The clip with Kurama having short hair and fighting hiei, is from a flashback-memory. Apparently before Kurama and Hiei paired up to steal the artifacts, they knew each other in Jr. High School. Hiei was in human world searching for Yukina, and met Kurama. They are sparring, not actually fighting.
