I just did this and the first time I did it Igot it to finally suck the disc in but as soon as I turned it off and put the metal cover back on it wouldn't accept the discs anymore... :/ I don't understand that? why would it decide not to accept them after putting back the case is a bit strange... some help would be appreciated :)
So I recently got an old style 160GB PS3, model CECHP01. Like everyone else, this is the ONLY video I've found that shows this particular drive xD Unfortunately, the system I got was not taken care of, and whoever had it before disassembled the drive and lost a bunch of parts to the disc loader. I'm trying to find this drive on ebay, something that's non-working so I can just remove the disc loader (2:40). What's the specific model of this drive? KEM-410A only gets me laser assemblies
I found that while installing the top - flipping the drive to other side allows the troublesome white peg to fall right where it belongs without having to hassle with the knife.Snap the left side first the right. hope this helps. info wars com
I'm having this exact problem with mine, 40gb Canadian ps3. You are right there is a trillion videos of the other mechanism, but none of the dual laser assembly. Having watched your fix, im 100% certain mine is having the same issue with the pin not seating correctly on the left side.
Still havent gotten it to seat properly though its really hard to see. will keep trying... Thanks again for the video and awesome explanation.
@ed3dfx HI. Thanks for watching the vid. I hope you can get it fixed. Im not sure if the drive is the same in the 40gb and my 80gb. There are lots of moving parts inside that drive and all work in unison. Just look at the white knobs on the top part of the drive and see where they are supposed to fit into when it goes back together.
regarding the disc feeder shown at 3.10, when I put it back on the drive, the 2 arms don't move back and forth properly, the parts underneath them get in the way. When you clicked it back in place, you could move the arms freely. When mine is clicked back in, they don't move freely. Everything on the board looks fine though. What do I do?
Sorry, I sold the system for parts on eBay. It got the YLOD again, got a slim now :) miss backwards compatibility though. Thx Sony, you really take care of your customers! Jerx
last time i made the blue light go off, (put in a disc half way, turn it off, turn it back on and use the eject button) then i restored my PS3and drive, and the disc drive worked until today when I took black ops out early and now it's broke again. I tried to restore again today but it didnt work this might be because the blue light was on this time. trying it now tough.
Thanks guys, glad the video helped! My ps3 finally died again due to the YLOD. It's currently on eBay for parts. Thx Sony for using environmentally friendly lead-free solder, my ps3 couldn't have died without it!
Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you...it took me 3 weeks to find this drive on youtube or anywhere on the net. the 3 gears fell out of the loader tray and I hadnt a clue where they went. I followed your instructions and it works perfect now. Thanks again!!!!
I have seen a lot of stupid PS3 drive videos with stupid music that are overall useless. You sir however made a golden video and have helped me to fix my PS3. You are a king among men. King among men.
The laser doesnt cause the disc to spin, it just reads it. The drive has to be put back together correctly in order for the disc to load and spin right. There should be some good videos that show how to replace the laser. You can see if the disc is spinning by just placing it on the drive and snapping on the magnetic white holder, without having the top of the disk drive case on.
Your second question, please watch Part 2 of my video. It shows what the disc does when the top case of the drive is not put back together right. After watching part 1 and 2 of my video, you should be able to install the top of the disc drive back on correctly. Let me know if you have any other Q's.
Hi. Regarding your first question, not sure what you mean by mech? Mechanism? Anyway, I have not replaced a laser on a PS3 but Im pretty sure you dont mess with that section when replacing the laser.
Also, I notice the disk does not even spin when inserted, I state in the last question that I ordered a new laser. Will the laser cause the disk to spin again? Thanks, any help is appreciated.
Nice one dude! Thank god for your video!

I ordered a new laser, exact same model. KES 410a
Wanted to ask whether removing the mech itself would include taking out the little gears which at the bottom of your drive so the mech is released?
Sorry for my terrible description of the question.
