hmmm i didnt know theyd eat bird seed. i have a rabbit that is half wild half dwarf that loves bananas lol! maybe ill try bird seed next time i give her a treat. :)
@touchingwildhorses The first time we spotted Madame Lapin in our yard, she was underneath one of our birdfeeders eating the seeds that had fallen to ground. We sure miss her.....:(
I have a really important question. We have this tiny tiny baby rabbit in our yard, only a few days old at most, and he's been here since yesterday. His mother hasn't come back for him, so I am figuring she is dead. How can I capture the baby?
@HedgehogOutdoors Hi Hedgehog, I've never had to capture a baby rabbit so I typed in 'Trapping baby rabbits' on the internet and they had quite a few links with information. The two we had were so small, I could pick them up and they didn't try to get away. 'Madame Lapin', their Momma, was very use to me being around so she didn't mind at all. I always wore gloves. They even have links giving you information on how to care for them but they say to be very sure the Momma isn't still around.
@62747 I am pretty sure the mama isn't around. We waited all day yesterday, and this morning the baby is still here. I will google it. Thanks for the quick response, I appreciate it.
@cowsrock94 Yes, she was always calm when she came to eat out of my hand. It's been a long time since we've seen her. We see several rabbits in our yard but they won't let us come near them like "Madame Lapin" did. We sure miss her.
we have one that lives inside our pool fence. we have this big pergola thing over so its shielded from above and the rabbits about the biggest thing that can squeeze through the bars of the fence. it dissapears for about 4 months every year but then comes back, and we see about 4 little rabbits hopping around. its the same one because shes the only one willing to come close to us(about 10 feet nothing like this) or that recognizes cheerios shaking sound as "humans about to drop food"
@LarrySTalbot 'Madame Lapin' would usually smell my glove before she'd start to eat out of my hand. I'd feed her birdseed. It was fun to listen to her crunch away! :o)
@flyer0022f Thanks for watching my video! "Madame Lapin" is a girl. :o) She had two babies behind some bushes in our yard and we named them 'Hip" and "Hop"! That was long ago. We haven't seen her in a long, long time. :o(
@62747 Im sorry to hear that. :( The wild rabbit that was just hanging out in my dad's garden quit coming by or i haven't be going out at the right time. I guess it got tired of me chasing it and tryint to catch it.
we have a half tame one at our house. not near like this though. sometimes they wander off for awhile(they aren't afraid of you, might walk up near you, but still prefer to have/raise babies away from the garden where you sometimes dig, ect.), we have one that lives in the back of our house for most of the year, then disappears to a bushy area with brambles in the front yard for months, then comes back.
@LarrySTalbot I've tried to get close to the young ones we see in our yard but no luck. 'Madame Lapiin' was really something special! I sure miss her. :o(
@godgirlsguitars Yes, we miss 'Madame Lapin'. We see others running around the yard but they're not her. I wouldn't be surprised if these are her children or grandchildren. :o)
