  • The thing about having locs is it shouts to the world that you don't care what people think. If you really cared about pleasing people, you wouldn't grow locs in the beginning. To hell with pleasing people.

For all those who want to associate locs with crime, ask yourself when is the last time you saw a mugshot of somebody with locs. There are more bald men who committ crimes than dreaded men. Where is their stereotype?

  • @ShamelessNation Thats the truth.

  • @LocBoyzz23 I cut mine to get my taper. I got tired of not having that normal hairline.

  • Hey I went thru the same thing in the late 60's my mom wouldn't let me wear a afro,(but I did anyway) because of the sterotype that went along with it and how nappy hair was seen during her time. I'm way way grown now and she had some gripes about me locing and when my daughter started locing, I was looked at like I was leading my child down the wrong road. I could go on, but I'll stop. I'm glad the two of you have joined up to spread the word. I love it!

  • I'm real deal diggin' this video. You two have done a excellent job with this production. As of now, I'm on my own loc journey & you two have made me even more inspired to keep going with my locs. I might even make me me a video bout my journey so look out for it. Peace, Love & Soul...

  • It's so refreshing to hear two young people like myself speak intelligently and articulately on such a controversial issue. I agree with everything both of you said. Now of only I could get my parents to agree... lol

  • Hey Zayloc23 how long does it take for dreads to loc

  • Great vid, Real talk, keep it up!!!

  • I already told shai I loved the video, so I must tell you also. This collab was brilliant. Very informative, honest and interesting to listen to. Good stuff!

  • this is a good video stay up the both of yall

  • As African Americans, our hair texture was never meant to be straight or processed. The natural look is what our culture has carried from the beginning of time. I think that we should not let society dictate to us how we choose to style our hair. I do think, that we as African Americans should keep locs neat and clean and give off a professional look. In addition to that, An individual with dreads should speak with intelligence and not add t the stereotypes.

  • This was a really good video. I had to warn the parents about Shai's "sh*t*" word :-). I think you both did a great job articulating your message about why you got locs...very positive and definitely the RIGHT path for you both....keep up the GREAT work!!! :-)

  • I love it!!! Made my day to check out this video....thanks for spreading positive energy on Youtube...

  • Nice Job Fam. When I Go Out And Do My Thing, The First Thing I Hear Is "Wow Titus! Your Dreads Are Amazing And They Really Suit You" All Folks Dont Look At The Hair Style In A Negative Manner. But On Some Real Stuff, People Draw Attention Specifically Because Of Dreads. Like Shay Said...........These Rappers Bruh Smh. Thats All Imma Say.......And Malcolm Jamal Warner Was The Ish With Dreads Lol. And He's Very Intelligent. Whoopi Goldberg, Etc. But The Rappers Is Making Us Look Bad. Straight Up!

  • @TitusRiyadh010 agreed!

  • this video is hella insprin yall keep doin it big mayne

  • I cut mine a while ago because the goal im trying to pursure in life isn't fit for them, but they are becoming more acceptable to everyone around. But there are those stereotypes out there, especially in the South.

  • yo zay wats dat song called you had in the begining

  • @zoeboa12 Beautiful by damian marley

  • Hey bro Ive been watching your videos for quite awhile and I appreciate everything yall been doing with the whole dreadhead movement. When I was younger i grew out my locs but i was young and didnt have a defind reason for doing so. Now that im 18 i deceided to grow out out my locs and never cut them because now i start a new chapter in my life. Adult hood lol. but ya man I enjoy your poetry to bro. Im doing a music thing so cool to see poetry and all forms of art. but yea big ups

  • @lenoxevans Thank you family! And no problem this is what i started a youtube for. I have the message that can inspire the masses and youtube is the best way to set up for that---and thanks for listenin to my poetry fam! God Bless!

  • Best video yet. homegirl speaking some real shit.

  • yea i believe society is start to accept dreads... i like makin people fell different about our race... like when i go out i open doors and to speak to alot of people and i know in they mind they are like "damn i didnt expect that"

  • yo nice vid bra. I hate wen black or white people stereotype us for the natural way we were are hair. its some silly shit. Yall kept it real and wut both of yall are sayin. Now im not religous man, but I am a very spiritual man. and to me I grew my locs as apart of my spiritual growth of my mind, body, soul and spirit. Mind u since I was about 14 I have alwayz planned locs up my hair permanantly from 25 and beyond. Bless up to ya both!. 1

  • Great Vid! I support everything said. I like to see young folks that understand the concept of this thing we call life. " do not tell me that the sky is the limit, when there are clearly footprints on the moon." Peace.

  • The Reason I Grew Dreads Was Because I Had Sum Then I Cut Them & I Was Tired Spendin All My Mula On A Hair Cut Also I Wanted My Own Image I Wanted To Mix It Up A Lil Bit & Bein That Im From New Orleans Ppl Discriminate Me

  • That was good i like that :)

  • tell u like i told shai....- really really great work here!!!! it's EPIC for real!! and yur take on how ppl view dreadheads...is so true...my moms didnt want me 2 lock my hair at all!!! but i did.....cuz i wanted 2...!!! great work :-)

  • aye im feeling this shit here real talk yall went in deep yall did yall thang on this speech or wutever yall had too prove and also said what had to be said about how ppl stereotype ALL dread heads and ppl portray themselves in todays society(ima dread head myself) and some diiferent race ppl feel like im a low class black person and should be under them...but i feel like long as i do what it take too make my future higher than those who looked me like that i then i then prove them wrong

  • @100YungJuice most def fam you gotta join tha race with me to prove em wrong

  • good video

  • nice vid

  • Aye thats whats up. Bouth of you got it right man.

