an amberjack, not commonly edible because they have worms called siguatera in spanish, im 15 and im a pretty experienced angler since i live in miami florida and have a house in the bahamas and thats no kingfish
you guys are all wrong. first of all worms in amberjack are WORMS not ciguatera. this is obviously a yellow tailed kingfish NOTICE THE YELLOW TAIL. hes doesnt mean its a king mackeral. another name for yellow tail is kingfish. this is not an amberjack.
yo look asshole.... do ur homework, if u knew anything u would know that in new zealand king fish and yellow tail are the same thing after lobsterman cleared it up for me i saw my mistake....but amberjack and kingfish are the same thing in new zealand, be a good little boy and go to google and type in new zealand amberjack...the first thing u get is a document stating that they are the same thing...so go fuck urself
Spearfishing CAN be the most eco way to do it. Doesnt mean its applied. But it can be and I think this video reflects a very ethical approach. The fisher handles the fish with much respect. Thankful fisher people who respect the ocean and dont want to deplete arent the ones buying dinner.
the guy taking out the fish doesnt have a tank on??? agree spearing has less bycatch and is more selective way of harvesting fish... if everyone had to spear their fish for dinner there would be alot more fish hahahaaaa
Nice kingi. I love the snorkel yell you had in there...:P
Spearfishing isn't a sport? Ok, you freedive 50 feet down, stay down, shoot a fish with a spear, and swim back up with said fish. Without blacking out or drowning. Spearfishing is the more active version of fishing...because you don't spearfish in a chair with a beer.
Spearfishing on Scuba isn't a sport IMO. I hate those people who do that. Killing off all our fish.
Ever tried spearing without scuba? Scuba spearing requires you to dive, point, and shoot. Which requires almost no effort on your part. Try snorkeling with a hawaiian sling, and you'll know a real spear sport. Scuba spearing is like hunting at a zoo.
first of all anyone that would kill a tarpon should be drawn and quartered. secondly that isnt a kingfish yall should really look in a book every now and then. spearfishing is a sport it takes way more energy to spearfish for a few eating size fish than it takes to catch a 300+ pound marlin, trust me i know i have done both.
Infact it is you that should read up my friend. This is a Sthern Hemisphere subspecies of Seriola lalandi (S. lalandi lalandi) or in NZ where this footage is taken, commonly called the Yellowtail Kingfish or simply 'kingi'. The closest thing you have to it in the states is probably S. lalandi dorsalis (Calif. Yellowtail) sometimes referred to as Yellowtail Amberjack.
I spearfish, and i would have to say that i DONTshoot something im not going to eat.I go sometimes and not even fire off my gun or pole spear.Just b/c the fish i see arent big enough for my liking.i have to laugh when"fisher men"say that it isnt a sport.i think your just mad b/c i get to choose what i want while you sit up at the top wishin a fish would bite your little worm.but both sports are fun, regardless.i just choose bein in the water and gettin to see what goes on in the under water world.
People call this fish different names in different parts of the world. In New Zealand this fish is called the yellowtail kingfish aka kingfish. This video was taped in New Zealand hence why the person who uploaded the video has called it a Kingfish
Oh and to all those idiots out there who think spearfishing is indiscriminate, you guys have absolutely no idea what so ever. firstly because you see the firsh before you fire you are able to judge size and target species and also if you've ever tried, its not fun wasting your shots and having to reload the gun cause it takes ages, in most cases you only get ONE shot because the fish is long gone before your ready to fire another shot. SPEARFISHING IS THE MOST EFFICIENT WAY TO CATCH FISH.
spear fishing is coward and stupid because you always KILL THE FISH. you can have all the fun with a rod/hook and then release the fish, but by spear, the fish is dead anyway, and sometimes, you kill fishs that dont taste good like tarpons, GT, jacks, marlin etc.. its just killing, no sport.
