@memutic I was a neuroimaging researcher in a previous life, and a "human phantom". Each scanner has unique imperfections that can cause systematic bias between machines or drift over time. I was used to calibrate, or at least to be able to say that the differences weren't enough to affect measurements much. I got scanned at least once per month for several years.

T1 weighted is best for looking at brain structures (like black holes,) while T2 is better for looking at non-enhancing brain lesions.
