Great playing.

And a good tone for this kind of music, too. I see a lot of players playing classical pieces on bass guitar with a modern trebly hi-fi clank tone. Granted, that sound does have it's place, but I much prefer sounds like your's. Nice smooth, bassy, and warm.

That tone only works to make notes in chords seem clearer instead of muddy, for lines like these it's just annoying

I think its a scrunchie. Ive seen upright guys and Bill Dickens also use them to mute the unwanted strings from droning.
