I had the chance to spend the evening with him and friends after a concert in Germany in maybe 1980 (+), a truly stunning if kind of haunted person, impressive! Was one of my favorite singers in the early 80s (did not like his really weird stuff so much, but e.g. "cold song" or avantgarde covers like "falling in love again", we used his music (from tape recorders! if anybody remembers what that was) for aerobatics background music.

He passed away on August 6, 1983 at New York City's Sloan Kettering Hospital. 1983--how bizarre, because when I think of all the things this disease has done to the human race since that point to the world we live in, it makes me very sad.
