Hi, I want to know how old is your African Grey and how do you get your bird to talk so much. I have an African Grey and she is 7 months old. All she says is 'Coco' even though I teach her and talk to her everyday, still she can't pick up new words. Do you do anything special with your bird?
@MsLulua Hi - McCoy is a little over 4 years old - and never said much of anything till he was about a year old - so don't worry! 7 months old is very young :)
I don't really do anything to teach him - he just spends a lot of time with us. He's out of his cage about 12 hours a day, just hanging out with my son, my grandkids, and I, and he just picks things up as he pleases. I do talk to him a lot, and try to answer his questions... :)
Lol is an awesome bird i got a green cheek conure cause my dad doesnt want meto have a big parot like a A.G OR B&G Macaw im onyl 12 though my GCC only bites me =/
You stupid bitch! Someone should cut your arms off and stick you in a cage! You stupid bitch! Why don't you let its wings grow back and open a window? Because it will fly away from your ugly ass and never come back! Do you really think that fucking bird knows what it's saying? You ignorant whore. You you should be a shamed of yourself!
Sorry - I don't know what you mean... peeled off? There is what looks like a really soft spot, where his bottom beak meets his neck - but it has always been there, never peeled off. Don't know if that answers your question, though - sorry!

Umm, I think your McCoy is a female. The huffing and grunting thing is a female bonding thing. Chasey, my female Grey Congo does the same thing to me, and ONLY me. I would recommend getting a blood test done to determine McCoy's gender.
A little bit more training and he'll be able to watch himself in YouTube... See, he loves the mouse. He's pretty cool and very smart! Also cute! I love when he says his name.
He just does it himself, mostly - he decides to try to say something he's heard us say, practices a bit, then says it pretty clear! Sometimes it's just "echoing" - saying everything he knows - but sometimes it's even in context, and I swear he's really trying to communicate! Pretty cool, huh? We have taught him a few little tricks, but the words - he decides on his own, what he wants to say!!
Not cheap to buy one - about $1000 - $2000... but well worth it! Keeping him isn't too expensive though - fresh food and water daily - and he eats like a bird... lol!
Lots of cleaning up, though - at least till you get him potty-trained!! :D
Oh, McCoy -- you definitely graduated from the University of Naughty but Adorable. Get your beak off that mouse! And let Mom go to work. Somebody has to buy the pellets.
He only does that when I'm getting ready for work - I think he's crying, sort of... :( One comment on "McCoy cries" video says they thought their bird was saying he wanted to make love... I don't see it tho, since he only does it when he knows I'm leaving :)
hes a hoot..lol..love the randomness of it all. did he just say..f..u? lol..ahh regirgitation..he really loves ya! lol. love it when he repeats what u are sayin..no..macoy..ahht.lol..i look like a football. lol ok.

@SuperJorunn No - no cat! But he does make a purring sound, at times! Don't know where he got that!
ZephyrTrish 1 year ago
That was a mating sound and act not a cry.. I found that out the hard way..with My Grey, She thinks that I am her mate..

Sometimes my Grey does this little 'cry' too. I didn't realize that's what she was doing!

prob a stupid question but generally are these type of birds good with ppl or do they discriminate?
gartner10112 1 year ago
@gartner10112
We have been socializing him since he was a baby, so McCoy is good with most people - but in general. they usually tend to bond with just one person.

I realize his beak below is a bit peeled off, is that normal because my parrot bottom beak is semi-peeled off

It could be that the parrot suffers from seperation anxiety... maybe.... I'm just saying...
cvoc37 3 years ago
It makes no difference the gender if she isn't breeding McCoy or housing him/her with another.
poisonyourself 2 years ago
Nah, I had a male CAG (DNA verified) that did the same thing when he wanted something; I don't think it's a gender trait.

He just turned 2, in August - I think he's rather precocious, myself! Probably because he gets as much attention as a human toddler :)

How long did it take you to teach him all that stuff?? Or does he do it himself?
shannonB576 3 years ago
