  • Another song i remember from the mid fifties, Allegany State Park during the summer. Used to listen to the juke box at the Red House.

  • @brownindian17

    Yes Indeed.

  • Jim Lowe was a disc jockey at WNBC Radio in New York City when he recorded this. :) He did voiceover for radio spots on the side.

  • Original Recording !! All right !! When this came out, I lived in Riverside, Ca., and there was a little dive right next to our house called the 'Green Door'..we thought it was written for this little bar..we would walk by it and look into the peephole in the door.

  • @sagehopper2006

    Ha...Good stuff...Thanks

    Hwaj5300

  • The Cramps perfected this tune my friends! Period!!!

  • @Necro0000

    Hwaj5300

  • @Necro0000 The Cramps can't even carry the tune.

  • @gabbie44tex

Reiterate Never heard of the Cramps......Except in my leg once or twice

    Thanks

    Hwaj5300

  • nice. i'm working on one too.

  • This song was #1 for 5 weeks in 1956.

  • What a wonderful video, hwaj5300! This is the exact version of the song that I remember my mother having. I've been looking for it, remembering particular nuances in this particular rendition. Thanks for sharing your vision of this great song in a video!

  • @MirandaLantern

Hey Miranda A great big Thank you.....I try to post originals and make them a little interesting to watch

    Hwaj5300

  • Fu*ck all that, I used to listen to this as I got my ass whipped after a crazy Friday night ("one more night with out sleepin as I thought about the irony while I got my ass whipped") in 1972 Morris Illinois while my parents listened to this song on the radio as .... well you know what I mean. Christ that hurt inside and out.

  • Heavens to Murgatroid! What an utterly delightful monatge! And I've ALWAYS loved this classic novelty number from the 1950's. It's such a FUN song! And love that boogie woogie piano! Strictly from coolsville, daddy-o! KUDOS! THANKS for sharing it with us! You've MADE my day & my weekend! :)

  • @JubalCalif

Wow what enthusiasm words escape me except thanks

    Hwaj5300

  • well done

  • @songcatcher101

Thanks Song catcher It make the effort worth it

    Hwaj5300

  • Well done - many thanks.

  • 'Unique' as this song is, in many respects, it has pretty much the same theme as 'Hernando's Hideaway', which was a very big hit, just a few years earlier. Both songs were very clever--and well done, IMO.

  • @iotbs7

    Hi Lotbs7

Same theme perhaps ....... but I like this much better

    Thanks for the comment

    Hwaj5300

  • Fantastic!! Great song and video Thanks for putting it together and posting it!

  • @lp1330

    Thanks lp1330

I find it hard to come up with songs that are not posted

other copies on the tube for sure Thanks for the comment

    Hwaj5300

  • I guess I should have clarified, when I said using your imagination, it was directed to things nowadays. Back then, you would have never thought firsthand about all the bad stuff now although yeah, there was some but not at all to the level it has reached now!

  • I know what you mean JbrickM100A

I definitely Know what you mean

    Thanks

  • Great song, one you can really use your imagination to--drugs, sex, et al. Remember it well. Also, one of the first Dot records with the new label, that is, the yellow "D", the red "o", and the blue "t". Great video too, hwaj5300.

  • Yeah but back in these days the world was more innocent or maybe just because I was only a young Teenager at the time

Maybe a sheltered life but dont remember drugs from back then although I am sure it went on

Thanks for the memory, and kind remarks

    Hwaj5300

  • AWESOME - Thanks so much for posting!!! Really love this perfectly composed piece.

  • Great job. I posted it on my facebook and played on 1070 KNTH Radio, 10/1/09 at 5:20AM.

  • Thanks for posting this. Great tune.

  • #1 in 1956 for 3 weeks. A song about people smoking 'POT' Heh!

"Saw an eyeball peepin' through a smoky cloud behind the green door"

  • Thanks for the real version. Another YouTube site has a remake.

  • Excellent job with an excellent song; not to nit pick but it should be hospitality's thin there not "hospitalities thin there." God Bless You!!!!!!

  • wow Billy jack

    Two things

    1... I didn't know that.

2.... I am really glad your trying not to nit pick.

    Thanks

    Hwaj5300

  • You did a great job, don't change it

  • Great old song ... and let me say that you did well.

( I know how hard it is to put a video with a song.

I still struggle with my uploads on my 'Singer/Songwriter channel)

  • Hey 123ThisIsMe

Thanks sometime it seems "you bite off more than you can chew" in making a video the effects I wanted to achieve here had soon changed as i got into the song. If you noticed it went from letter to letter to word to word. Oh well don't want to ramble on.

    Thanks I appreciate it.

  • really good job thanks for sharing it wtg!!!!

  • You are welcome

  • Your effort was not in vain buddy, at the end of the day you made a great and fine Job! Congratulations hwaj5300!

  • I don't think we'll ever know!

  • I remember that song when I was a did. I consider this as great be-bop music back in 50's

  • Sorry about the typo. the word did was really meant to be kid.

  • Behind The Green Door is your subconscious mind, where your real self is. This is where all your secrets are. Be aware that all your thoughts and actions are behind the green door before you think or act. This will prevent future problems to solve in your life.

  • I got my first clock radio in Sept of 1956. It was a birthday present from my folks and the first song that I ever awoke to on it was "Green Door." The song was brand new and this was the first time I had ever heard it. Loved the song and the era. Hearing it again brought back a lot of memories. Great job hwaj5300! Sounds and looks 100% in my book.

  • did you notice the back up singers had just as much input into the record as Jim Lowe had?

Dot was an interesting record company....the follow-up recordings of their artists just didn't have the original punch as the first hit.

  • very nice and THE ORIGINAL TUNE! I Like that.

  • Heck, I'd heard of the Marilyn Chambers infamous X-rated "Behind The Green Door" before I found out about this rockin' tune. Later found out it was a #1 pop chart hit in 1956 for Lowe, who later spent many years as a DJ on WNEW. Very nicely done!

  • Loved it! Now you got me wondering. Just what is behind that green door? :-)