I like angling and spearfishing and I've got to say that I've never shoot a fish that I'm not prepared to eat. I've killed more fish unintentionally on a line because I've gut hooked them. To me, fishing isn't sport either. Why do people say that? Fishing is about killing fish that you intend to eat to me. Sinking a hook into a fish and playing with it for "sport" is indescriminate to me.
i love it how you catch and release fishers call it sport. fishing is about killing fish for food. yes its fun, and im not bagging fishing but seriously how can you say spearfishing isnt sport. physically it is far more demanding than fishing and you only take what you need. it is selective. no spearo is going to go out and just unnecessarily kill fish. it gets eaten
spearfishing is a type of fishing like hunting, you kill the fish, but it is for food purposes, maybe you should learn a little about what you are criticizing.
why do people watch these videos just to criticize? maybe they should get a hobby and man up like this great spearfisher
I don't remember criticizing anything. I don't watch vidoes to criticize, I just like to express my opinion when I feel like it. And i'm sorry but, do you know me? Who do you think you are telling people to "get a hobby" when in fact you know NOTHING about this person? And by the way, i wouldn't be talking about manliness because you're probably not even over 15.
ok well maybe you weren't criticizing but you still should have known that spearfishing is for eating, there no releasing a fish with a gaping hole, maybe you should get a hobby instead of arguing on videos?
dude spearfishing is fun thats why you look before you kill something, and its more fun than just putting bate in the water then waiting! Your probably just saying that because you havent even tried it yet!
I do both.... I've killed way more fish unintentionally with a Rod and Reel. They say that when you go striper fishing you kill 4% of your catch due to straining the fish or hooking them wrong. I could go out and catch 20 schoolies and one will die at that rate (one UNDERSIZED fish). I could go spearfishing for a striper and shoot once and get a keeper fish WITHOUT harming a single undersized fish! I like both but you cannot argue about which is the more "ECO" friendly.
Nice Kingie man, although not to sure about the '54' pound, i shot a kingfish in mahia around new year. and it looked similar if not bigger and i weighed it in officially, after bleeding so add a couple of kgs, for 30lb. but it was still 1 metre.
they put up an epic fight in the water, can only imagine what some of the 30kg plus ones can pull.
We call them Rainbow Runners in Hawaii, and if you come across a school of them like that your really really lucky. The meat is so excellent raw and it's called "sashimi" not "sushimi",lol,,silly dstick1, And yes,,,That meat is PRIME!!!!
u dumb bitch a king mackeral is called a king fish, this shit fish should not be allowed to be called a king fish...im from the south and we call this crap of a fish a yellow tail
Experienced divers carry several small pieces of coral or shells and when a fish is reluctant to come into spear range, rubbing or clicking draws them closer. Throwing up sand also will bring a fish closer and helps to camouflage the diver. Contact with coral should be avoided as this may damage the reef. Blue water divers will float on the surface 100 yards from their boat and continue to rap a dive knife or a softer object against their spear gun until a big one comes to investigate.
hey can some one tell me why the fish is not thrashing about just before it gets knifed/dispatched? is it becasue the fingers are in the gills or something ?
I've caught fish with by lure, bait, fly, rocks, bow & arrow, Spear and bare hands. I decide each and everytime if i will keep or release a fish or not. one thing i do like about the spear is that it is such a selective way to fish. No tiddlers and no accidental dameage to undersized fish
Which is more indiscriminate, a spearo taking SOME fish or a 25 hook long line or gill net taking ALL the fish? I love both line and spear fishing, I just don't agree with people saying spearfishing is indiscriminate when to my way of thinking it's jst the opposite, that's all. Peace out.
