Great review. Lets not forget that the director, David Cronenburg, is also Canadian. If you like The Fly I strongly suggest checking out his other films like Scanners, The Brood, Shivers, Videodrome, Rabid, Dead Ringers. I really liked his movie Crash but it's not for everyone. His newer movies Spider, History of Violence and Eastern Promises while not really horror movies are still amazing.
the fly 1986 monster suit wasn't that scary but is the creepiest monster ever now the fly2 monster was really scary and creepy i give it a 9 on the monster scale second best from alien monster costume the original one from the first alien movie
Well a remake can reintroduce a new generation to a movie. The original was a cheesy 50's b-movie that had a great idea but poor execution, same can be said about the 1982 remake of The Thing
The Fly (1986) is a great remake, that is a very rare thing to accomplish nowdays.
As for The Fly 2 (1989) I actually enjoyed it just as much as the first film, although it wasn't anything new or original it was still very entertaining especially the last 15 mins with all those awesome Special Creature/Make Up Effects.
Great remake, what do you think of these other horror remakes? The Thing, The Blob, Dawn of the Dead, The Hills Have Eyes, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, King Kong 2005, Night of the Living Dead, Cat People, My Bloody Valentine 3D, Last House on The Left, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Halloween?
The Thing: Amazing, John Carpenter has great effects and his score really works for the film The Blob: Never seen THHE: Saw original, not the remake IOTBS: Saw original, not the remake King Kong 2005: Pretty cool, though I wish they hadn't added that insect scene NOTLD: Never saw Cat people: I WANT to see that! MBV 3-D: Meh, it's kinda too cliche for my liking LHOTL: thought the remake was alright, never saw the original TCM: Saw original, not remake Halloween: It was okay, a bit slow to start
Acting, effects, and story aside (yes these are all great) it just seems people tend to forget the great musical score. I mean the final piece of music that plays when he is begging to be killed is just so powerful for a sciencefiction flick. Is a pretty much let down that the 2nd one was so much a letdown.
I remember watching the original when I was younger, But I don't think I've ever actually seen the remake. I'll have to try to watch it next time I get the chance though. Another good review Stephanie :).
Indeed. I thought the original Fly's crazy ending was creepy though. If I remember correctly, he was stuck on a spider web screaming for help.
Haha.
Onto the remake, Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis were my favorite actors from the 80's. They both starred in another movie called "Earth Girls Are Easy" which was major fun.
well kaiju has nothing to do with having to be a giant monster, kaiju means strange creature, daikaiju are giant monsters, and kaijins are humanoid monsters or mutants.
i'm sorry if i sounded rude,i was replying to hewylewis's comment, about the fly not being counted as a kaiju,i just wanted to explain to him that kaiju doesn't just apply to giant monsters.again i'm sorry if it seemed i was being rude.i hope i didn't offend you in any way.
Hey man its cool. You don't have to worry about offending me yo :D. I was going to comment on that I just never got around to it. I'm glad you actually did it. :D:D
Saw this one in the theater-great film, tragic story but some of the fly make up effects in the end are kind of cheesy but overall a great film. Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis are great together. Good review.