I don't wear dreads...I rock locs...lol

  • Good video, alot of good opinions.

  • i got a question, my hair is currently short...i just got a fade..should i wait and get a even haircut before growing my hair out..or does it matter?

  • Is prettiboishai a male or female?

  • @LICKPIMP i cant tell..

  • @LICKPIMP I'm sure a female. :).

  • @LICKPIMP look up the word "androgynous"...thats what i closely identify with.

  • I couldn't agree anymore...I be tryin to tell these people...they're so misguided sometimes, but if you inform them, then hopefully they'd understand more...People look at locs so bogus nowadays and it be blowin me...but I truly feel u...I got my reasons and I stand by mine...u feel me?

  • great video we had to go back and visit some of your old videos cause Quan growing his hair again keep up the good work and thanks for all your help

  • This is all very very true

  • I never knew locs was seen as being so negative in the US probly cos i never had that experience here but i think it does exist or people are a bit more reserve with their opinion to the face... either way i dont give a dump, lol! My hair my life. I think times are changing though. Both your locs are looking fab btw, keep educating and inspiring.

  • very well put colaboration to watch while i'm retwistin my locs

  • Wow this video was awesome no doubt! I wish I could give yall I big big hug :3

Ya know when I was younger, I used to think that locs where like...roots....Weird right? Well when think about it, it sorta makes sense. Locs are the roots of our culture and tells a story as they grow...So i guess i was thinking in a nice way when i was little. I was always fascinated by locs and I plan getting sister locs in the future. Not until I get my life situated though!

  • great video guys..omg .spectacular view points..lets us dreads heads take this world by storm..

    -one love

  • I was going get dreads but my parents said "no"!!! I'm an A/B student so they thought that dreads would mess up my image to be successful. People are always going to have that negative view of dreads but its all about how you carry yourself.

  • Zayloc, nice retwisted hair!!! But Zay, good points, you def. know what you're talking about!! Especially as a male locka!!! I'm glad that people our age have some sense and good minds about locs.

  • @LeslieMoniqueTV Appreciate that! Yea we had ta kick some knowledge!

  • What's good my boi? You and shai was on some real talk. When I do my vid I'll respond to dis right here. Big ups!!! Pe@ce

  • very true my mom said when i get locs i need to start dressing well etc. i just got rid of my dreads though, i have thick but fine hair so it would require alot of maintainence so im going to get them again when my hair thickens (im 12). also i liked how u said that about culture but you know more cultures have dreads like sufi muslims, asian kings, and indians. I am a huge fan keep it natty god bless

  • nice

  • 5* 2 U BOTH,SHAY & ZAY.YALL GOOD PEPS...LOL PUTTN DIS N MY FAVS

  • i like the way both of you think..My reason for changing from plaits to dreads which im starting to loc now, is because of themaintnence of braids and stuff and im just inlove with the idea of getting dreadlocs, i have been for about 6 months and my mom finally agreed so now im on my 1 month journey...nice video

  • I had cornrows as well, and I wore them for 2 years and they are too much maintenance because after awhile they lose sheen and frizz up and have to be taken out, hair has to be washed, blow-dried....we started our dreads for the same reason...

  • the most anticipated collabo lol great vid

  • NICE

  • this was a good video i just started mine yesterday and lookin forward to my journey yo videos gave me inspiration but ima put a vid up soon so check it out and let me know wat u think

  • Zay man yall got down with this keep it up

  • Great video as always!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @zayloc i feel what you saying. you are obviously trying to be a positive individual and I respect that man.

@prettiboishai as far as the hip hop community thing. I talk about that almost everyday. People follow the hiphop community religiously. when i got dreads i dint know they were dreads & thought i was being different. I basically wanted twists. but months after I started i noticed many others with the same thing but most were influenced by wayne. but i know why i have em so Im straight

  • Luv it! Speak on it!

Shai, my thoughts exactly! Ppl believe so much of wut they see in the media instead of seeking knowledge.

Zay, it always amazes me that ppl think locs r a "lazy" style. But so many ppl do. If they truly took the time to understand the journey & the process of cultivating and caring for our locs, they would see that it takes much patience...even if you freeform or do very little maintenance, it still takes time. The total opposite of LAZY!

Much respect to both of you!

  • @MissMash76 Im sayin tho! I say dont knock until you try it...locks is a lot of keep up if you ask me. ESPECIALLY at the beginning

  • Whaaaat the pioneers of this YouTube loc journey the knowledge and wisdom of 2 beautiful minds absolutely how I feel and you guys couldn't have said it better big ups made respect

  • Love this collabo , wanna be in the next one...