Hey loscochinosdelmar are you retarded? Fish get over being caught, I've caught fish, tagged them and released them, only to catch them again half and hour later!!! Releasing a fish properly isn't detrimental. What's worse, having a little hook in your mouth (most fish have no feeling in their mouths anyway) or having a massive spear in ya? Spearing is indiscriminate, if you shoot it it's as good as dead. How can you justify going out and spearing your bag limit every time?
Dude, take a chill pill. I'm not saying get your bag limit every time. My point is you don't shoot anything you aren't going to take. You'd be an absolute moron to think anyone would attempt to release a fish after it has been speared. Duh! Spearos only take fish they can see, not just whatever happens to jump on your hook, I don't know too many fish that have thrown themselves on to a spear. I line fish as well but in 60m I've no idea of what I will get as opposed to spearing individual fish
hahahha that`s to ligthen up the mood st00pidfart everybody thinks it`s this or that. for me what matters most is how it will taste after the grill and how my family and friends will enjoy that fish and the stories after. safe spearfishing brothers... by the way we call that mamsa here in bikol, philippines... correct me fellow bikolanos if i`m wrong ;)
This was filmed IN NEW ZEALAND where these fish are known as YELLOWTAIL KINGFISH. They are known as that in Australia too. Other people from other countries call them different names.
I don't like spearfishing (but I like fishing) as I find it indiscriminate and since there's no releasing a speared fish I'm against it....... but that's my opinion and no one go and start something because that's my opinion.
I actually think spearfishing is better than line fishing. Think about it, you only shoot what you target. Fishing catches what ever takes your bait, be it your target species or anything else. Then if it isn't gut hooked you drag it out of it's natural element struggle to unhook it and release it. Which is worse spearing your bag limit or catching it on rods and then carrying on and releasing just for sport? Speared fish will all be eaten and are in better condition than any shop bought fish.
ITS SIMPLE. you only shoot what you want. why does every one bring up the fact"well you cant release it " no kidding! spearos dont want to release what we shoot. we pull the trigger for a reason! we see it, we want it, we take it. obviously you just dont understand the sport. its the most conservative fishing out there.
hi stoopidfart, it`s a joke... the debate wether it`s a kingie or amberjack is getting serious so i figured i`ll lighten the mood. i think it`s a kingfish(yellowtail). safe spearing/freediving brother.
Seriola lalandi, 'kingfish' has many links to other species. closely related to the amberjack and samson but sorry people, this is the common yellowtail kingfish.
nice video, safe spearing mate dont mind them people telling you what fish is that, but WOW!!!!!!!!! that is one definitely very large catfish you got.
you'll should stop arguing about what type of fish that is. because kingfish describes many types of fishes, and a yellow tail kingfish is also known as a type of amberjack. it is very confusing and pointless to argue. unless of course you'll are taxonomy biologists.
ok well i live in the caribbean. i fish every weekend. maybe over there i guess you call them kingfish. if what you're saying is true, show me a picture of what you guys call an amberjack, because as far as we in the caribbean know it, thats an amberjack or a pretty gud imitation of one.
to further agree with hobitscom and Surferpunk22. That is definetly a school of Amberjacks. I was actually hoping to see a nice king, but sorry those are Amberjacks. lol. Kingfish do not have the long black stripe down the side of their bodies. That long black stripe and the shape of the mouth and the yellow tail and fins distinctly marks out the Amberjack, which is largest of a family of about 7 different jacks, some of which include the cavali, the horseye jack and the blue runner.
Doesn't matter what kind of fish it is. You got a great meat shot like a noob.

