  • classic tv, i want that one

  • Well, Australia still has 2 years left.

I don't see the point, our analog signal is better than our digital (digital keeps cutting out, weird lines, distortion etc.) so why cut me off?

  • love the TV's!

  • she didnt even get to finish her sentence. those signal switching b@#$%$s.

  • Pretty cool idea for a video. Nice upload.

  • Beautiful TVs you have.

  • Interesting video. I had forgotten how "loud" the TV channel changer dial was on our old television sets.

  • Here in the UK were just about to lose our analogue TV. My area already has. I'm keeping analogue going by using the UHF RF signal from the modulators of my 2 SKY boxes vcrs etc. Adding the signals onto one coax cable then adding them to 2 TV RF boosters in series before feeding the output of the second one to a cheap set top antenna in my loft. I can then use the same sort of antenna with TVs in ANY room in the house and just about get a strong enough signal to minimise RF noise!

  • good ole Eric Smith on Channel 7...

  • woow that tv is in decent condition.

  • That TV looked awesome! Did you buy a converter for it?

  • Hehe I'd like to see an Xbox hooked up to one of those.

  • @commhealy lmao me too

  • The analog shut off is just an abomination to these fine working old TV's. Hopefully they're working fine with a DTV box.

  • @Trance88 Some work well with them and others don't. In general you can work around any issues easy most of the time. In Canada we have until August this year for analog, except there won't be DTV to replace it in many places.

  • damn look at that hd tv

  • can you rig up these old tv's to run digital?

  • goodbye old faithful

  • Its gay that they got rid of analog signal. I really like the old TVs because in the old days they knew how to make TVs look awsome. I hate the stupid ass converter boxes. They should all be destroyed with fire because they are an abomination to mankind!

  • why didn't you leave it on black eyed peas..?? great tvs P.I. going to DTV 2015!

  • Circular TV??!?!

  • @HybridPineapple

Yep, many tv tubes used to be circular.

  • Those Vintage TV Set's have very good Analog tuners, I have A Citizen TV from 1988 which is actually capable of picking up a few analog channels without an external antenna!

  • Those sets are GORGEOUS!! Can you use them for regular, every day use? Or do you only turn them on for special occasions?

  • In Canada some broadcasters won't use over the air at all after our Summer of 2011 transition.

Here in Lambton County CTV, Global, and CHCH might only be available over Satellite or Cable after our transition.

  • damn this is going to happen in the UK soon, i no of a few people that live in places where they just cant digital tv.

  • get a digital television adapter for analog tv's

  • i live in Flushing, I'm an amateur radio operator, and I'd love to see your collection of old sets sometime .... how wonderful !!!!!

  • Nice sets! I too had hoped to record the end of analog broadcasts on my 1947 RCA 648PV rear-projection set (I have a clip of the set here on YouTube), but I missed WXYZ, then tried to catch WJBK's analog shutdown, only to find out that they were going to run the "converter how-to" info for a couple of weeks.

  • Wow! Nice sets. I wonder how did you maintain them in service all those years since these days it is hard to find many parts for repairs in case if they break down.

  • love that set

  • Thiis for the final time your watching MSN Detroit.

  • This HDTV switchover truly represents the American society of today. Lets switch TV over to digital, then we can free up more bandwidth so even more ungrateful idiots can misuse the latest in hand held tech gadgets, while driving, and cause more accidents. In fact the new Motto of the U.S should be, "If it ain't broke, still fix it". Now that I have said it I should mention that you have a very nice TV collection. I've heard that those early Zeniths are hard to get going sometimes.

  • get over yourself.

I am guilty as anybody of buying gadgets, but I also have enough common fucking sense not to use them while driving. Never!

Have fun making more blanketed statements, you joke.

  • My original point was that the switch to digital HDTV was disruptive, poorly executed, expensive, and possibly unnecessary. But for what purpose? More cell phones and blackberries? So stupid "reality shows" can be seen in high definition? The existing analog NTSC format worked well and reliably for decades, the HDTV format has been anything but and has cost the taxpayer billions of dollars to switch over, billions that could have been spent elsewhere.

  • Sorry, just a combo of bad things going on when I wrote before. Your comment came off as very soapbox-ish when I read it

Thing is I agree with some of your statement. The transition was clumsy at best, uncoordinated, and very expensive. It wasn't for the sake of "reality shows" though. With any technological item, there will always be the need to be bigger/smaller, quicker, clearer, etc. This is just another case of progression, although I will agree that it was handled was poorly planned.

  • @OlegKostoglatov watch?v=s7E7FVMcz_Y

  • @OlegKostoglatov what I don't like about the new Digital format it this (when not connected to cable, just using an antenna)......on the old format even if a signal was weak you could at least see it, even if the quality was less than good at least it was there. It seems that on this new digital format you either get the signal or you don't and there is no in between

  • I hate digital cable and satellite should only be digital my portable tv that i cant get the chance to make a vid about cause every thing is digital i pick up some channels but there ether infomercials or spanish i pick a 1 American channel but it barely has sound

  • now that the analog broadcasting is over, do you have plans on purchasing a digital tv or a set top box?

  • Those sets really have good pictures...and I can really hear the bass in the sound on the Zenith.

  • Both those sets are really beautiful!

I would like to add that I'd like to see descriptions of the sets in the video (first is a late 1950's RCA, the second is older, possibly a Zenith)

  • and in glorious Black and White (pun on in living color). i bet sets like these would have seen the first sign on in 1947/48 in Detroit. for WJBK, WWJ, & WXYZ.

  • June 12th is the dies ater of the old American television which has accompanied so much history. Deepest sympathy!

  • Very cool :) life is life

  • that Zenith has a beautiful picture on it! Although the RCA Victor is not without it's charm.

  • Beautiful analog TV and still alive, despite the end of analog broadcast! It should be preserved for future generations!

  • That porthole is a lovely thing to look at.

  • dat is a pretty good signal!
