Original Recording !! All right !! When this came out, I lived in Riverside, Ca., and there was a little dive right next to our house called the 'Green Door'..we thought it was written for this little bar..we would walk by it and look into the peephole in the door.
What a wonderful video, hwaj5300! This is the exact version of the song that I remember my mother having. I've been looking for it, remembering particular nuances in this particular rendition. Thanks for sharing your vision of this great song in a video!
Fu*ck all that, I used to listen to this as I got my ass whipped after a crazy Friday night ("one more night with out sleepin as I thought about the irony while I got my ass whipped") in 1972 Morris Illinois while my parents listened to this song on the radio as .... well you know what I mean. Christ that hurt inside and out.
Heavens to Murgatroid! What an utterly delightful monatge! And I've ALWAYS loved this classic novelty number from the 1950's. It's such a FUN song! And love that boogie woogie piano! Strictly from coolsville, daddy-o! KUDOS! THANKS for sharing it with us! You've MADE my day & my weekend! :)
'Unique' as this song is, in many respects, it has pretty much the same theme as 'Hernando's Hideaway', which was a very big hit, just a few years earlier. Both songs were very clever--and well done, IMO.
I guess I should have clarified, when I said using your imagination, it was directed to things nowadays. Back then, you would have never thought firsthand about all the bad stuff now although yeah, there was some but not at all to the level it has reached now!
Great song, one you can really use your imagination to--drugs, sex, et al. Remember it well. Also, one of the first Dot records with the new label, that is, the yellow "D", the red "o", and the blue "t". Great video too, hwaj5300.
Thanks sometime it seems "you bite off more than you can chew" in making a video the effects I wanted to achieve here had soon changed as i got into the song. If you noticed it went from letter to letter to word to word. Oh well don't want to ramble on.
Behind The Green Door is your subconscious mind, where your real self is. This is where all your secrets are. Be aware that all your thoughts and actions are behind the green door before you think or act. This will prevent future problems to solve in your life.
I got my first clock radio in Sept of 1956. It was a birthday present from my folks and the first song that I ever awoke to on it was "Green Door." The song was brand new and this was the first time I had ever heard it. Loved the song and the era. Hearing it again brought back a lot of memories. Great job hwaj5300! Sounds and looks 100% in my book.
Heck, I'd heard of the Marilyn Chambers infamous X-rated "Behind The Green Door" before I found out about this rockin' tune. Later found out it was a #1 pop chart hit in 1956 for Lowe, who later spent many years as a DJ on WNEW. Very nicely done!
Thank you for a great memory

Jim Lowe was a disc jockey at WNBC Radio in New York City when he recorded this. :) He did voiceover for radio spots on the side.

Yeah but back in these days the world was more innocent or maybe just because I was only a young Teenager at the time
Maybe a sheltered life but dont remember drugs from back then although I am sure it went on

did you notice the back up singers had just as much input into the record as Jim Lowe had?
Dot was an interesting record company....the follow-up recordings of their artists just didn't have the original punch as the first hit.