mjw789234 2 years ago
excuse me no mean to crap on ur fish, good spearing btw, but thats no kingfish thats an amberjack, not commonly edible because they have worms called siguatera in spanish, im 15 and im a pretty experienced angler since i live in miami florida and have a house in the bahamas and thats no kingfish
danny6694 2 years ago
you guys are all wrong. first of all worms in amberjack are WORMS not ciguatera. this is obviously a yellow tailed kingfish NOTICE THE YELLOW TAIL. hes doesnt mean its a king mackeral. another name for yellow tail is kingfish. this is not an amberjack.
mikeyzoomoo 2 years ago
yo look asshole.... do ur homework, if u knew anything u would know that in new zealand king fish and yellow tail are the same thing after lobsterman cleared it up for me i saw my mistake....but amberjack and kingfish are the same thing in new zealand, be a good little boy and go to google and type in new zealand amberjack...the first thing u get is a document stating that they are the same thing...so go fuck urself
danny6694 2 years ago

Killing off all our fish.
flyingace451 2 years ago
hey you dont think that scuba sprearfinshing is a sport!? try it and then you may have a differant opinion
WearingNoUnderwear 2 years ago

Yellowtail) sometimes referred to as Yellowtail Amberjack.
gmw44 2 years ago
its also called yellowtail kingfish or kingi in aus aswell, where the same species is found
fishboy1989 2 years ago 2

Yutaro44 2 years ago
Oh and to all those idiots out there who think spearfishing is indiscriminate, you guys have absolutely no idea what so ever. firstly because you see the firsh before you fire you are able to judge size and target species and also if you've ever tried, its not fun wasting your shots and having to reload the gun cause it takes ages, in most cases you only get ONE shot because the fish is long gone before your ready to fire another shot. SPEARFISHING IS THE MOST EFFICIENT WAY TO CATCH FISH.
mixxer56 2 years ago 2
The people that think spearfishing is indiscriminate are probably the same people who now don't want dogs used to herd cattle at freezing works
loscochinosdelmar 2 years ago
spear fishing is coward and stupid because you always KILL THE FISH. you can have all the fun with a rod/hook and then release the fish, but by spear, the fish is dead anyway, and sometimes, you kill fishs that dont taste good like tarpons, GT, jacks, marlin etc.. its just killing, no sport.
alexandrespz 2 years ago
I like angling and spearfishing and I've got to say that I've never shoot a fish that I'm not prepared to eat. I've killed more fish unintentionally on a line because I've gut hooked them. To me, fishing isn't sport either. Why do people say that? Fishing is about killing fish that you intend to eat to me. Sinking a hook into a fish and playing with it for "sport" is indescriminate to me.
BeigeLantern 2 years ago
i love it how you catch and release fishers call it sport. fishing is about killing fish for food. yes its fun, and im not bagging fishing but seriously how can you say spearfishing isnt sport. physically it is far more demanding than fishing and you only take what you need. it is selective. no spearo is going to go out and just unnecessarily kill fish. it gets eaten

puregenius09 2 years ago 6
spearfishing is a type of fishing like hunting, you kill the fish, but it is for food purposes, maybe you should learn a little about what you are criticizing.
why do people watch these videos just to criticize? maybe they should get a hobby and man up like this great spearfisher
aktjmiller 2 years ago
I don't remember criticizing anything. I don't watch vidoes to criticize, I just like to express my opinion when I feel like it. And i'm sorry but, do you know me? Who do you think you are telling people to "get a hobby" when in fact you know NOTHING about this person? And by the way, i wouldn't be talking about manliness because you're probably not even over 15.
lolnoodpop145 2 years ago
ok well maybe you weren't criticizing but you still should have known that spearfishing is for eating, there no releasing a fish with a gaping hole, maybe you should get a hobby instead of arguing on videos?
oh and by the way i am 21

lolnoodpop145 2 years ago
dude spearfishing is fun thats why you look before you kill something, and its more fun than just putting bate in the water then waiting! Your probably just saying that because you havent even tried it yet!
TheProductReviews 2 years ago

No bycatch
No bait
No lost tackle
No undersize fish
No fish of the wrong species

Zachry86 3 years ago

Peace out.
loscochinosdelmar 3 years ago 2
Hey loscochinosdelmar are you retarded? Fish get over being caught, I've caught fish, tagged them and released them, only to catch them again half and hour later!!! Releasing a fish properly isn't detrimental. What's worse, having a little hook in your mouth (most fish have no feeling in their mouths anyway) or having a massive spear in ya? Spearing is indiscriminate, if you shoot it it's as good as dead. How can you justify going out and spearing your bag limit every time?
cnralex 3 years ago
Dude, take a chill pill. I'm not saying get your bag limit every time. My point is you don't shoot anything you aren't going to take. You'd be an absolute moron to think anyone would attempt to release a fish after it has been speared. Duh! Spearos only take fish they can see, not just whatever happens to jump on your hook, I don't know too many fish that have thrown themselves on to a spear. I line fish as well but in 60m I've no idea of what I will get as opposed to spearing individual fish
loscochinosdelmar 3 years ago
hahahha that`s to ligthen up the mood st00pidfart everybody thinks it`s this or that. for me what matters most is how it will taste after the grill and how my family and friends will enjoy that fish and the stories after. safe spearfishing brothers... by the way we call that mamsa here in bikol, philippines... correct me fellow bikolanos if i`m wrong ;)

This was filmed IN NEW ZEALAND where these fish are known as YELLOWTAIL KINGFISH. They are known as that in Australia too. Other people from other countries call them different names.
I don't like spearfishing (but I like fishing) as I find it indiscriminate and since there's no releasing a speared fish I'm against it....... but that's my opinion and no one go and start something because that's my opinion.
................ BUT THAT'S ONE HUGE KINGFISH!!!
cnralex 3 years ago
I actually think spearfishing is better than line fishing. Think about it, you only shoot what you target. Fishing catches what ever takes your bait, be it your target species or anything else. Then if it isn't gut hooked you drag it out of it's natural element struggle to unhook it and release it. Which is worse spearing your bag limit or catching it on rods and then carrying on and releasing just for sport? Speared fish will all be eaten and are in better condition than any shop bought fish.
loscochinosdelmar 3 years ago
all your posts are spot on brotha
deathwithwings 3 years ago
ITS SIMPLE. you only shoot what you want. why does every one bring up the fact"well you cant release it " no kidding! spearos dont want to release what we shoot. we pull the trigger for a reason! we see it, we want it, we take it. obviously you just dont understand the sport. its the most conservative fishing out there.
deathwithwings 3 years ago
That's an Amberjack
boatrunner82 3 years ago
hi stoopidfart, it`s a joke... the debate wether it`s a kingie or amberjack is getting serious so i figured i`ll lighten the mood. i think it`s a kingfish(yellowtail). safe spearing/freediving brother.

Seriola lalandi, 'kingfish' has many links to other species. closely related to the amberjack and samson but sorry people, this is the common yellowtail kingfish.

nice video, safe spearing mate dont mind them people telling you what fish is that, but WOW!!!!!!!!! that is one definitely very large catfish you got.

muckdiver, you said catfish?
st00pidfart 3 years ago
you'll should stop arguing about what type of fish that is. because kingfish describes many types of fishes, and a yellow tail kingfish is also known as a type of amberjack. it is very confusing and pointless to argue. unless of course you'll are taxonomy biologists.
graemefkf 3 years ago
ok well i live in the caribbean. i fish every weekend. maybe over there i guess you call them kingfish. if what you're saying is true, show me a picture of what you guys call an amberjack, because as far as we in the caribbean know it, thats an amberjack or a pretty gud imitation of one.
downdislandsman4 3 years ago
to further agree with hobitscom and Surferpunk22. That is definetly a school of Amberjacks. I was actually hoping to see a nice king, but sorry those are Amberjacks. lol. Kingfish do not have the long black stripe down the side of their bodies. That long black stripe and the shape of the mouth and the yellow tail and fins distinctly marks out the Amberjack, which is largest of a family of about 7 different jacks, some of which include the cavali, the horseye jack and the blue runner.
downdislandsman4 3 years ago
We don't get amberjack in NZ (well almost never). Anyone with half a brain can see these aren't amberjack...
